Dragon Ball was localized and aired on Cartoon Network, which is owned by Warner Bros. If you never watched that channel in 2000 to 2004(?), that is why.
Dragon Ball Kai, which is Dragon Ball Z remastered for HD done for the upcoming Dragon Ball Super, first aired on Nicktoon, which is Nickelodeon. You don't need me to stress how ridiculous Nickelodeon is with babying up their cartoons, so naturally a cartoon as violent as Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z would be censored way more than it'd be on Cartoon Network, which is exactly what happened and exactly what fans of the first Funimation dub failed to understand, believing that Kai is normally that heavily censored.
Dragon Ball Kai would get its last aired on Cartoon Network again, but this time during the late night Adult Swim program several years ago, before airing Dragon Ball Super roughly a year or 2 behind the original Japanese showing.
If you want to watch the English dub, then please for the love of everyone do not watch the first funimation dub of Dragon Ball Z. It is filled with obvious inconsistencies, censorships, kiddying up to the point it's embarrassing to even talk about and even Funimation would like to not do again. Granted because of the backlash in their attempts to be closer to the source, they're like "fuck it" they'll do a little of both. And I mean inconsistencies, you might think you're watching a 4Kid's dubbed anime. It paints a very different picture and may damage your experience when you get to Super, the first series, or Kai when you learn the truth about how things are. Like how Goku is clearly not a superhero.
yes time travel exists here . and most of the part of this franchises story we see now wouldn't be there . if some particular person didn't travelled back in time

I would recommend watching the actual anime starting with Dragonball, from when Goku is a kid. Then watch Dragonball Z. And after that you can take a break and watch the fan parody Dragonball Z Abridged (ridiculously funny) before moving on to the rest of the different series.
You also missed a controversial English dub version of the Dragonball Z opening called "Rock the Dragon" which is more epic than all of the Japanese openings.
Another anime with epic music is "So I'm a Spider, So What?" On Crunchyroll. It's the most metal anime in recent times. It's about a girl (and her class) that are reincarnated into a fantasy world, but she is reincarnated as a spider monster. Please make sure to watch both the opening and closings (there are 2 of each). The first closing has the fastest metal rapping I have ever experienced.

I know it looks out dated by today's standards but you should really watch classic Dragon Ball before you start DBZ because otherwise you won't understand anything, Dragonball Super Heros and DBGT are not canon so can safely be left out and Kai is just DBZ without Filler and a bit better graphics. That's why you should first watch DB classic, then DBZ or Kai and then Super
