#gaming #gamereviews #avowed - Hry
So here's how it goes- Avowed turns out to be great, succeeds both critically and commercially... Josh gets to do a Pillars 3 with a BG3 budget (and at least 4 years).... and PoE, Eora and Obsidian finally get where they deserve to be.
I'm not sure I believe it, but I certainly hope 😅
That does sound like copium lol. They may make another Avowed, though.
If Avowed turns out to be a major success they will probably make an Avowed 2 before Pillars 3 lol
I dunno. Maybe I'm too cynical, but I think the main reasons they were aquired was so that Mcrosoft could fill the need for more Bethesda style open-world games in their console line-up. I could see them maybe getting to do a smaller budget crpgs as a reward if Avowed does gangbusters, tho.
Avowed will reach a handsome, respectable level of commercial success and then Microsoft will announce 10 months later that they are shuttering Obsidian on Twitter, which is where Sawyer will learn he's now unemployed. The precedent is already here, the pattern will maintain.
Guys, I wrote this to sound like a very wild dream for a reason 😄. I very much want this to happen, but for now I just hope Avowed does well and Obsidian survives, because Hi-Fi RUSH did great and Tango didn't.
The combat looks much improved.
I remember backing the original Pillars of Eternity on kickstarter years ago. I wasn't even into CRPGs but something about Obsidian's desire to make something special to them really resonated with me. The version I backed came with a PDF book detailing the world and races of the game and I just loved reading through that. Even though I never finished PoE 1 I'm excited to see how this game brings us to the world of Eora but from a different perspective. It might be time for me to finish PoE XD.
Play it on easy and just enjoy the storyline.
Or give PoE2 a try. I didn't finish PoE before I played PoE2. I went back to PoE afterwards.
@@sodapopinksi667 Same for me! For whatever reason I loved PoE after playing through PoE2 but I couldn't get into beforehand
@@codyvandal2860 In my experience, PoE1 isn't as good at giving context, clues and information. Getting back into it after the second game was much easier since I was more familiar with the lore and the game world.
@@Djeveldyrker That's exactly the case. The huge walls of text can be a bit cumbersome even for rpg veterans too.
Happy to be back in Eora.
Absolutely..can't wait
Is that how its spelled? Man you can tell i be skipping lore dialogue
Taken as a whole, the game looks good to me. From what's shown so far, I want to level up a character, meet companions, and complete the game.
I honestly dont know how you dont have more subs, you are for gamers by far the most trustworthy reviewer
It's really nice seeing the Pillars font and little item drawings again, bring on the ligatures!
I loved playing through Pillars’ first 30 hours like 10 different times with different characters.
Great atmosphere and character systems - loved multiclassing new ideas.
Avowed does look to share a lot of the atmosphere of PoE at second glance. The night scene they showed is "animancy colored".
I love the look of the Pillars universe.
Same
love it too, although I have to confess I prefer Pillars 1 more muted visual approach with some highlights (like Adra pillars and copper motifs) to the oceanic-vivid Pillars 2. this one could be somewhere in between, erring on the side of vivid.
@@Spelljammer1 Looks like the more "vivid" parts will be provided via glowy mushrooms in Avowed. Hell some of the plantlife in the trailer and podcast looked like something you'd see undersea not on land. I dig the looks so far though. Delemgan Queen was the worst thing for me. It doesn't look female at all, not even a hint of any feminine shape.
@@chillax319does she have to?
@@larrypotter2243 In the Pillars they always did have female curves. Including the corrupted crone-like ones with saggy tiddies.
There is an animation for drinking the potion. Sold!
Jokes aside, thank you for this update. :)
I'm glad they added 3rd person. That's a complete game changer for me.
same. as someone who has motion sickness over 1st person game, this news make me happy
Yes same, I get easily disoriented in 1st person games these days.
Skyrim has this too. Take it with a grain of salt
As one who has vertigo that is triggered by 1st Person game play adding the 3rd Person perspective is perfect.
How the hell do you get motion sickness @11590red
I am glad to see that stealth is a thing you can actually use, and I am even happier to see the world react to how you play. I hope to see more of that.
I did not enjoy the outer worlds because movement was really floaty, and because the whole tone of the game was too Borderlandesque for me. Hope the combat on avowed feels more weighty, and that the tone is a litle bit more serious.
I was a little worried at first but this new trailer is looking pretty good. I am cautiously optimistic about Avowed.
Thank the gods for 3rd person!!
