I love seeing new generations getting blown away by the force of nature that was Terry Kath!!
That's the Great Terry Kath. R.I.P Jimi Hendrix called Terry Kath the "Best Guitarist in the Universe."
Terry Kath is certainly in my personal list of Top 5 favorite guitarists.
@@BayouMaccabee Me too
"Dialogue" by Chicago is amazing and deep.
South California Purples should be next another rarely exposed DEEP CUT
And Listen
@@brianblackwell7341 An Hour In the Shower should be entertaining also.
This (and I'm a Man) are from the debut album. A tour de force. Two other "album" tracks you might listen to are "Introduction" which serves to introduce the sounds you will hear on the rest of the double album. Then, if you feel like an extensive guitar jam, put on "Liberation".
The to hear what got played on the radio, take in "Does Anyone Know What Time It Is".
Yes to both but especially Introduction!
The guitar player was Terry Kath (1946 - 1978). He was truly an amazing guitar player and his death was tragic. He accidently shot himself in the head with what he truly believed was an unloaded gun. I have always said that the most dangerous weapon in the world is "the unloaded gun" but that's another discussion altogether, right? You might enjoy "Free Form Guitar" from the same "CTA" record. "Free Form Guitar" is just Terry with his Fender Stratocaster plugged directly into a Marshall stack and he goes wild. Again, one of the most under appreciated guitarists in all of rock & roll.
Just one guitar there, the legendary Terry Alan Kath (r.i.p.) also on backup vocal. Peter Cetera on bass & backup vocal, Danny Seraphine on drums, Robert Lamm on keyboards & lead vocal. James Pankow on trombone, Lee Loughnane on trumpet, Walter Parazaider on sax. Seven dudes with insane talent.
Now you know why when Jimi Hendrix saw them at the Whisky A Go-Go he told Walt, "You've got a horn section that sounds like one set of lungs, and a guitar player that's better than me. Wanna go out on tour together?". THAT is definitely the song to hear to experience the origins of Chicago. On the same album is "Introduction, written by and sung by Terry Kath, the first track of the album. Each performer gets a chance to shine individually on that track, fittingly introducing the world to Chicago.
Thanks for the great reaction video to this track.
Terry Kath. Hendrix's fave guitarist!
Chicago, like the Doobie Brothers,....earlier is better!
Chicago was undervalued
This is from their first album. Love to see you do "Introduction" Side 1, song 1, album 1. Great introduction to Chicago.
Love your reactions man to some great ass music
love it when i see a young person hear what true musicians sound like, and they "get it"
You might also like South California Purples from the same album
I've requested Poem 58 from many reaction folks but you and Scribecash are the only ones I know that have reacted to it. More bop from that same album: South California Purples, Listen, Introduction, and Liberation.
SincerelyKSO also reacted to it and she had to pause when the song was over to catch her breath.
Reminder, Terry Kath was Jimmy Hendrix favorite guitarist.
I feel ya Jay Rah!! That was cold!! One great jam session! Terry Kath abusing that guitar!🎸🔥 When you get the time you should check out Chicago tunes "Dialogue" (1&2) "Question 67 & 68, "Make Me Smile" lead singer/bass player Peter Cetera and lead guitar/lead singerTerry Kath have phenomenal voices.🎙 They called Terry Kath the white Ray Charles! Like your analogies of the tunes!🤔 Peace brother!
I think it's a very different group after Terry....
Yup. They became a sappy band after he died.
Question 67 and 68 is awesome
That's the geniousness of Terry Kath & his guitar! There was & still has not been any other like him! He actuality wrote a lot of their music even though he couldn't actually write or read a note! He was entirely self taught! And very much missed...gone too soon & much too young! RIP Terry
I know you have heard the studio version of 25 to 6 to 4. You should check out the live video of that song. Then you can see the great Terry Kath in action.
No doubt! He was very vicious on the axe!🎸 Just amazing playing!
Tanglewood 1970....unreal guitar solo.
Check out Chicago's "Dialog parts 1 and 2"!
Terry Kath did all the guitar parts and he could do them live plus he is singing lead on this jam. He was Jimy Hendrick's favorite guitarist.
And these were bunch of kids in their early 20's..Half a century ago.
Great song...love Terry...Peter Cetera never gets recognition for his superb bass play. Excellent album.
They were the complete band
I love you used the word saturation!!! For the full head, both ears, of music!!!
I mean I think I'm hearing this first time in a long tiiiime.. you put da stank face on when the song changed. It blew me away too!!! Oh my Gawd that guitar!!!
Terry was an absolute beast.
Love you! Awesome song!!!!
I'd like you to do Saturday In The Park, and Does Anybody Really know What Time It Is?
A good one!👍🏻☮️✌🏻🎸An even better one is Questions 67 and 68 and another good one is Fancy Colours!
Terry does things with his guitars that other musicians don’t know how he does he what he does with his guitars when he plays
That piece of feedback at 10:09 might be the Greatest Note Ever Played. Kath was untouchable.
Feedback......or sustain? Whatever, it's genius.
This is great music. It have a live feel to it and I'm guessing it was done all in one take. I have seen these guys live a few times and though they only have 3 original members left they still put on a great show. I might go see them in May if it doesn't get cancelled because of the "sweet and sour sniffles".
