    I also dropped my Google Wifi for ubiquity. I did some hours of research and best I could find is that Google pushed a bad release and will not openly admit to the issues that were introduced. I had exactly the same issues you have. Glad to know I wasn't alone.

    Nice job! As much as I understand the hype going for the Unify system, they are overpriced for home use. For home/soho, you can do the same with the Omada system. I also have had a similar patch panel for over 2 years, no issues at all. It is nicer since I don't have to waste the bunch of rj45 cables I already have to get all cables the same colors. I just replace the color on the patch panel.l/the connector plug. Just fruit for thought.

    I'd like to see how you connect the UDM to Home Assistant and use it for sensors and automation.

    I am so very sorry to hear that you are now using the Ubiquity Unifi line of products.
    A rough list of your impending purchases -
    Unifi NVR
    Unifi Patch Panel
    Unifi Security Cameras
    Unifi Doorbell
    Unifi POE Switch (with Etherlighting)
    It’s okay. Just let it happen.

    Congrats on the upgrades Aaron! I can 100% recommend the UniFi 24 port PoE switch (USW-24-POE). Get it!!!
    I went with 2 of the U6 Lite APs and my coverage has been great (2k/sf house). Viewing the UniFi console is kinda addictive as far as seeing the topology and data provided. I havent added the UniFi integration to HA yet but plan to this weekend. Thanks for sharing everything and you should definitely create a basic UniFi setup and configuration video! Take care and thank you again for all your help with HA! 👍

    Cat5e is plenty for 2.5 GbE especially on such short runs so you should be good to go. Love your videos!

      @@makeitworktech I went with dream machine pro, a 24 PoE switch & 2 access points. Haven’t decided which rack yet and may upgrade from Reolink to unifi cameras

  • @JohnMcclaned

    Tbh, ditch the ups. The chances of it igniting and burning your house down while you aren't home are higher than anything you would lose if your home network goes down twice a year for a few minutes

    I would caution against a rack mount NAS. They can be super noisy.

  • @praveenpg

    For the short distances of the patch cables, there is no difference between a CAT5 and CAT6 cable. In fact there should be no difference for lengths up to 20 - 30 feet. There was no need to spend money on changing.

    Did you use a flat network topology, or use different networks to isolate systems eg cameras etc?

    • @makeitworktech
      @makeitworktech  Před měsícem

      Right now it's flat, but I plan to separate things out in the futuree

  • @LucaBertiLB
    @LucaBertiLB Před měsícem

    There is no real way to do it right, but the patch panel is standard, provided there you attache the cables directly to It.

    • @makeitworktech
      @makeitworktech  Před měsícem

      That's the best part about these things - you do it whatever way you like best!

    Great video Aaron!
    Thank you!
    Can your UPS handle a device requiring 125v? My modem’s Optical Network Terminal (ONT) requires 120-125v outlet.
    When you were all said and done, how many watts were you pulling with everything in your rack plus your workstation with all your peripherals? I actually want to set up a UPS that can handle all of the above (plus a second work station) for at least 4-6 hours.
    My wife and I work from home and when the power goes out, it can be out for a long time, sometimes 24 hours.

    Oh brother, you do like to spend money. So do I.
    Pro Max 24 PoE Switch with etherlighting and U7 Pro AP Max. I tossed in the etherlight cables, a patch panel,
    I ponder how long before you fall into the NVR pool? LoL Welcome to the ecosystem...it's not perfect but it's cool and getting better! Male sure to learn about Link Aggregation if you start spending too much.

      My wife while paying our bills looks at credit card statement... "Aaron, what is 'ui.com'? "
      *me trying to figure out how to explain this^ hahaha
      The etherlighting looks AWESOME!
      ok, i'll look into link aggregation, thanks for the tip
