  • Old MacBook Pro stuff today, the three beeps on boot are a generic memory error. Sometimes, as in this video, it's an easy DIY job to resolve. Sometimes it's a lot more complicated. But for now, here's the quick fixes to try before anything else.

i’m 17 and have absolutely no experience with any of this. my dad wanted to take my computer in and didn’t have any faith in me but i convinced him to buy me a screwdriver small enough to fit. twenty minutes later tried to reboot and it didn’t work, but i realized my top memory module wasn’t working so thanks for that tip. now it’s on! dont think i put all the screws in the right place and didn’t keep track of which one was which but it works so hey 🤣 thanks a lot!

Very informative video. My own experience with 3 beeps . I bought a Macbook Pro 2012 on Craigslist a few days ago for $150. The bottom ram slot issue on the Macbook Pro I fixed with a plastic straw. I cut two small pieces of the straw and placed them under the bottom ram slot. But first I loosened 4 screws that held the ram bracket, and I tightened the screws back in the end. My Macbook Pro mid 2012 recognized both ram slots!! It works! There was no need to replace the logic board, or do any additional manipulation. I would probably cut a piece of old credit card for a better support underneath the faulty ram slot.

Thank you. I got 16gb of RAM shortly after buying my MacBook in early 2012 and disassembled it for restoration in 2021, when I finally got the funds and rebuilt it today September 10th 2023, It did the 3 beeps, I looked it up, saw your video, tried one slot and then the other and swapped cards when I noticed a small bit of oxidation connecting two pins, it was so small I rubbed it away with a q tip and some rubbing alcohol, tried it again and voila back in business.

Thank you so much! I own a mid-2012 MacBook Pro that I’ve had since around 2013 that all of a sudden wouldn’t start and had the 3 beeps. I found this video and it was a huge help! Figured out one of my ram sticks was faulty. Was able to use Timetec ram upgrades (from 4gb to 16gb now) and got them working. Thanks so much for the troubleshooting tips and tricks.

Fantastic & simple to try. Thanks. I saw other videos where they go right into using a heat gun to re-solder the main board with liquid flux applied. That would be disastrous as a 1st time repair. It takes 10 or so tries at heat gun re-soldering to get good enough at it to not ruin a main board. I know, I do it on printer boards & it is an art.

Found your video extremely useful. Unfortunately, on my MacBook Pro mid 2012 the problem seems to be on the bottom slot, and not on the memory modules. Furthermore, the beeping happens only sometimes, and the Mac often freeze-restart itself when physically moved from one desk to another while on. Do you believe there is anything I can do?