Terry Kath (the guitarist) was an unlikely guitar hero in the day, but that whole band was so damn good. Nice.
I laughed at 11:08 when you sank down in your chair and just said "stop.."
Great reaction Jay. Terry Kath, Terry Kath, Terry Kath, one of the GOATS. You should really react to Introduction, the first song on side 1 from this masterpiece. 🔥
Jamming is on spot . They could’ve played this jam for an hour . Tremendous musicians… groups like allman brothers, dead , Santana, could adlib and make magic
Kath, so underrated is his day but it seems like people are noticing him more. There's a really good doc on him I'd highly recommend called The Terry Kath Experience! You could even review it ;) Also, thank you for giving consistently thoughtful reviews! Beyond saying something is Lit ! Haha. I'm a grumpy old man :)
Loooooove it!! It doesn get any better than this! I´m nodding with U....Funky as helllll
I remember listening to this for the first time when it was released. Incredible first album for a monster band!
I've never heard this before it was fire.
It's good to see young people getting to enjoy what was available to us in generations past.
“South California Purple” next
Incidentally, I think the background singers are singing this over and over: "I...do...now...you". I could be wrong, but "I do" would likely mean the marital vow, and if the other bit truly says "now you" means he wants to marry her right then and there.
THIS IS SO BRILLIANT......CHECK OUT THE BAND CHASE LED BY TRUMPETER BILL CHASE,, GREAT SONGS ARE "OPEN UP WIDE" "INVITATION TO A RIVER""CLOSE UP TIGHT"...KENT IN OHIO
This song is unspeakably hot
That’s Terry for ya
You need to check out the live Tanglewood version of 25 or 6 to 4. Terry Kath absolutely shreds the guitar for almost 3 minutes.
THIS
Believe it or not this all written out
It might blow some of these reaction channels away that it’s Peter on the bass
3:33 this song kills the tube vs transistor argument for me. The way he dials in is bad ass. Makes it feel live. There’s a version of machine gun by band of gypsies that also shows why vacuum tube amps are the best. That saturation.
Great reaction! I agree with the Introduction recs.
Great reaction 🎧
Ever heard of savoy brown? Check em out!
Saw Chicago with my father in 1984
Thank you! Don't think I've listened to that song since about 1974
One of my favorite Chicago songs, but you can't go wrong with the early albums anyway (o.k. "Free From Guitar" is a bit idiosyncratic)
I’m A Man is the name of the song
Jay Rah. You've helped me expand my appreciation of different art forms. This is how Chicago pushed the envelope in 1969. Who would you suggest is pushing the envelope in 2021? I'd love to give them a listen.
Jay, that stank face at 8:54 says it all. This is the Chicago I know and love. Not the sappy love songs of the 80's and 90's. Granted they were successful with the sappy stuff, but Terry was the spiritual funky ass leader of the band, and his loss was evident.
They weren’t the same without Terry Kath.
Dead on reaction. These guys are trained musicians. During this time Chicago was one of the best jam bands. Check out liberation for further proof of that. In my opinion kath was the best. After kath the band fell off big time. This guy gives great reactions. Very intelligent
You need to listen Leonard Cohen,, recitation of ,, a thousand KISSES deep PLEASE
TY for Hope u will listen to my suggestion ,, it's very beautiful very deep
Bad ass jam. Id like this but my liked is my play list. Keep on keeping on bro
Bro, i think it might be time to take a dive into Jack White's music. You probably know a few of his songs from The White Stripes, like Seven Nation Army, but he has a ton of great stuff, and is one of the most underappreciated guitar gods. Check out the live version of Death Letter at Blackpool. Its a cover of a Son House blues song. You've seen slide guitar in rock songs before, but you will rarely see a slide guitar rock THIS hard.
Also suggest Catch Hell Blues, Ball and a Biscuit.....
Check out Listen 🔥🔥🔥same album
you need to react to No Tell Lover - funky smooth song
But J have you done Hendrix? Cause Jesus said it's the right thing to do....
do your homework!!! who is on guitar? really?????
Skip 80's Chicago. Not good
A lot of their 80s output was forgettable Pop drivel but there are quite a few gems on XIV, 16, and 17. After Cetera left the band they really weren’t going in the right direction until they got Keith Howland on guitar to bring back that Hard Rock edge that Terry Kath brought in the early days. They got better after they got rid of Bill Champlin. The current lineup is easily the best since the mid 70s. Even though they’re not producing much original content these days they are still worth checking out live. Caught them on the last two tours they did and was very impressed in spite of all the jaded “Boomer” reviews that were nothing less than insulting. I’ve been a fan of Chicago since the 70s. I grew up listening to them and am a musician myself. The reviews were trash from trash people. The bottom line is most people need to check stuff out for themself instead of relying on two word comments like “not good.”
@@julianortiz4151 Thanks for letting me know! I'll give it a listen!
#Filthy #Dirty
I could never really get into jam jazz-like music, it seems too unorganized for me ...too many instruments fighting for my attention.
That's too bad...
@@shawnk7832
Yeah, maybe it's an OCD thing?
I get that from Mile Davis type stuff.
