- I go through the final task; to clear crash data after collision in attempt to turn off SRS light or reset airbag light after accident in this 2017 Accord EX. This applies to Honda Accords 2013 - 2017. This is the final video in the series, how to reset SRS after collision. All videos on the restoration of SRS in this Honda Accord are here • SRS Repair after colli...
Accidents or collisions are common and how to reset airbag light after accident, how to reset airbag light after collision, how to fix the SRS after collision or repair SRS after collision are common queries searched by car owners. Once accidents occur, hard codes are set in the supplemental restraint system and these cannot be cleared by scan tool. Special tools are required. An alternative will be to procure a brand new SRS module. These are sometimes pricey and may require dealer-level programming. While some professional crash data clearing services like www.myairbags.com/ and www.safetyrestore.com/ exist, eBay features sellers that offer the same service for around USD35.

Great vid! I LOL at the "few days later" transition. 😂
😁😁😁 Thanks for thr compliment.
First of all, taking apart trim pieces scare me. It usually feels like I'm breaking something. Also, your ratchet torx hack was absolutely brilliant. This is the best channel to learn harness removal, amongst other things😅😅. Great video as usual, thank you!
😄 Easy does it with trim pieces. Plus know the structure well: where there are screws and where it's just push pins-tabs.
Thanks a lot!
Sounds like ur breaking something. Just know ur not. Trims are mostly snap ins not screws. Only some part of a trim will have screws. Anywhere an important connector is.
Thanks for sharing this knowledge, and congrats on the great new ride! H-life babeeeey!
Thanks!!
Great video! And YES! Please do another video of the passenger seat calibration. Thanks!
Many thanks! Will do.
Always great videos!!
Many thanks!!!! 🎊 🎉
great video. I would like to see calibration of the SWS system.
Thanks! Request, noted.
Thank you So much Brother 💯
You're welcome.
I have the two curtains deployed on my Ford Fiesta, to be clear, first I must remove the module and send it to reset, and I put the new curtains and that's it. I don't need to do anything else on the vehicle's computer. Thanks for your video
You'll need to read the SRS ECU to get the complete list of SRS codes that it stored from the accident. They should all be addressed, before the module is cleared of crash data.
good job! Thanks for your talent. I have a question of new honda accord 2022 sport. changed my airbags and fixed all mechanical and its working fine. light still srs as I did not delete any yet do not have scanner tool to do so,, yet. but do u think with the new car i need to do same thing o=of what you did or it will reset itself please share your insights. Thanks
Module must be reset in addition to fixing every srs component that has a DTC. Thanks for the compliment.
Save money I like it nice job
In true DIY fashion 😅
Great video, good visuals of what you are up to, and well paced description all through the process. If all CZcams videos are like yours, people won't get stuck when they attempt a similar fix.
I have a couple of questions if you don't mind.
1. You said you sent the SRS module to a local service, is the local service in Lagos? Can you share their contacts?
2. I believe a deployed drivers airbag always requires replacement of the seat belt before the SRS light goes out. What did you do about that?
Thanks for the compliments!
Answering your questions:
1. Yes, contact in Lagos. Either send me an email: piyke(at)diyautoworksng(dot)com or send me a DM on instagram @piykediyautoworksng. I won't want to leave his contact on the open web. Too many scammers if you know what I mean.
2. The seat belt will only deploy if the occupant was wearing it. If they weren't wearing it (just like my case), it won't deploy.
hello i have a 2011 chevy silverado that was in an accident and the driver air bag deployed and the driver and passenger seat belts locked and i already have the driver air bag and the seat belts and the clockspring all were from a used truck but they are good and the srs module is plastic it is the original and the impact sensors are not destroyed, if I change the air bag, the clockspring and the seat belts yes after installing the parts I can reset the srs module with an obd2 scanner??
Hello. Thanks for watching! No, you won't be able to reset aka delete the crash data from the SRS ECU with a scanner. Even well advanced scanners don't do this. Special tools are required (usually over a thousand bucks), with significant know-how. There are some online services that delete crash data for less than $50. Maybe you want to explore one of those?
Nice video mate just want to ask if the airbag deploy car wont start?
Thanks! Car will still start.
Great video. Looks very similar to an Acura ILX 2015. SRS big warning message come on sometimes. Car was in a previous accident previous owner. How do i know if it has crash data that needs ro be reset? Thanks in advance
Thanks for the compliment. Just scan with a SRS-enabled scanner. If you see any codes suggesting airbag or seatbelt deployment, it has crash data.
@@DIYAutoworksNG thank you
Great video sir. So I sent my module off and had it recalibrated reset whatever they do to it and they sent it back. I put it in the car and my airbag light is still on. Is there anything else that I should do? Thanks!
Did you scan the car before sending the module off? If you scan the car now, any SRS codes?
