Some of the coolest camera work I have seen on woodworking DIY. Nicely done
It amazes me just how efficient you are and your shop is. I envy this.
Really appreciate it, thanks for watching! It has taken a lot of tweaking to get my shop to where it is now, but I am really happy with it.
Shaun, this is work of art ! Absolutely beautiful, love it 👌.Thank you
Thank you, Mahendra! Really appreciate that.
I've been admiring this stool on instagram for a while now, so it's great to see the video on how you made this.
Thanks Ian, that is pretty cool. Glad you liked it!
Another beautiful design Shaun! I liked the way the video flowed - I felt like I went on a journey with the wood.
Thanks, man! Thought I would try something new, and it was fun to make.
A set of those stools would look amazing at my bar. Very cool design. I like the small angles and the sliding dovetail. All the tiny details really make it pop.
Right on, really appreciate it! It's all about the details.
Ca fait 10 fois que je regarde cette vidéo et je trouve ce tabouret toujours aussi magnifique,
simple, pur.
For a modern piece it looks pretty comfortable. Keep up the good work!!
I know, seems counterintuitive. Thanks for watching!
That is a very unique stool! I especially like the dovetail
Thanks, Isaac. Really appreciate it!
Great job on the stool and the video! My favorite edit is definitely the whip stitch at 8:01.
Thanks, really appreciate it! I tried to get creative with some of the cuts, good catch!
Beautiful design, looks like a fantastic bar stool to sit on. Cinematography was great. Really enjoyed this build.
Thank you! Really appreciate it! It was a fun one to build and film.
Quality of the video is absolutly amazing!
Thanks for work, mate!
Thanks, man! Really appreciate that.
This continuous shot is AWESOME!
Thanks! That was a fun one to film and edit!
Mate......love this. Furniture meets art. Fantastic
Really appreciate that! Thanks for watching!
Awesome design... real craftmanship. Seeing all the work that went into it, I'd expect you'd break the bar stool on my head if I asked for 11 more :D
Incredibly beautiful work well done
Very good your work, congratulations!I am Brazilian and I'm beginning carpentry as a hobby and I've always liked daring things, and yours are, keep doing videos!I'm your student! hahaha
Thank you, Diego! Good luck with your new carpentry hobby!
Thank you!
Great video and beautiful design. I’m interested in hearing how well the dovetails stand up over time to wear and racking. I couldn’t help thinking this design could be adapted to a couch side table where the bottom supports could slide under the couch bringing the table closer to the user. Keep up the nice work.
Thank you! I have a couple of them that get almost daily use, and I haven't had any issues with them. And yes, I have had quite a few people ask if it could be used as a side table, much like you are describing. Definitely makes sense!
Just came across your channel. Some things you do seem to bee eyeballed yet it all turns out very precise. I admire your design ass well, but above all im impressed by your efficiency. Maybe its the magic off editing, which is also great but still you look very organised and fast in shop. Thanks for sharing. All best
Really appreciate that! Editing definitely helps make me look fast, but I like to keep my shop organized, which really does increase my efficiency. Thanks for watching!
Amazing work! Looks fantastic
Thank you, really appreciate it!
Beautiful project, great video, can’t wait to see more. And congrats on the shout out on the Modern maker podcast, I was stoked to know I was a subscriber before hearing that 😂!
Haha right on! Thanks for being there from the start. It was pretty cool to hear my name on their podcast.
Great design. Great video.
Thanks, really appreciate it!
Wow!!!! loved the video, this is an awesome looking design. A few of these stools would look great in our house. If my prioritized honey-do list wasn’t so long I would attempt to recreate your masterpiece.
Really liked the edits to this video.
Thanks! It was fun to make.
Excellent piece of work.
Thank you!
Love your work, you might be my new favorite woodworker.
Dang, really appreciate that! Thanks for watching!

Thanks a lot, appreciate it!
Nice transition 5.22 . Great work as always.
Thanks, man!
New sub. Its your gig, so do what you like, but I'll make a suggestion. I like the timelapse aspect and the music and what you are making. I think some explanation of key elements fit into the timelapse would be as entertaining and would help make it instructional as well. Perhaps broaden your viewer base by doing so, as there is nothing to learn really from this. Even as an experienced woodworker it would be interesting to hear why you did certain things.
Thanks for watching, and thanks for the thoughtful comment. I thing you are right, and I have definitely considered adding some explanation. Maybe I will give it a shot in an upcoming video.
Watch Primative Technology as a possible example of a solution, he does silent videos but adds a few sentences of narrative with captions which can be switched on or off. I personally prefer the no talking.
Using the captions is a really good idea. Thanks for the tip.
I humbly disagree. AS a new woodworker, i'd like to hear the voice of the artist as they explain.
I personally disagree. As a professional woodworker if I was to do a video I would not be focused on explaining my work. It isn’t my interest to teach anyone, but to show the process and end result. There is a lot of information to be gleaned to those who have their eyes and minds open to what they are observing. It is not the job of the creator to give away all aspects of hard earned knowledge.
