    I greatly appreciate how you are a master and admit that even you have limitations. Very encouraging because we get obsessed with perfection and not being able to reach that really high note and may get discouraged as we max out lower than we'd like. But that's okay! Working within our range would be more satisfying when we forget about being "perfect".

  • @dianeshepherdlyricsoprano1394

    Dear Victoria, this is one amazing video. I do work on those points you gave us, but you emphasise their importance so well, that it makes me want to work even harder. As a soprano myself, I am always drawn to titles that have the words "high notes" in them, or something to that effect. I do sirens, I work on my middle voice, even the lower notes although they are my weakest. Doing those sirens with you was wonderful, I felt as if I were reaching to the dizzy heights! I know the importance of the middle voice. I did read (and hear) in the past that in order to reach those lovely high notes, that it's necessary to work on the lower ones too, which I always took notice of and DID work on them. I do know someone who sings VERY high (never any middle voice notes), but is off key a lot of the time, with very little control. I know immediately if I am in the wrong key, or I sang what I call a "bum note", and I am sure you know just what I mean. You know Victoria, we just have to know when things are right, and everything is in place don't we? Sometimes I will sing only ONE song in an afternoon (one I am wanting to record) and even then I may not be satisfied. But I also think that sometimes it can get monotonous doing that, and I can lose the drift if you get my meaning. I was interested in what you said about the note F6 because I can reach it in practice, but singing it in a song - huh! totally different!
    Sorry this is a long comment Victoria - I can easily get carried away when I talk about singing! A big THUMBS UP to you once more.

    Thanks! That bending over at the waist thing - loads of metal singers do it, I assumed it was just stage posing but it really helps squeeze the air out! I think also it is really about quality of notes rather than absolute pitch - often a really peircing tone with strong vibrato can create the illusion of being a much higher note.

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  Před 2 lety +2

      That is a super interesting reply, to something I've been trying to work out too long.
      Assuming the basics in place/can be fixed, is this 'peircing' metal tone all about perfecting high head resonance and sharp placement, with chainsaw vibrato on top ? less nasal?

    Hi Victoria, could you do more videos on vocal tension? I’ve been taking classes with a professional for a year, and even though we’ve made progress, the tension is a huge challenge for me, tongue, throat, laringe, mouth. It’s there especially as I approach high notes and my passage and it’s frustrating!

    Just found you. Gosh you're lovely. I set myself the F6 Holle Rache challenge and have failed. Have got over myself and stopped squeezing at the top. The vocal folds can be trained BUT much is genetic (you need naturally shorter folds to get the CT stretch - end of). Rejecting that which we are given is a crime; love your voice and treat it with compassion. Otherwise you have a future of strain and potentially polyps and nodules ahead. Thank you for your wisdom and candid sharing.

    Thank you! I’m probably going to try to focus more on my lower and middle registers for now. I think the fact that my head voice somehow has more power than my chest voice is probably a sign that I should focus on my chest voice more. My chest voice can barely go up to a C4 which I’m pretty sure even basses are supposed to be able to go higher. Which is sad cause I’m almost definitely not a bass, probably in more of a tenor or baritone range.

    Victoria,
    I am so grateful for your videos. My voice coach passed away, and I have not found a new one yet. I want to know why it is that my high notes sound beautiful when I sing them classically. And when I try and belt them for a pop style they sound thin. I know that the thicker part of our vocal cords are used for belting, and that we have to stretch them thin for high notes. But why would the difference Result from style change? Please advise.

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  Před 7 měsíci

      It all depends on how high you are singing. We can only take the chest blend so high and then we need to transition to head blend. However, head blend can still sound robust and boomy with good vocal fold closure and resonance. I suggest strengthening your mix at the transition first.

      It is impossible to know from a written description, plus your voice is still developing. Don't push the top.

      I don't know. That does not sound right. Rest your voice and if you are concerned, see an ENT doctor.

    Ma'am when I sing High notes, there are two voices like the singing voice and a breathy voice.. When I ask someone why breathy voice is coming from my throat while singing high notes, he said it's due to bump in vocal folds. Also my range is pretty high, I am a soprano.. But is breathy voice Normal or there is something I am doing wrong??

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  Před 3 lety +1

      Breathy voice is common for many singers in the upper register because the coordination is weak. The only way to tell if your vocal folds are healthy would be for you to be examined by an ENT dr. As far as exercises, I would start with simple sirens, starting with middle voice. I demonstrate that a lot in my videos.

    I wish you hadn't equated falsetto and head voice as being the same. They really aren't the same.

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  Před 2 lety +2

      Hmmm…. Where did I say that? I just watched my entire video again and I did not say that anywhere. I said that if men choose to go into falsetto in one of the exercises, it is fine. HOWEVER, there are 2 kinds of falsetto and both ARE head voice, CT dominant. (They certainly are not chest voice of TA dominant). There is breathy falsetto which is weak because the vocal folds do not close, hence the term “breathy falsetto”. There is reinforced falsetto which is stronger because the vocal folds close efficiently. It’s all a matter of terminology. I have trained quite a few professional male falsettists and they sing in reinforced falsetto.

      @@Victoria-Victorious I tend to use a spectogram (spectral analysis tool) to confirm whether I am singing in falsetto or head voice and the presence of overtones gives it away. Falsetto (minimal amount of overtones), Head voice (maximal amount of overtones). What gets me is that no one ever says a woman sings in falsetto, when in fact some do. The voice is pretty much the same between men and women physically with the exceptions being the length of the vocal folds and the bone structures etc. It be like saying a Volkswagen bug is not a car but a Cadillac is. To me that is shear nonsense as both are cars. I guess I am hypersensitive to the word "falsetto". I would agree that falsetto is mainly a form of head voice, with less connection and hence airier sounding. But I have heard a man singing in falsetto in the lower ranges too. Shocked me when I heard it.

      @Victoria-Victorious  Před 2 lety +3

      When I work privately with my students who sing in falsetto, we always work on reinforced falsetto. All of them know the difference between breathy falsetto and reinforced falsetto. If a woman sings in breathy head voice, that is the equivalent of breathy falsetto - breathy head voice, inefficient VF closure, poor resonance, weak. I tell them that. Everything you are saying, I know. It’s always the use of terminology that is confusing.

      @@Victoria-Victorious I just know that I can't sing in falsetto. Been accused of singing in falsetto but then when I whip out the old spectogram I say see not falsetto! LOL
