- WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT. Slovakia’s populist Prime Minister Robert Fico is in life-threatening condition after being wounded in a shooting after a political event Wednesday afternoon, according to his Facebook profile.
Reports on TA3, a Slovakian TV station, said Fico, 59, was hit in the stomach after four shots were fired outside the House of Culture in the town of Handlova, some 93 miles northeast of the capital, where the leader was meeting with supporters. A suspect has been detained, it said.
A message posted to Fico’s Facebook account said the leader “has been shot multiple times and is currently in life-threatening condition. At this moment he is transported by helicopter to Banská Bystrica, because it would take too long to get to Bratislava due to the necessity of an acute procedure. The next few hours will decide.”
The shooting in Slovakia comes three weeks ahead of crucial European Parliament elections, in which populist and hard-right parties in the 27-nation bloc appear poised to make gains.
Deputy speaker of parliament Lubos Blaha confirmed the incident during a session of Slovakia’s Parliament and adjourned it until further notice, the Slovak TASR news agency said.

Its more likely that the divisions Fico created in Slovakian society with his brand of far right popularism led to an increase risk of violence in that country was responsible for what happened today. But his support for Putin could have been a factor too because many Slovakians see him as a traitor ( and probably rightly so ). That was carried out by a Bosnian Serb National in Austria who blamed Serbia for the attack and began plotting revenge attacks against the country which led to a series of events escalated into World War 1. This is probably an internal attack that is the result of the internal divisions created with Slovakia by the popularist politics of Robert Fico.

Also they don’t have them in Slovakia anymore, just like they aren’t Moravia or any of those kingdoms of the past. Slavic countries all had their Royalty system way back Pre-Communism but afterwards most banned such royal families .

I dont want to make excuses for his security, however you just have to take into account that Slovakia is super small and quite safe country and the incident happened in a tiny town that you could compare to a big village in some other countries and that no such incident happened before in Slovakia and believe me we have had many many hated politicians throghout our history so probably security just did not expect something like that would take place.
