    BURN IN WARRANTY UPDATE!! Ok so a number of you have commented saying you were told burn in IS covered but as you can see at the 9:55 mark, I was told word for word "I'm afraid burn in is not covered in the 3 years warranty". Before posting this video I had no idea that Samsung was telling some people yes and others no, but now that I'm aware I wanted to make an effort to get to the bottom of it. Before we get to that I just want to say to those stating I'm purposely lying to use it as clickbait, I do everything I can to keep my videos honest and transparent and in no way would purposely deceive my viewers, that would only cast a negative light on my channel I've worked so hard to build.
    So, (ready for a book?) I chatted twice on the Samsung G80SD page and spoke to a support rep and a supervisor using the customer service number's text with an agent option. I have screenshots for everything, but here's how it went.
    Chat agent Steve: I asked "There is much misinformation out there regarding the G80SD's 3 year warranty, does it cover burn in or not?" Steve replied "The warranty for the Samsung G80SD monitor covers manufacturing defects and malfunctions that occur during daily use. However, it's important to note that burn-in is not typically covered under warranty as it is considered a result of prolonged static image display. Burn-in can occur when static images are displayed for extended periods of time, causing permanent damage to the screen." That's word for word what I was told by the 1st chat agent.
    Chat agent Kavya: I asked "Quick question, does the G80SD 3 year warranty cover burn in?" Kavya replied "Yes. The monitor has the 3 years warranty." I then replied "I know it has a 3 year warranty but does that specifically cover burn in? Because I've asked twice before and both reps told me no." Kavya replied " Yes. Burn in does not covers under warranty" (Huh?) " It isn't explicitly stated, but we guarantee burn in protection for normal use. Samsung continuously innovates our Monitor OLED panels to prevent burn-in. Our Monitor OLED panels use pixel shifting and panel refresh to prevent burn-in, especially with still images. These technological improvements mean you can use your monitor without worrying about burn-in." So I replied " Ok so to be clear, burn in is or is not covered?" Kavya replied "Burn in is not covered. But it has the features which will prevent the burn in issues." A whole lot of confusion there, right? I wasn't satisfied so I decided to call support.
    Phone text agent Devi: I started the convo: "Hey Devi, so there's a lot of miscommunication going around with the G80SD and it's 3 year warranty. Some reps say it covers burn in and some say it doesn't. Does the 3 year warranty cover burn in specifically?" Devi replied "Could you please elaborate when you say burn?" I replied "Burn in is when static images burn into the OLED screen." Devi replied "Just to confirm is there any burn smell or smoke coming from the TV?" (Oh boy) I replied "No, on OLED monitors like the G80SD images can "burn in" into the screen so that the image never goes away. If this happens, will the 3 year warranty cover that?" Devi replied "My bad please help me with the monitor screen picture" (My bad? I thought this was a Samsung Pro, not a Samsung homeboy lol and why am I educating the Pro on what burn in is?) I asked for a supervisor at this point since Devi didn't know what I meant.
    Phone text with supervisor Upender: I started with "Does the 3 year warranty on the G80SD cover burn in?" Upender replied "Samsung provides 12 months of warranty from the date of purchase. However, physical damages are not covered under warranty. Is there any physical or liquid damage on the monitor?" I replied "So it's only 12 months not the 3 years listed on the product page?" Upender replied "The warranty is vary from the model to model OR device to device. Your monitor may have the 3 years warranty. But as I stated above, physical damage are not covered under warranty." (They still think I'm talking about an actual burn smh) I replied " Burn in is when a static image burns into the screen of an OLED monitor, it's not physical damage." Upender replied "Could you please send me a picture of the monitor issue?" I replied "It's just a warranty question so I know if I should buy or not but no one is understanding what burn in is. Google OLED burn in." Upender replied "Let me check the information for you." sometime later... "Yes I have checked the monitor website details, and it will come with a 3 year warranty." I said "I know there's a 3 year warranty, does the 3 year warranty specifically cover burn in?" Upender says "Yes, it will cover as stated if not involved by any physical damage. I mean the monitor itself went to defective or burn in, yes it will cover." He's still talking about physical damage and I don't think he understood what I meant.
    So at this point I asked for a US corporate number and was given an email. After all that I still don't have a definitive answer and I'm wondering if when people ask about burn in if these reps even know what they're talking about. I'm going to send an email to corporate and we'll see if I get a reply but I'm not holding my breath. My advice is unless it specifically states "3 year burn in warranty" on the product page, take anything you're told with a grain of salt. I'll follow up here if I get a reply from corporate.

    From what I’ve read, “Auto” color space in SDR is sRGB clamp. It looks like it’s using true 2.2 Gamma to me, not piecewise like most of the others. But I haven’t measured it for accuracy.
    I believe the same Auto setting in HDR mode gives you DCI-P3 or Rec.2020, like HDR would normally clamp to on other models.

    Hey Jacob, this is a great review. I have to say though, we live in exciting times and theres so many options to choose from regarding OLED. Samsung isn't the only monitor so whether they offer burn-in warranty or not shouldn't be an issue. Just buy a competing monitor. That said, I don't think Burn-in is a big of an issue with OLEDs as most people make it seem. The risk is so, so low for the average user and burn-in warranty is just a marketing tool that these companies are using to convince us to buy them. How long have we been using OLED TV's that don't cover burn-in in their warranties? That's just my two cents.

