The line "I think of all of us you are the one most likely to end up stranded on an alien planet" goes hard 😂😂😂
_*Prudence will remember that._
That's not the only thing that's hard.
Really appreciate how you guys go out of your way to mark your sponsored content as such. Some channels barely acknowledge it
from what I understand, it's a legal requirement in England
Yep, kudos for that. :)
@@BaronFirespawn It's a legal requirement for basically just sharing your personal opinions? Hm, interesting. Thanks for mentioning it. :)
"You shouldn't just shoot everyone you see immediately... in the game." Thanks for adding that qualifier, Mike. Umm.... wait...
The casual way the distinction came out as well.... Suspicious (insert closed mouth gyarados meme)
I love Mike advising, “You shouldn’t just shoot everyone you see” and then immediately qualifying it with “in the game.” 😂
I actually played the original when it was new, and really liked it. At the time, the idea of the local citizenry treating you differently based on how you treat them felt unique. (Though I understand that's a pretty common game mechanic now.) Anyway, this video worked, because I didn't even know this reboot was a thing.
“But I’M human!” What an absolutely PERFECT line coming from Jane 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"supposing I can breathe the atmosphere" is such a genius first take ❤❤❤
I feel like an acknowledgment of the fact that Torture doesn’t teach aliens English would go a long way.
Speak louder, the Catholic Church didn't hear u
This was such a good discussion, I hadn't heard of this game, but now really want to check it out.
The remaster and original were really bad but it looks decent for 2
@@Rougrou1597 Sacrilege. The original was one of my favourite games growing up
@@Rougrou1597The original was a fantastic game for its time
Thanks, Mike and Jane. I do feel a little more prepared for survival now. Gonna go work on my functional immortality! I’ll keep everyone updated on how it goes. 🙂
The old outcast was phenomenal, so hopefully this comes out well.
A babel fish reference and Jane’s brilliant subtle 42 gag in the oxventure battle royale. Hitchiker’s fans going absolutely nuts in the stands!
I will only sit through blaitantly spomsored content when mike and jane are also on screen.
Well played you lot... Well played.
I like the Farscape style where the aliens aren’t getting the player characters idioms. I hope it does the same thing as Farscape with the aliens trying to learn them and using them VERY wrong
"Frell me dead!"

Outcast was mindblowing for a 13 years old in 1999
I totally confused Outcast and OutLAST in my head. I was very confused for a while
Same.
100%.
I was like... dang they're taking Outlast to a whole crazy new level if we're in space!!
And to be honest... I was totally here for it.
as long as you don't confuse it with OutKast, I think you're fine lol
Funny, I also confuse Outlast with the old Outcast. But I'm also old
Mike survived the alone in the dark haunted house! That’s even more impressive when he survived that sonic the hedgehog chili dog. Less impressive than surviving a like a dragon saito sunrise
I love mike calling out other british people who moved to spain but refuse to learn the language
Oh, wow. So, this reminds me of _Elex_ (which the channel did a Sponsored Content for, eons ago), which I dug because _that_ reminded me of an old video game that I played on my PC ages ago, which did feature a jungle-y, sci-fi environment, and a protagonist that has weird glasses, and...was that the original _Outcast?_ I genuinely never managed to remember the title of the game, but the old gameplay footage in this video kind of scratches an itch that I didn't know was on the back of my brain. This might have just helped me with a personal revelation, haha.
Anyway, as with those previous games, I'm always up for some, "mid-tier," sci-fi RPG; would love to see a Let's Play video of this, too!
Not going to lie: I thought Mike was making a British joke about "Vauxhalls."
Jane as logical commentator to Mike's chaotic is a good combo. As she just smiles and nods to a lot of what he's saying.
"But I'm Humans!" Jane being a gestalt consciousness confirmed. "You shouldn't just shoot everyone you see immediately... in the game." Mike confirmed as Mike.
I'm actually surprised there was no one on staff who'd played the original game. Great fun
Cutter looks younger but sounds like the same VA to me
Looks like an interesting game, hadn't heard of it yet. I like the tone of the dialogue...doesn't seem to take itself too seriously.
Read that as how to survive alien sponsored content - visions of probes and other beasty things filled my mind until I re-read it 😮
I loved the original game. Especially gathering the Gorgor Zort.
I played the demo for the original. Didn't get the full game but I played the demo a lot. Good times.
I played the demo and it was just fun to fly around the place
i love how mike sounds like he came up with a game concept and is trying to pitch it to jane xD
haha, now that you mention it, it does sound like that!
haha, now that you mention it, it does sound like that!
