Hey Aaron, great video! I will be starting CS at Bath this October and just wanted to know, does the course at any point teach you how to build slightly more professional level projects and implement certain libraries/technologies or does it just focus on teaching you the concepts of programming and leave you to learn how to build things on your own from Year 1?
The focus is on the concepts of programming, however, in the software engineering style modules, you usually get to build websites / apps and be able to pick your languages. For example, in one of my group modules we used React Native and Firebase to build the application; but this is something we had to learn ourselves and not explicitly taught.
Any clue how may cs students there are in total and how competitive is entrance? I am considering Bath between duhram for my 5th choice. Thanks
I think the cohort size (each year) is around 150. Not really sure about the competitiveness. You could check the website for a more in-depth look into the requirements but they tend to be flexible depending on what a levels you do.
Can you take any optional modules from other departments like business /economics during any of the years ?
Currently (for CS), all modules in year 1 and 2 are compulsory and there are no optional modules. In year 3, you will be able to select your modules and you can select modules from other departments, however, there are specific requirements for selecting modules outside your degree and you are limited to a certain number.
I may start CS in Bath next year. I have a lot of programming experience and I am worried that the course will start too slow.
For context:
Programming has been my main hobby for the last 3 years.
I have over a thousand hours of programming experience, mainly in Java for back-end app development, but also a lot of Python and some experience in C#, Javascript, etc.
I have developed several professional-grade apps, games and websites.
I have a firm understanding of databases with SQL, OOP, and client-server programming, some experience in ML such as linear regression and Bayesian methods.
What can I do to stay ahead?
With 1000+ hours of coding experience you won't need to worry about being ahead 🤣. If you want to get even more ahead, maybe try some ML projects using deep learning.
@@AaronKher Thanks. I'll definitely add this to my summer backlog.
First :))
How though… that was like 30 seconds after I published.

Does bath not being a russell group university matter at all?
When I was doing my A levels, I thought that it mattered until I did further research and then formed my opinion that it doesn't matter. One could say that I am biased but I received an offer from Exeter (Russell group) but chose Bath because I didn't go to an Exeter open day, so didn't know what the campus was like... I know very lazy 😆.
This is good timing I start at bath doing cs in 2 weeks and I know nothing about cs and I’ve never studied it before 💀
haha same, didn’t study it at A level either. Good luck at Bath and CS!
Which other universities did you applied ?
I applied to Exeter, Surrey, Bath... and I forgot the other two...
@@AaronKher Thanks
Set theory 😍
So now that you’re doing a Masters you’re on their side now?
yoo am I the only one who's gonna study CS without 2 monitors and a mechanical keyboard 🤣
This is despicable behaviour
I can attest that this man is an imposter - he went to Bath Spa.
I've been made...