    • @JacobDarkOfficial
      @JacobDarkOfficial  Před měsícem +4

      Appreciate the input! I haven't dipped my toes on an OLED TV yet but next upgrade I'm sure I will be. As far as the monitor I agree, just get a competing brand. @theextraordinarypants4909 Před měsícem +5

    Here are my issues. Yes, the input board not only has a lot of give, but the cables do not seat flush with the back of the monitor either.
    240Hz and VRR are only accessible in game mode. The highest refresh rate outside of game mode appears to be 120Hz, so there are no steps between the two.
    When changing modes, for instance from game mode to "normal" mode, your settings seem to continually be wiped out and reset for no reason. Windows 10 isn't helping by constantly resetting its own settings and defaulting to disconnected and/or powered off receivers that run to a TV.
    Game Mode consumes 9 more watts just at desktop, but appears to give off significant amounts more heat: I just got rid of my Pioneer Plasma as I could not withstand the heat anymore, and the 65" LG OLED does not give off this kind of heat even after hours of use! The heat is coming off of the mid-back and screen. Since I am running an air purifier moving air in the room, I can feel it acutely as it swirls into me.
    Various options are greyed out with no explanation why or what the requirement is. I switched from HMDI to DisplayPort and "Auto" is no longer an option for me for "Game Mode." Additionally, I do not think Auto actually did anything: the monitor still read the full 240Hz unless this is something I had to manually set in Windows much like HDR (which is annoying too: doesn't my TV auto-HDR?).
    I've observed the monitor fail to auto-find the only source on.
    I've observed the monitor sit there and repeatedly "come back to life" from standby every 2 minutes, return to standby, come back, until I shut it off after 10 minutes of realizing it would not stop.
    I've observed the monitor fail to dim or turn off with no activity and no input. I've observed Windows keep the monitor active, and it failed to dim with no content (desktop or browser window open).
    Re-entering the settings or dealing with the heat is really annoying! There is also far more plastic on this monitor than I was lead to believe. I am sensitive to smells and was forced to "air this monitor" with a fan for five days in my garage as, out of the box, it had a noxious strong glue-like smell (I'm certain this is whatever was mixed into the internal PCBs and not actual glue: I find a lot of stuff coming out of China reeks and makes my physically ill, but not all; items smell far less out of Vietnam)
    Have you experienced any of these issues?

    • @JacobDarkOfficial

      @@dorkknight42 So, that isn't what I typed at all. I've seen people on CZcams with reading comprehension issues before, but damn... I find it helps to read all the words in the sentence from left to right while noting punctuation.
      Power usage and heat output are normal concerns for adults paying energy bills on an ever-warming planet. I do not see the issue with informing the audience here of my experience with this unit. Another CZcamsr stated MSI's 321URX does not require a special mode to use the 240hz refresh rate and VRR: it is an oddity that Samsung's G80SD does.

    • @theextraordinarypants4909
      @theextraordinarypants4909 Před 24 dny

      For the serious people here, one thing to note is that the VRR flicker is very real. I can see it even in scenes that are not very dark: for instance the blue of ocean water in an RTS. I applaud MSI for addressing it and trying to correct it via firmware even if that effort was unsuccessful. I am wondering if the months-long dearth of the MSI 321URX QD-OLED may be due to them attempting a revision to address VRR Flicker.

    • @theextraordinarypants4909
      @theextraordinarypants4909 Před 22 dny

      One more thing if anyone else has this problem pop up:
      I used an iPhone to perform the Smart Calibration on the monitor and it only calibrates a movie mode (although a separate Eco mode also has "calibrated" appended to it, but only shows up in certain situations, same as the movie mode). You cannot calibrate Game Mode this way. That is not the issue, however: after the calibration the monitor started showing pink 000 in the mid-upper left that would not go away no matter what was tried. The solution appears to be to, with the power on, unplug the monitor and let it sit for a minute, then plug it back in. This resets something in the monitor (settings are saved) and will remove the pink numbers overlaid onto your screen.

I am using Display port not HDMI as the GPU's have only one HDMI connector and I am using that one for my OLED TV [Unless I have a ASUS 4080 Super that has 2 HDMI connectors]. When it does that, I disconnect the power cable and reconnect it back into the monitor and noticed that will stop monitor to shut off. Even with the matte coating? This is supposed to be much better than the other QD-OLED monitors in bright rooms. Unfortunately, the LG has a fan.

      @@User-ys7cb I doubt you hear the fan especially if you are using a PC with the LG monitor which has way more fans that run a lot louder.

      @@ShawnLangford My PC is not on my desk and the case fans run at a very low RPM tho. My environment is very quiet in general. Even then, I can still hear a very faint noise from the AIO pump. The monitor is right in front of me, so it would really surprise me if I couldn't hear the fan.

      @@User-ys7cbYes, while it’s better than the glossy ones the blacks still look grey/purple during day time which is a turn off for me because it defeats the purpose of OLED.
      The fan is not audible on my LG.