My honda accord 2010 has the same issue I replaced the curtain airbag the seat belt and the seat airbag the light still on I have try to reset it with the scanner and it won’t go away so I’m wondering if this is maybe what it needs
Exactly what it needs. It will never go off except you do this. The other alternative is to replace and program a new module. Seems the reprogramming can only be done with Honda in-house tools.
Do you recommend clearing srs module 1st, or replacing the seatbelt? I have multiple codes all from accident on passenger side. Airbag light on but airbags were not deployed.
Replace the damaged components. Clear the module last after all repairs.
@@DIYAutoworksNG thanks for the advice!
If I buy another Srs module that has not been in an accident that the airbags in the car have not deployed can I use that Srs module on another car? Would I have to program it to the car? Or can I just plug and play without any problems?
It depends on the car. If it's a Honda, it will need to be programmed. I don't know any tool that can do that except Honda in-house tool (could be wrong). You won't have this problem on a lot of Toyota as they are almost plug and play.
Hello where exactly did you send your module to be reset. And how long did it take to get it back?
It was a local service. I had it back in 3 days ie sent day 1, returned day 3.
Hallo,
I bought a Honda Accord Euro 2010, It had accident but no airbag Diplome the, now there is an airbag fault from two side curtain and driver belt. Should I reset the module or it is series fault ?
What are the actual codes?
Hi, the problem was with the tensioner, some how deployed and after changing problem is gone.
Thanks
Abbas
Autel can’t delete crasch data from SRS Ecu? You had to send the driver( SRS module) to the company special elektronics?
Yes. Autel cannot. Not only Autel even Snap-on and the others that cost thousands of dollars cannot either.
I sent it to a company that does only airbag/SRS repairs.
How long did it take, sending it out and getting it back. And couldn't it be done locally?
This was done locally and took 3 days in total. 2 days in transit (sending/return) and 1 day with the reset service.
@@DIYAutoworksNG Brilliant
👌🏼
So we don’t need to buy a new module? You only reset it that’s right?
Yes, if the module doesn't have any physical damage. Although Honda recommends replacing the module after an accident where the airbag/seatbelt deployed.
Where I can find software for programming srs module? And how much is this cost?
Not a straight forward question, but you'll be needing software, hardware and a decent amount of know-how. You can Google equipment for crash data deletion to get started. I don't do this myself so can't really advise further.
My car was in a small collision where it scraped my paint and left a small crack on the bumper right below the front right headlight. Now my airbag light is on. Will I need to replace the sensor?
The best thing to do is to scan the car with a scanner that has SRS access. Maybe wiring to, or the crash sensor itself was damaged. Could be something else, but the scan will point you in the right direction.
@@DIYAutoworksNGplease I have similar issues but with Toyota Camry 2011 but my car can’t scan yet, I think it’s coz there is still water inside the modules, any advice…?
Hi I have mazda cx-5 2023 I took The module off Before changing the airbags or using a scanner to clear or reset all the faulty codes and send it to safety restore Will alongside with the seat belts. They fix the seat belts. But they were saying that they were unable to connect with the module.Because the module is locked.Any idea what should I do?Should I put it back on the car?Reset the heart codes with The A u t e l scanner And then send it back again to get the crash data clear.Or locked it means The module is damaged
Hey. I've never heard of an SRS module being locked. Was that the exact term they used or did they say it's damaged. Either way, an Autel scanner won't reset hard codes except you have the ones that come with EEPROM accessories and you know your way around reading and clearing EEPROMs.
@DIYAutoworksNG not sure honestly they told me it's locked unable to To communicate with the chip. Do you think maybe they don't have the software for it? Because the car's a brand new, it's a 23.
@DIYAutoworksNG We received your order and unfortunately looks like one of your airbag modules cannot be repaired due to an internal communication error with the chip. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We will be issuing you a full refund for the item. Please give us a call if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you. That's what exactly they send me
@DIYAutoworksNG Alrighty! I spoke with our technicians, and it looks like that SRS Airbag Module was failed due to a "Locked Chip".
2nd time When an Airbag Module has a "Locked Chip", we are unable to reset it. If you visit a local dealer, they may be able to assist you with that module.
I see. Manufacturers increasingly protecting their turf! Thanks for sharing. Shame on Mazda. They'll want you to buy a new module.
Since there's the option of refunds, maybe try myairbags.com perhaps, they may have the tools.
The module wasn't impacted in any way, correct?
Where did you send your srs module to clear the crash data?
I sent to a local service that does crash data deletion.
@@DIYAutoworksNG Hi, I sent my srs airbag module to the company named Myairbag to have my crash data cleared. After I received the module, I ten installed it back to the car the way you mentioned in the video. The airbag light did not go off, instead I received the following codes C1111, U0416, U3000, B0001, B00A0, C0051, I have a 2017 Honda Civic LX 4 Door Sedan.
