  • This week’s film breakdown analyzes the San Francisco 49ers offense and how Kyle Shanahan creates explosive plays. Shanahan uses three pillars to construct a gameplan: tendency breakers, self scouting and pass/run ambiguity. Using the coaches all-22 game film, this episode analyzes the San Francisco 49ers 48-46 victory over the New Orleans Saints in week 14.

    SPEAKING AS A LONG TIME 49ERS SINCE 55, Coach Shanahan West Coast Offense 11 goes beyond Coach Walsh's scheme! One common basic factor that both West Coast Offenses identify and select talented individuals with specific skills that "fit" their system! This brilliant film breakdown analyzes the 49ers creative offensive schemes! However, what is what is unique to Coach Shanahan offensive Concepts creates more explosive play situations using similar formations looks, but different execution schemes!."Shanahan multi-faceted concepts that uses three pillars to construct various a gameplan: 1) tendency breakers, 2) self scouting and 3) pass/run ambiguity. His basic principle is using a starting formation that looks the same, but he "tweeds" adjustments to the original scouted play look then, he devises a modified version to create a different play to completely fool the opponents defense.
    Remarkably unique and creative! Kudos to AlexRollinsNFL for excellent analysis!

    Thanks for another great breakdown. You're exactly right about the tendency breakers, self scouting and making run vs pass formations look the same. The blocking is designed to start off exactly the same for run/pass also, so defenses can't key on the look and are left basically guessing. More often than not, they end up guessing wrong due to the deception, plus the QB reading their look and calling the opposite play to defeat it.

    I love this channel... and I'm sure it's just a coincidence that a ton of the videos are about the Niners dominating... 😆
    Explosive plays are exciting and can rack up points, but the downside is that the Niners are near the bottom of the league in Time of Possession (28th). San Fran's defense has been on the field more than all but a few Defenses, and it may contribute to the abnormally high number of injuries. Having said that, the D has played at an elite level, and epitomizes the concept of "bend but don't break".
    What's even more unusual is that SF has the 2nd ranked Rush Offense, which typically correlates to positive time of possession.
    Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't change a thing... I'm just playing Devil's Advocate.

    • @AlexRollinsNFL
      @AlexRollinsNFL  Před 4 lety +1

      Good question. A pass blitz is designed to get to a certain spot (where the QB is), but if the play initially looks like run, and maybe it is a run, this will be completely ineffective. A run blitz fills gaps quickly, but if it's a pass that won't be effective either. The play action aspect is why the burner concept is so effective