I guess what I am saying is, when doing this professionally you must also be aware of everyone else out there trying to knock off your hard work and investment in IP. Some people will absolutely take an idea and run with it. You’re not doing yourself, the originator, any favors by explaining in depth how it is done. Unless, your model is more like the wood whisperer where you don’t actually make a living from woodwork, but earn a living from selling articles, magazines, instructional videos, and advertisement space.
I like these videos more as production videos that illustrate the hand made/bespoke process and end product.
As a new wood worker, I understand your position of wanting explanations. I was there once too. So I gleaned as much as I could about techniques from every source I could, apprenticed in custom cabinetry shops for 7 years and also worked on my own projects to push myself to learn how to build and design. And read, read, read + contemplate and test via project builds. Establishing personal relationships with other woodworking professionals is also key.
Should the guys who put themselves through the rigors of earning their knowledge be expected to hand over their experience to everyone and anyone because they made a CZcams video documenting a build?
I say no.
Cool stool! I liked the video, especially how you're transitioning the shots while filming.
Thanks, man! It was fun to try something a little different with the video.
Excelente , eres de mis favoritos, una gran inspiración para el diseño , felicidades!!!!
Muchas gracias! Me alegra que lo hayas disfrutado.
Love the piece - great work.
Thank you!
Well done 👍🏼
Thank you!
Great video
Thank you!
Great stuff!
Thank you!
Great video, thanks Shaun.
Thanks for watching!
Nice!
Hi Shaun, this is truely the best bar stool I have seen. I really like it. Would you share a plan that I could try to rebuild it? Best, Peter
its so cool bro...
Wow!
Fantastic looking barstool. The waving of the camera like a sausage at a BBQ makes it a challenge to watch though. Keep on building.
Thanks for watching!
It is a beautiful bar stool.
Thank you!
That wascamaxing! But it would require a lot of special tools an physics skill to make it right. The geometry would need to be just right to balance the weight for the chair to be sound. It was really amazing.
Thanks, really appreciate it! It definitely took some figuring to get it right.
Just to let you know that I subscrived because I really like your videos. And that is because you don´t jump and scream around like a moron, you don't spend my & your time filming your dogs, cats and chickens or talking for more then half the video, you just work...and your work is really great!! Keep it coming. Cheers
Thank you, really appreciate that! I can't guarantee my dogs won't make an appearance every once in awhile, but I can guarantee there will always be more furniture making than dogs.
Very beautiful.
Really appreciate it, thanks!
Very very nice job 👍🏻
Thank you!
Halfway in the video i was like, ...wait, is that Shaun? Didn't realize I was watching your content 😅
Haha! Thanks for watching!
Stirling job, sir.
Thank you!
Hey sir. Just curious. What is the size of your shop. It seems like you're doing awesome work in a very small space. Love the channel.
Thanks! That was a fairly small shop, I think it was around 15'x30'
Very nice...liked the way u shot the video too ..good stuff
Really appreciate it! It was fun to try something a little different with the video.
Shaun Boyd Yes totally agree that's what I'm going to try and do with my channel this year things differently at least try to lol
Very nice build very cool design.
I wonder how is the durability wouldn’t it breaks over time?!
Thank you! I haven't had a problem with one yet, and they get daily use.
Hi Shaun have you built a high table to go with these wonderful stools? And as regard to the silent videos I love the quite approach especially for helping get my new born baby to sleep. We both seem to like em.
I haven't built a table for these, but I definitely have been wanting to for a long time. Might have to make that happen soon! Glad you and your kid enjoy my videos, thanks for watching!
This this this! It probably took forever to edit (did it?), but the transitions and pacing made for an eminently watchable video. Gorgeous work and a great eye for both still and moving pictures. ;)
Really appreciate the kind words! Editing takes some time, but I enjoy it. The hard part for this one was filming it all to flow together. It was a fun challenge, though.
Two questions: 1) what do you design your stuff ahead of time in? (assuming you do) 2) Did you map out all of the transitions in this ahead of time as well?
Most of the time just pencil and paper, then do a full-size version on a piece of MDF, and make templates from that. I have dabbled with Sketch-up, but should probably start learning to use it more. With the video, I tried to think a few shots ahead as I was filming, but couldn't really plan too much. Too many things can change along the way, so I tried to just figure it out on the fly.
Awesome. Well you're fast becoming my favorite CZcams maker. Looking forward to the next project.
Здравствуйте.Очень нравится ваш стиль.Скажите,пожалуйста,в какой программе вы рисуете?Hi.I like your style very much. Please tell me what program you use, design, your masterpieces.Thanks.
Thank you! I designed this with paper and pencil, but lately I have been using Fusion 360 to design some of my newer pieces.
Спасибо! Я разработал это с бумагой и карандашом, но в последнее время я использовал Fusion 360 для разработки некоторых из моих новых произведений.
Good job
Thanks!
It's a work of art, I really love it. I like the legs that remained light in colour, what was the wood finish that you used?