My second question is will I need to replace my steering wheel clock spring after airbag deployment? My horn works but I do have traction control light, srs airbag light and break system light yellow and break light red on. Thanks you for your help
Did you scan the SRS module before you started work on the car? This gives you the list of srs faults and thus, the things to replace.
I see from a code or 2 that the driver airbag deployed, also was there a front passenger in the car at the time of the accident? There's an occupant detection system (ODS) code as well. The rule is to do the scan first, complete indicated repairs, and clearing crash data comes last. On clearing the SRS light, if you've fixed all the repairs flagged, you may need to perform an ODS caliberation with a scan tool for the light to go off. Sometimes, you may also need to just clear the SRS codes from the ECU for the light to go out.
For the clockspring, it must not be replaced as routine, there would usually be codes indicating an issue in the driver squib circuit. From what you posted, I don't see any codes indicating that.
I also think you may need to review the connections for the module, make sure everything is tight, no bent or corroded pins in the connectors.
Finally, it would seem there are srs unrelated codes in the ECU e.g. Steering angle sensor C0051. Not sure if the sensor was damaged in the accident or its wiring, or its an unrelated fault. How bad the collision?
On Honda cars, its common for an SAS fault to trigger a parallel ABS or VSA code.
@@DIYAutoworksNG @DIYAutoworksNG Hi, I have learnt that after having the airbag module reset or having the crash data cleared, all of the dashlights will come on like srs, tpms, traction control, and break light. The passenger weight sensor would need to be calibrated. I was wondering if the obd scan tool Autel Mp808TS was able to calibrate these issues and have the lights turned off?
Yes. The MP808TS is able to initialize the occupant deception module under the seat
Where did u purchase the new crash sensors?
hondapartsnow.com
@@DIYAutoworksNG if i replaced airbag and sensors and got the srs reset but didn't replace my seatbelt...will the srs light remain on?
If the seatbelt deployed in the accident, or there's any other srs component that got damaged in the accident, the light will not go off. Also, depending on the car you may need to relearn the occupant detection system.
@@DIYAutoworksNG ok thanks...when i reinstall the module i'll scan again
So a good obd scanner will not clear srs crash data from module ?
Yes. Special tools required. Some scanners are beginning to add SRS module repair, but coverage is very weak
@@DIYAutoworksNGThanks someone told me I can just replace the side curtain air bag and get a module like from junkyard with no crash data and a good obd scanner can reprogram it to the car
Also if the crash sensors where not broken then they won't need to be replaced. He charges $75 to clear crash data tho..which is a good.bargain I suppose
How will you know the module from the junkyard doesn't have crash data? Not every scanner can program a new module to a car. It also depends on the car brand.
@@DIYAutoworksNG If the car isn't crashed or the airbags are not deployed will be an indicator sometimes you find cars at junkyard with no body damage and a seized engine..
Good morning, when the car is hit from the side, and the side bags on one side are activated, that is, the seat bag and the roof bag. you have to do the same process, that module is a 2014 honda accord
Yep. Same process. Remember to check the side crash sensors. An SRS scan will point out the things to fix
@@DIYAutoworksNG thank you very much you are very kind
Where u located
Why do you ask? I don't actually have a shop or repair cars commercially.
Yes obviously putting all the bolts on is best but the airbags won’t explode if you don’t put all of them on. I’ve seen those professional online stores like my airbags or safety restore claim if you don’t put on all three then airbags WILL deploy. Not true. Lol
Lol. While I get your point, I know people whose airbags have deployed while being fitted. Static, ground etc are real contenders for deploying airbags. A sudden jolt like falling from an unstable surface🤐
I always choose the better safe than sorry approach.
Another issue with not bolting it down to test, is, if it all checks out, you will need to disable the SRS system again to bolt down. It's industry best practice to disable the SRS when working in the vicinity of components. A lot of it is risk reduction.
@@DIYAutoworksNG I make a living working on the airbag system. Only way they can deploy is if the ignition is on or if they turn the module upside down . . I had a customer come in with an older dodge truck once and he didn’t even have his module bolted down !!!😂😂😂 it was just plugged in under the dash lay down flat on the carpet lol . Even just one bolt is fine. But yeah putting all 3 is the best and “professional” way. I just know for a fact it won’t blow the airbags
😂 😂 😂 😂 @ dangling module!
I guess the perfectionist in me may still put in the 3. Lol. Thanks for sharing your experience. Much appreciated!
Do you do crash data resets?
@@DIYAutoworksNG I was surprised nothing blew up ! Lol . Either way is fine honestly. I usually put 3 but sometimes I just put the corners.. yeah I do crash data resets.. do u do airbag work and send the module out ?
Yea. I do airbag work and send out the module. Wanted to invest in reset tools but a bit steep for the DIYer. Looked at Carprog etc. Which one do you prefer? I respect you guys! Especially those that use generic eeprom readers!