I prefer 3rd person games, but most games designed for 1st person first tend to have somewhat janky 3rd person modes. Wonder how that's gonna go.
@@sodapopinksi667 I’m completely fine doing the combat in first person if that’s a smoother experience. But the traversal can be done in 3rd person without any issues. The point is to see the character you’ve made as much as you can. May not be a 100% of the time but I’ll still prefer the option to switch than being locked out of it.
@atharvawaikar9730 good point. Better than no option at all.
Thank god indeed! Now I will play it, I don't enjoy RPG's where you have all that cool stuff and you can't even see it on your character.
The combat not being floaty is fantastic
I really liked what they showed in the 30minute video. The multiclass aspect of the progression system is gonna be interesting to mix and match. Also the game being third person is a huge plus for me, because I am not a fan of first person all that much. My only gripe is that we are forced to play a Godlike race...for story purposes.
This was a much better showing than last time and now I'm 100% sold and I can't wait to dive back into Eora.
Shame there don't seem to be abilities related to the Druid class from the looks of it.
@@janneswilmink487 or paladin or battle priest or anything. They went super generic and restricted
Or the cipher, which I find infuriating. Was dying to see that purple glow effect in first person. My first playthrough in these games is always with a cipher and my disappointment is immeasurable.
no drug monk or chanter either as far as I can tell :(
God like isn't a race though. Godlike is something that is applied to any race by a God. Any race can be godlike. They're probably going to do is have you choose your race in whatever race you choose, that race will be godlike for your character. But Godlike itself is not a race.
@@Grimjr7 "Godlike are one of the civilized races that inhabit Eora. They are beings that are thought to be "blessed" by the gods before birth. While far less common than the other races due to their rarity and inability to reproduce, godlikes exist throughout Eora, albeit in low numbers. Depending on the social view of the culture they are born to, godlikes are often either glorified as a physical embodiment of a god, or shunned and outcast as an abomination." this is from the wiki? It is a race. Also I when making a pillars 1 character and when you get to choose a race you get to choose Godlike or Human, Orlan etc.
The second I hear that clicking sfx for the dialogue choices I am sold. I'll be there day 1.
Strange how it's the tiny details in the character sheet menus, and ability hint iconography in dialogue that rekindled my excitement for this.
It was a great interview about gameplay (not the trailer), reassuring for fans of RPG, with good hosts who did not read from a strict acted script (partly prepared and curated, but not corny comm lines). Well done.
Thanks for the info. Avowed is looking good. It's Obsidian, one of the few developers left who haven't let me down yet. It doesn't look like it's going to dethrone Baldurs Gate 3, but neither does anything else on the horizon. Hope the writing and story are good, as in their past efforts, and looking forward to going back to the Pillars universe in full 3d.
While I would have preferred a PoE3, I am just happy to be returning Eora. I loved Obisidian's Outer Worlds so I have faith that Avowed is still going to be good and that the story telling is going to be on point, but PoE was just such a good CRPG that it still sucks knowing that it won't be happening. Either way, can't wait to see the aftermath of PoE2 in Avowed, happy to be a Godlike because I always played one in PoE (Who needs helmets when you get godlike bonuses) and I am hoping that I can somewhat simulate my Druid/Paladin from PoE2 which was a lot of fun. That is probably the only area that has me kind of down that the skill trees don't seem to run the gambit of PoE's awesome Class system. Obviously we won't be able to shift like a Druid, and it seems many of the Druid spells are in the Ranger tree but I was hoping to see some Cipher skills. I am hoping that spells associated with other classes that don't have dedicated tabs like Fighter, Ranger and Wizard do have some representation in those tabs in some way.
Gotta say I'm loving the improvements I'm seeing. Also I always liked the art direction, but I'm so invested ij how Obsidian can make its world pop out and be colorful
Really interesting that you can play in 3rd person, although I'll almost certainly stay in first person, much more immersive IMO but it's cool to have the option. Plus it lets you actually see all the cool gear you're equipped with.
The latter is what Outer Worlds lacked, especially as Obsidian did a great job with Armors and clothes and they were only visible on companions, short of a bad idle rotating camera.
I'm glad for the third person dialog
I'm gonna do the same that I do with Bethesda games, third person for overworld exploration, switch back to first person when interiors or entering combat.
I wasn’t at all interested in this game until they announced 3rd person. Now I’m super into it and am planning on getting it.