Damn, I forgot Jane is indeed our resident astronaut!
I'm glad we're talking about Jane's astronaut training again, even if just briefly. 😁
I'm going to check out the demo right now. I just need to get to the store to buy the gaming magazine for to get the demo disk.
Neat! Not sure when I'm going to be able to check "A new beginning" out, but for now at least I can use Mike's tips playing the original:)
I wouldn't have seen this game pop up otherwise. The Steam page reviews sound good and the jetpack movement looks awesome. Color me interested.
What I remember most about the original Outcast is that it had a full symphonic soundtrack performed by (I believe) the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, and it was FANTASTIC.
So if a Mass Effect: Andromeda (who was dreaming of Anthem) got in a transporter experiment with Uncharted and in a freak accident got merged together, this is the game that would step out of the pod with a stack of cash to make people talk about it.
This is one of the very few channels I appreciate also the sponsored content of.
One thing I never could stand about Earth. . . ALL THE DAMN HUMANS!
That whole time Jane looked like she was slowly dying inside, lol.
She's just listening?
Nice reference to The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy.
I finish the game yesterday. An absolute gem of game. UNDERRATED.
Well, I think I'm sold.
A Jetpack! That's a huge plus already, the VA work and conversations seem really cool too.
1:50 -5 nerd cred to Mike for thinking Voxel games died out. :p
What should we call the genre of video where Mike talks at someone about a sponsored game?
I do remember playing the original 1999 game.
Honestly it really nice to see that game maker are also getting a bit tired of dark gritty games. Possible cos a bunch seemed to come out at once but it nice to see something that isn’t a pure cosy game not making me worried to play it to close to bedtime.
That sounds like a you problem.
Colour me intrigued. Downloading the demo now.
7 of the most creative/fun grenades in video games
Playable demos ah nostalgia you goblin
8. Never worry about gravity, because according to movies & video games, every planet & moon in the Universe somehow has the exact same gravity as Earth. That includes Mars & Earth's moon. And though anti-gravity is completely impossible, we'll keep using that excuse for spaceships & space stations.
Mike and Jane: voxels are bad and we're glad it's dead as a technology lol
Me, minding my own business playing Enshrouded: 👀
Theres plenty of games using vowels as a kind of method of mapping things in 3d space, Minecraft, loads of others, but using them as an actual rendering tech like outcast isn't really the same thing
Playable demos never went away, haven't you played any recent resi games?, most had a special demo. The PlayStation store has always had them too, they just renamed them game trials.
I agree sticky grenades are good but burny grenades are the best.
Would be nice if the game ran with any kind of consistency on pc.
Outcast is such ancient game that outside team had to make quite effort
Either Mike is underdressed or Jane is overdressed. :)
There are still playable demos lol. Thankfully. Maybe games over $20 should automatically have a demo 😂. Oh, and if you're stranded on a different planet, plants=atmosphere. Let's just hope it isn't too high in CO2.
Man, I haven't thought of the original Outcast since I watched the LP. (On the Let's Play Archive, that is, not one by OXFam.)
Not coincidentally, sticky grenades are also the best kind of stick.
So this ultra-jerk has the aforementioned ex-pat energy, but turned up to like 19.
Don't stick your face over any strange eggs that open in your presence..
(EDIT: Typo)
The first game premise the main hero entered the rift to retrieve the scientists that were pulled into their experiment.
I was so, so confused why the game would be like this. I was thinking of Outlast. The horror game series.
Ok, liking this, looks really interesting
Played the demo on PC, quite enjojyed it.
@4:50 "Ha ha, Sticky Bomb Like You"
I bet there is no Outkast music in this game
1:55 - MC lampshades surviving this. **DING!**
Most important question: Can you change shirt?
Ok, looks good, but how does this tie into the defense of Super Earth?
Thank you for an informative and entertaining video. 😊
PS. I wonder who came up with the idea of having Captain Picard in the game? 😄
I like how video games now are about perfect graphics, perfect graphics & perfect open worlds, anyone who misses the outdated things should just live in a basement surrounded by outdated/irrelevant/dead things since obviously everything in life evolves/changes(genres in games,tv,mobies, music, ashion, trends, etc that were popular in the past obviously aren't popular anymore, the games that are the most popular & that make money are online ones not single player bit one good thing that single player has over online is that it doesn't have the daily pressures that online games have)these are facts.
It's an awesome game
You know you're in for a janky game when the title screen has shit popping in all over the place.
Counter point: Numbers pop out when you shoot them
Exactly how many of Jane's hobbies involve human waste?