Thank you, really appreciate it! I used Danish Oil to finish this one.
Bravo .. Ottimo lavoro e bel Design . Buon ANNO 2018 .
Happy New Year! Grazie!
Nice Work
Thanks!
great build man ! enjoyed the video I dabble in woodworking mainly just building tables and things for family and myself. quick question though what kind of biscuit jointer do you use in this video ? I feel it could help me out some in the shop. thanks
Thanks! Glad you liked it! I use a Festool Domino and it is probably the single best investment I have made for my business. The speed and accuracy it provides are invaluable.
Very nice and modern. How much weight it can support? It doesn't look weak but I'd like to know. Thanks.
Really appreciate it! I'm not sure what the maximum weight limit is, as I haven't had one break. I use one of them almost daily and have had all sorts of people sit on it. I'll report back if it ever fails on me!
Wow, super you are very talented
Thank you! Really appreciate it.
Beautiful!! I would extend the curves in the two legs from top to bottom in the inside, that would be a nice thing to do. But that is a great work congratulation!!
Really amazing work and design. I love it .. and can u tell which wood it is?
Thanks! It is Hard Maple and Walnut.
Very impressive, loved the design and would love to try it. Can you tell me what was the degree of your miter cuts?
Really appreciate it, thanks for watching! The angle for the legs is 15 degrees from vertical. Or if you are referring to the bevel cut on the top of the legs, that is 30 degrees.
It’s a beaut!
Thanks!
very nice
Thank you!
Hey! cool chairs, I really liked it, I think they will be the most for my summer country home bar. I can ask you to throw off the scheme with dimensions, I would gladly make such for myself.
Thanks! www.shaunboydmadethis.com/plans/bar-stool
I missed where you chamfered the top edge of the arms holding the seat- how did you manage that?
You can see it starting around 8:55.
Sharp👌
Amazing
Thanks!
Hi buddy, very nice work! What type of wood it is? Thank you!
Thanks a lot, really appreciate it! The seat is Walnut and the legs are Hard Maple.
funky wood ...
Funky is good 👍
French dove tails make any woodwork piece better.
Nice work on the stool, and the video.
Thank you, really appreciate it!
Badass
Thanks!
Super cool. What’s color danish oil did you use? Man, is your jointers and planer one unit? What’s brand is it?
Thanks, really appreciate it! That is just the natural Danish Oil. And yeah, the planer and jointer are one unit. It is an old Makita 2030, pretty awesome little machine.
amazing!!!!!
Thank you!
Hello Shaun
I just discovered your channel.
Great work!
I see you have a 2030 joiner-planer
I see you have a dust extraction system installed.
Is it your fabrication or did you buy it?
Do you have any photos/video/etc. of its fabrication?
I have the same joiner-planer w/o the extraction system.
Thanks
Hi Jose, thanks for your comment. The dust collection is all plumbed to my main dust collector. I have videos of making and plumbing that system. As for the dust collection specific to the planer and jointer, it is pretty simple. The dust hood on the planer came with the machine when I got it, I just installed the proper adapter to attach it to the 4" hose. For the jointer I just clamp a 4" hose below below and it does a decent job getting most of the chips. I want to eventually build a proper enclosure under the jointer to really seal it up. Hope that helps.
Thanks. I'll check w Makita to see if they still distribute the dust hood for the planer. I got mine used and so it did not include the hood.
By the way, check: lumberjocks.com/topics/241001
That's awesome. It is always good to see old machines being restored instead of thrown away.
Ottimo e perfetto come sempre. .. happy new year 2018 👍👍👍
Grazie! Happy New Year!
Good job 👍
Cool vidéo 👌
Thank you 👍
not bad!👍
I'll take it! Thanks!
Great job!! Looks wonderfull!! Do you sell plans?
Thanks, really appreciate it! I don't currently sell plans just because I have no idea how to make them. I'm hoping to eventually figure it out and start offering them.
I will be waiting for them!!!! Congrats!!!
Good style..
Thank you!
So cool😎
Thanks!
how long did it take you to complete the whole project? very cool!
Thanks for watching! I made this in about two days.
Hi Shaun! I have a question about dominoes. Is for works such as yours to buy dominoes with all the entrances or bare. I see that you are not using them much. Thanks to look up for the answer. Regards Cristopher
I'm not exactly sure what you are asking, but I mostly use the dominos made by Festool. If I run out, and need some more, then I will make my own. Hope that helps!
@@shaunboydmadethis
do you have starters for dominoes. Is it profitable to buy the same dominoes?
Sry for my English
@@krzysiekgrabowiec9920 I just make them from whatever scrap I have laying around. Buying them saves a lot of time, though.
Шикарный стул
Спасибо!
you won a new subscriber, I could not stop watching all your videos, hahaha, I ask you a question with which team do you film? and where do you get the music for the videos? I would like tomorrow to be able to make videos like yours
Thanks, I really appreciate it! I film and edit everything myself with a gopro and a Canon 7D, and I get all the music from the royalty-free CZcams music library. Good luck!
