Hyce needs to start giving kAN a 3 minute head start
Or a train derailment head start.
Maybe Hyce needs to deliberately derail his own train ASAP and reload it before he can start for real.
Give kan a de6 and give hyce the the s282
I think the logical way is to do a tonnage handicap. Start with Hyce having 2x the load.
If you do the handcar race, you should do it in VR mode, because you do have to manually pump it.
You also have to manually on my computer and idk how to change that

The caboose is down in a shed between forst south and the sawmill, the handcar is the only one up near the machine factory.
And the other one is a dead end, for now. Just like the South one was
I was about to suggest 100 tons handicap for Hyce, but after knowing that Hyce had about 80 tons more than kAN, perhaps it should be 250 tons and a lower rated train, so kAN gets that first win on his belt.
I'm getting this eery feeling that there's subconscious discontent within kAN, even though he joins clear-eyed and bushy tailed every session.
Or it could be my fear that kAN will loose his confidence and interest in the race series, because that would be a loss for both channels.
The only other handicap I can think of could level the playing field is identical setups (or as close as possible), run 2 trains each but Hyce can't use MU or train brakes, just the independent and manual brakes.
Yes, adding more tasks to Hyce will both add to the challenge and the entertainment factor on both sides.

Kan was trying to 485 it in DV! Also, cool fact on engineer who applied sand and cracked the wheels.

Yeah, at this point we need to make Hyce use a Handicap. Like, "job is 50% heavier" or "3 minute headstart for kAN".
I feel like we now need a race to see who can make more money in a set amount of time. Either in-game days or by IRL time, whoever makes more money wins: No resets/reloading allowed, so it's a true money amount at the end

Kan is talking about self lapping brakes but the 282 has non-self lapping brakes
You mention at the end a downhill race. A good long downhill would be from Military Base to Harbor down the eastern track that runs above Goods Factory.
Once the Nuclear Bois are updated to the big boom (if it hasn't already) get Kan to mod it in and race from harbor to mil base with em.
Better yet, get a third party to make a save with all of the switches aligned the wrong way, then once a decent load is loaded into the harbor, they share the save to you then you add the save to your save folders so you have the same information? would work pretty well i think. XD
I was never into trains, but grabbed the game last week and really enjoy it. It's really interesting to learn about the technical backgrounds though. I also saw how you decoupled those rolling 'explody boys' to get ahead, make a turn and catch them on the go in another video. So I had a gut feeling how this race would end. Kudos to the other guy for selling it as a 'Hare vs Hedgehog' race though.
The random tender damage seems to be a bug in this version. Some random tender spawns in and rolls or slides a bit. I got it in a fresh career save after about three jobs. Then shortly after I found a tender parked up against a DH4, so someone in the valley is doing a shenanigan.

Only one of the sidings west of Machine Factory has the hand car, the other is just a random dead end. In the first release build of Simulator before the S060 was done, there was a preview of the model parked there. The caboose is down by Sawmill and Forest South.
Add ‘aligning the turn table” to his list of things to remember.
Also I think kAN might win if you guys do a DH4 race or he will blow up the train a lot.

Pretty sure hyce fibbed when he said he's never wrecked or exploded in a race.. it was only an episode or 2 ago! He forgot water and crested a hill and boom! Lol! Love both your guys' content! Can't wait to some day have a pc and hop on these games too! For now, I live it through you guys! 🙌
You need to do ADE2 race going up Hill, but yeah, I do it with heavy loads with cotton VS you.

@@redman7775 Oh I def know that, but even doing it IRL, you have two hands separate from your head, not a single hand attached to the eyeballs (game clicks). And IRL you have multiple people running all these different things, not a single guy with one hand. Mark is crazy good at DVS, and multitasking in general, it seems.

that machine factory bypass is a godsend, ive taken 1800t+ trains outta through there with a single 282. there is 1 20mph i think it is curve you have to look out for along the way or youll eat shit & die but it is a solid route

hey Hyce, i have a race idea (originally i'd penned this in as a "Kenosha Race") who can drive the S-282 (light engine) furthest with an empty sightglass and no fire... i thought of this after your previous s-282 career episode where you had to drive a fair distance with the fire dumped.
This game definitely needs multiplayer. The s282 wheel mod works now. The remote dispatch mod is great to for setting points ahead of time. Plus it's possible to have someone else do that
I wish that both Hyce and Kan can use the multiplayer mod (Even though it's a hassle to set up plus more problems)

all that talk about accelerating in a curve brings up another danger of doing so. if there's enough weight at the back of the train, and not enough in the middle, you can actually "clothesline"(is that the right term?) a train. that is, the tension will suddenly try to snap the train straight, and it can cause the middle cars to be pulled off the rails on the _inside_ of the curve. really interesting
Just to make it fair what about we put Kan in a DE6 and Hyce in A S282?
We propose a race where you both start on opposite ends of the same route.
That's hard to scale difficulty wise even making it unfair lol

Fun fact: Precipitation isn't the only weather that affects your train, the temperature can affect overheating and cooling.

I just had a crazy question about sniffters. You mentioned "drifting throttle" to prevent the cylinders from pulling vacuum from the blast nozzles on engines without sniffters, but couldn't you open the cylinder cocks and vent vacuum that way?

15:30 - oh I totally forgot you once, in another video, asked about brake sets in Europe (or do I misremember?). The way the system is set up here is:
- running pressure: 5.0 bar translating to a brake valve pressure* of 0.0 bar
- full brake (i.e. strongest service brake): 3.5 bar translating to a brake valve pressure* of 3.8 bar
- emergency brake: < 2.8 bar translating to a brake valve pressure* of … still 3.8 bar
So as you can see, any pressure drop beyond the 1.5 bars does *not* result in a stronger brake application. What it does, though, is increase the propagation speed and, on vehicles which have those (i.e. passenger cars), activate additional brakes (usually magnetic rail brakes) (at < 2.8 bar).
The question is, of course, whether DV accurately models this (probably they do, given the attention to detail they gave the steam simulation) or if they have a linear brake force increase over the whole brake pipe pressure range.
* brake valve pressure: The standard brake valves we use over here, which mostly are Knorr KE and Oerlikon O or varieties thereof, translate the brake pipe pressure drop to a pressure called Cv (basically pre-cylinder pressure). Whether that's directly put into the brake cylinder or transformed further down the line depends on the exact brake system, the brake setting and so on. But that's of no relevance for the question at hands.
Also: Could you ask kaN next time he says roundtable, if the building around it is called a turnhouse? xD

The DE6 is rated for a couple hundred more tons than the S282, but its close enough that handicap probably wouldnt give kan too much of an advantage still lol

I think there's only one answer if you use the word "afraid". That yard is also so small, I doubt there's any worry to run out of anything but track.