Can you have pets that be great
Jane is always cute
Always a good sign for a games quality when “sponsored content” is in the initial title grab haha
For SponCon this was really good!
Thos game looks silly, but also fun!😅
why does the outfit remind me so much of half life, got to be the orange, love the survival tip be functionally immortal
Been wanting to try the original, ever since reading about it, back when it released. Already bought it, also years ago, on gog, but still didn't get around to it...
You should really try it out. It's a unique blend of different genres and the cinematic atmosphere is top-notch. It's best to start with Outcast 1.1 and than switch to Second Contact if you want better graphics and controls. But 1.1 has the original intro movie which is far better than the flawed intro movie of Second Contact.
"The only game with Cutter Slade!"
Mike, I think there was a chance to appeal to Jane's Star Trek side, because apparently the main character's personality sounds a bit like Tom Paris from ST: Voyager ^^
Idea for a future list video. 7 Dead games we would love to see get a second chance. I know this might not be a popular opinion, but I was desperately hoping that Anthem would be an amazing game. I would love to see another studio get the IP and have a chance to make it properly.
oh man, no voxels? what's the point :P
Cutter. Slade. …that’s certainly a… choice. 😅
Loving the game but holy crap is the game engine poorly optimized, this is definitely "AA" quality. I'm running a RTX 3060 and I had to set the graphics down to Medium to keep the engine from trying to do too much and eat itself alive.
7 things you learn from survival games.
1. Punch trees, get wood. Do not punch rocks, you get broken hands.
2. Wood + Rock is all you need to start your wood working empire.
3. building a bonfire in a wood building isn't as dumb as your mother made it out to be. Maybe we'll make the floor out of loose stones and build a crude fireplace instead.
4. Hardly anything will kill you immediately. Don't be afraid to experiment and make mistakes.
5. Try to eat everything. You'll be able to immediately tell what effect this has on you by taste alone.
6. You can directly make the leap from primitive metal working to futuristic electronics.
7. Never throw anything away. Hording is the key to survival. Junk always turns out to be valuable later.
Jane is my favorite physicist
Minor corrrection (to be the 'well akshulleee' guy for a second): Voxels did not die out. Not by a long shot. They are still very much around - they're just not the gritty Minecraft cubes everyone associates them with. Games like Enshrouded are using them, Everquest Next was trying to use them. Deeprock Galactic is using them. It's just consoles straight up do not have the processing power to deal with them very well, so they were always a more PC oriented technology. Even now, a PS5 only has about 3.5 Ghz of CPU, which is pretty mid-range.
One major problem voxels ran into was that they require a lot of CPU power - which GPUs can only partially help with - and CPUs are more or less landlocked at the 5Ghz-ish range for most consumer-range products. On mega server levels we've cracked that, but the power-to-investment trade off is substantial. Until we get advances in processor material technology to deal with the simultaneous problems with heat dissipation and ever-smaller nano-scale spatial constraints, we're not going to see major advances beyond what we already have. And in turn, voxels are going to be more limited in what games can do with them.
"really is a modern game" and "made with modern sensibilities" really aren't the selling points they used to be. In fact now those terms usually translate to "avoid this game at all costs".
18:32, is he a Navy Seal or a Soldier?
This is better than James Cameron's Avatar
they still trying to push this trash? and its full £60?!
This game looks like the product that Starfield was supposed to be!
The voice actor sounds like Mel Gibson in the game
Im getting serious rage 2 vibes
The only thing that makes me hesitate is the enemies look like bullet sponges. I don’t like that.
I’m gonna get this but not at full price. I thought it’d release at a discounted price.
So it basically it is just Avatar? Human getting acquainted with an alien race and ends up defending it from humans who are wrecking the planet?
Yep. I don't mind it having the same aesthetics as Avatar, but as soon as they revealed humans are the big baddies again my interest soured. That trope has become real old now.
The original story of the first outcast also had a human as the main baddie and that was way before Avatar was a thing, in actual fact that story line has been around since Robert Heinlien wrote a similar story in the 1960's, it is not original to Avatar in any way.
@@Neil_Hyman I don't doubt it but I have no idea what those things are and they had already made an aesthetic comparison to avatar and I don't know how much the developers know but seeming as though avatar would be the most recent place of inspiration I would assume that avatar is the thing that they were inspired by/copied
@@troylentz6580 The developers are the same as the ones that made the first Outcast game which came out before Avatar so why would they be basing their game on somebody else's IP when they already have their own that happens to be on an alien world being invaded by humans? Sorry but that makes no sense.