I'm glad there will be a third person game mode. Thanks for the update; Looking forward to getting more content about the game.
I appreciate simple things like 1st person potion animations. These kinds of games are all about immersion for me and that makes a huge difference.
`Edér Smiles at you...`
The UI & dialog reveals give me faith in this one the most out of everything shown.
3rd person is game changing for me. First person only is one of the only reasons I couldn’t get into Outer Worlds
Crazy. Typically opposite for me. For me. 3rd person is only used in platforming for me. Not upset about its addition or anything. just commenting that people are different and it's crazy.
I prefer third person, especially for stealth. However, first person is fine.
6 one way, half a dozen the other. They are both fine
Agreed. Just can't do 1st person for too long
I want a switchable 3rd person option as well if I'm going to be playing 1st.
So excited for this! Been too long since I last delved into a good Obsidian RPG
Boom 💥 another great video!
I wasn’t that interested in this originally but I’m kinda looking forward to it now. I hope they give you a review copy!
I like it. Visual style of the world is hight fantasy but different. I like it. Systems look robust too..
That talk was exactly what I needed to see. The fact those Mushroom people got punted like you actually hit them with a huge sword was so relieving to see.
I'm officially invested.
Very nice! I love the Pillars universe, and I'm looking forward to playing this :)
I'm playing Pillars 1 for the first time right now so I'm not super familiar with the world building. But since you're playing a godlike of an unknown god and Yatzli is researching a race that didn't worship any known gods. You can easily put two and two together to assume you're a godlike of the god of the race Yatzli is studying. Just a theory hopefully there is more to it than that.
I am hobestly more interested now
Awesome to learn new information about Avowed.
really like that there are basket hilted swords in the game
Avowed in 3rd Person? Yaaaaay!
wow 3rd person! Now I am interested!
Thanks for the video. 7:44it shows, in a good way. Onward to 400k. All glory to the algorithm.
Finally, finally obsidian has provided some actual details. Hopefully we can get more gameplay trailers soon as well as an official release date confirmation
Great to hear it will have 3rd person!
And yeah, we are all gonna end up veering towards a stealth archer again, aren't we?
What? NO!!!!.... Yes 😅
No, of course no...never mind. I'm a stealth archer now.
This game looks incredible!!! Only thing I'm thinking is that it would be great to have more mobility in combat - dodges, rolling etc but I can imagine it's very complex to take what was a CRPG to action RPG and balance it. Gameplay wise it very much looks like Skyrim with more variety in magical aspects...and I'm all for that!!!
i'm not sure if tthey were useing an older build last time but this was a much better showing.
Avowed had my curiosity,
but your video has my attention.
I'm especially excited about the various factions and their main representatives that will try to influence us (or we'll try to nudge in a certain direction if possible). No one does factions like Obsidian (not an exaggeration 😃).
The companions I've seen so far also seem very cool- Giatta looks and sounds great and will obviously be an important character (being an animancer and also one of the 3 voices in the trailer), Yatzli looks awesome, we have a blue/coastal aumaua dude as a companion for the first time... and I wonder if the inquisitor chick from the trailer (and from a small Deadfire quest) will be a companion too.
Looks interesting.
I was already interested, then you mentioned it's in the Pillars of Eternity universe sooo hell yeah!
I love they kept the upgrade system similar
Massive fan of the Pillars games, and am greatly looking forward to experiencing this world from a new perspective. I trust Obsidians vision.
3rd person? okay now i can wishlist the game.
I like the life style enemies and mushroom creatures! Nice turn of events from fighting demons
The new details were very much needed. Game actually feels like a proper rpg now lol. The story seems interesting now, the writing / dialogue seems decent. Defo has the outer world vibes though, hopfully abit better than that. Scale looks bigger at least. I hope companions can be customized enough to feel more than just people who follow you around. Still lots of questions, but it keeps looking better and better.
This is looking more and more like a day one purchase for me. Few games these days look like day one purchases, but this one looks so good.
Im a huge pillars fan. Im so stoked
So far I liked the thing that were showed in the gameplays, they have potential
I've beaten both PoE games and I absolutely love the world of Eora. They did a fantastic job building it. I can't wait to spend more time there and learn about it from a new perspective. One thing I don't understand is that the MC is a Godlike but the god is a mystery. I thought the manifestation of a Godlike's deformities was indicative of which god deformed them?
Generally yeah, simply have to wait for more info there.
Super interested now. I'm mixed on first person games but I'm all for 3rd person
I cant wait to be spare battery for one of the gods again! ;D I still remember your video about godlike lore and im so happy thar even if theres only human or elf i can still have some mystery like godlike involved. Cannot wait for the game because i love Pillars of Eternity World. Maybe our godlike aspect will be some manifestation of Living Lands and thats how we are connected to it. It would also explain why you got sent there and some bigger scheme behind
Bring back the class system and wide selection of race options and I'll consider playing this version of Pillars.
Game looks like it's starting to shape up. I still expect it to be "Outer Worlds" tier, but still worth playing. I played as a Godlike in PoE so I don't mind that narrative direction.
This looks like it’ll be pretty good honestly. I trust Obsidian even after their minor mistakes
It’s looking great and I’m really excited to finally get my hands on it, I’ve already decided for my first playthrough I’ll be a bit of a pirate (cutlass and pistol) hopefully we can add elemental damage to our weapons I would like lightning and cold, also I hope they add that tidal wave ability
always excited for an Obsidian rpg.
also got a slight Tyranny vibe from the story trailer and i am curious to see where that goes
Definitely, buying this day one.
It looks good to me, cant wait to get it and play. By looks of it, it is very obsidian. I think for people who played the outer worlds will feel themselves at home....
I am psyched!
I think it looks promising! Eager to play it!
This kinda looks like Skyrim. Which is awesome! If they nail the quests and lore from Pillars and the Skyrim gameplay this game will rock worlds
I can't wait to play it. should be this year, but when is hard to tell...
Yatzli is a must have companion for my first playthrough. The dialogue seems so much better than DA:VG
This gameplay looks a lot cooler than what they've showed so far lol
Excited to try it. With Elder Scrolls 6 who knows how long away this will be very welcome.
Definitely feeling better about this game after this video. Glad they are receptive to feedback from that first gameplay trailer they showed.
Oh the combat looks so much better. The force behind the spells seem satisfying. Magic is one of those things that can make or break a game like this.
I was super excited when we got that first teaser. Then i lost a bit of excitement with the next one. Now im starting to get excited again
Beside some stuttering footage, which hopefully they can still address before launch,
everything else looks very promising.
Also some very cool locations, 1st person view has its advantages in this game.
Thanks for your videos!
That is all so amazing.
This is a dream come true. Love Obsidian, love Pillars, and I love Skyrim.
Ooohh...the Godlike angle is going to be fun... :)
Thanks
I've been waiting for this game for awhile. I'm pretty excited for it. I really like the pillars lore and universe.
This game is my most excited title for this year
I am interested in seeing how the 3rd iteration of their RPG system turns out. I always felt the system was pretty good but did not really offer that much choice in how you build things... as in I always felt there was a clear "best way" to do a lot of stuff in the system.
Overall I think the gameplay improved in Pillars 2 but while they did refine the system they made many things even more straightforwards ... like for example I think in Pillars 2 there is basically no reason to ever not multiclass since it seems unless we are talking about the last couple levels and gametime the benefits always obviously outweight the ... well frankly not really existing drawbacks.
This looks great!
Damn this latest video looks so so much better than I expected!
Looks fun!
It's interesting that the environments almost look like they were designed as isometric maps then made into 3D spaces. Anyway, I'm looking forward to it.
This was the perfect video to wash the taste of the Dragon Age Trailer and gameplay reveal out of my mouth.
I think having both first and third person is great! I can fight and explore in First Person, while platforming and customization with my character in third person! Best of both worlds imo!
PS: holy cow! Magic looks awesome! Seems it has the appearance of Skyrim magic but actually packs a punch as in Oblivion
Replaying POE1 currently, this is exciting stuff. Kinda funny how they talked up improving attack animations and then showed it off by... actually I'm not sure how to describe it. Kinda like a slash, kinda like you're whacking them upside the head with your pommel? With no follow through on the swing at all? Not really sure what was going on there but who am I kidding I'll play the hell out of this regardless
Game looks great and I'm so pumped on 3rd I always explore in 3rd person and do combat in 1st
Wasn't gonna even give this game a look but now that they've confirmed third person, it's a must buy.
I would have played regardless, but 1st/3rd option is always a huge plus for me.
Was kinda hoping for skill points and class, but hey at least it's still got a good bit of RPG Incorporated in.
Ill definitely pick up this game if i can play 3rd person. The first person only was the reason i wrote the game off.
The third person mode is a pleasant addition to the game.
