Update: I heard from Dr.Plikus and he is not interested in sitting down for a podcast at this time. Maybe he will eventually change his mind.
Also, for those new to the channel, I have Alopecia Areata!!!! Hence the hair loss. Watch our video on the topic by searching the channel. Its a more rare form of hair loss (autoimmune) than what is typically seen.

The mechanism of action is ultrasound (sonophoresis) to make the stratum corneum more permeable to a serum containing hair growth peptides and growth factors. I presented our results at IMCAS this past year and I will present the updated data and results at ISHRS Delhi. Happy to discuss anytime. -Regards, Dr Bauman

Love the format of the video and the frank discussion about treatment options. However the information on the TED portion of the video should be updated to reflect that it is a delivery system for hair growth compounds and not ultrasound that grows hair. There has been an abundance of snake-oil in the hair restoration space so I agree a healthy dose of skepticism is prudent but the MOA of this technology / treatment is quite different from what was described in this video.

I have a alopecia universalist, complete hair loss all over my body for the last 10 years. For the first few years, it was very depressing, but now I have adjusted. Having no eyelashes and no eyebrows causes debris to easily get into my eyes. Having no facial hair as a man, I skip shaving, saving me time in the bathroom. Having no hair, I need to wear a hat in the summer and winter to keep my head cool and warm. no doctor has been able to explain my condition and why it happened, therefore, I will not be taking drugs or ointments that may or may not resolve the situation. There are side effects that could cause other issues, which I am not willing to accept.

I am using the combo of tretinoin and minxoidil 5%. This is the only thing that I have had any results with. I lost my hair due to a high fever for a month with double pneumonia, then a few months of prednisone. My hairline was sacrificed, but my biopsy says it looks like androgenic alopecia. I had a full hairline until I got sick. the product is very drying and my scalp is red and peeling most of the time, though.

so you absolutely have to apply the tretinoin on the scalp area you want hair to grow on? Traditional tretinoin or other retinoids on your facial skin doesn't work for hair growth?
I'm already on min, fin, cystiphane and cetrizine (against scalp itch). I kinda want to calm down a bit on all these medicines (Am only 20). Just The ordinary 1percent retinol works too or has to be tretinoin?

knowing new treatments are being studied gives us all good hope. I am 20 and started losing suddenly and agressively. I would say listen to him and talk about it with him. Don't make him deal with this alone. If he is old enough he can try medication. Doctors will say start min (I did it this way because of doctors) but if he is old enough he should start fin as that would stop the loss.

    • @DantesGrill
      @DantesGrill Před rokem

@@christophedobbels8877 I don't know about not dealing with this alone though. When I lost my hair I didn't want others to deal with it. If they found something useful for it I'd listen but most of the time it's not something I'd want others to interfere with or even acknowledge. Unless it was fully financing a hair transplant. Which never happened.
I think my cope was minoxidil though. Just keep using and hoping for the best. Maybe 8-10 years later I got tired of wasting time and money on it so I shaved my head. But it was a great crutch until I finally accepted my hair loss.

    1. What are your thoughts on stem cell clones of hair, transplanted into 3D bio grafts? Time reported on it. It seems like one of the most promising futures of hair transplantation if it works out.
    2. In regards to ultrasound, what are your thoughts on using at-home ultrasound facial device? I have a low frequency ultrasound device that is meant for facials (which I haven't really used as such due to some fears of fat loss) but would love to able to use it on my head. Hello. Great video. If I understand correctly, dermal papilla, is a cell. Once that cell dies in the particular part of the scalp, it cannot be regenerated, and is why we see balding in particular parts of the head? As such, when a hair transplant is performed, they remove the dermal papilla cell from the healthy part of the scalp, and then place it into the balding area, and thus, that hair is now growing on top of the scalp. With products such as minoxidil, and propecia, they help by removing the DHT from the hair cell, thus promoting thicker hair, however, it does not cure the underlying condition of the cell eventually dying. Over time, while minoxidil and propecia are great products for slowing down the hair loss process, and in some cases, thickening hair, the dermal papilla cell, over time, will eventually die, and the person using these products, while postponing the hair loss process over a longer period of time, will eventually lose their hair. Is this true?

Sign me up, I lost my hair throughout college and have been shaving my head for the last 20 years. I’d be interested if there were real results, but I’m not gonna pay until I would see hair growth. It would be nice to have a contract of payment made upon success, not just treatment.

I used to work for a hair restoration surgeon videotaping his FUE surgeries and research. He refined FUE technology developed originally by Dr. Woods. I'm now retired but my Dr. friend I worked for has a son that was developing hair loss. I saw him recently and his hair has improved dramatically. Here is what REALLY causes most hair loss in men and studies confirm this... DHT causes the male scalp to undergo a transformation in a genetically determined area of the scalp. Blood vessels are depleted and the fatty layer in the scalp becomes depleted. Scalp resistance exercises cause new blood vessel growth, and topical finasteride can help restore the fatty layer by "feminizing" the scalp. Minoxidil helps a little. The doctor has a new treatment he is using and it seems to have worked very well on his son. I can't remember what his son told me the new treatment is. Anyway, if I mentioned it here people would think I'm a sales rep or something.

I've used a roller and Minox 5% for awhile and made ..ok gains the moment I mixed tretinoin into my minoxidil container and used a roller still ,I made the same gains in 3 Mos that I did in the past of 1 yr ....I'm not a doctor just tried my own ways and sure as shit it worked. Make sure not to use too much Tretinoin in the mixture due to its drying side effects!...a lil' dab will do ya

Might any of these work on someone whose hair loss is due to radiation and chemo used after removal of a brain tumor (medulloblastoma) and replacement testosterone by injection every 2 weeks because of damage done to the pituitary gland with the radiation. He is 22 years cancer free but hair has been thinning quite a bit the last year. Testerone treatment started a few years ago. Cancer treatment occurred at 8 years of age.

I've noticed my hair thinning and very slightly receding lately. No one else notices unless I point out my patchy spots. I went to my doctor and started the dual medical therapies. I don't know for sure that they'll work, but the fact that I've started so early gives me some confidence. The whole situation has made me very anxious, but your videos definitely help. I'll do what I can to keep it, and if I can't, I'll embrace the shaved look. Thanks for setting a positive example, doc.

Any comments on hair restoration with micro current stimulation?
I had a practitioner who I saw in the early 90’s that used micro current to stimulate hair growth. I went for several treatments but never saw any results. The premise is the electricity helps relax the scalp to increase circulation. The best I got out of the therapy was feeling relaxed! LOL!

Please see the trials on bald mice, using topical 0.3% peppermint oil. I have tried this on some patients with - apparently - beneficial results. Ie hair shaft thickening, growth where growth had not occurred before and duration of shaft before death. (given with minoxidil and 2mg finasteride, orally, per day). I find encouraging the patient to self administer a deep scalp massage in the affected areas has a small but noticeable effect. There does appear to be an issue with blood supply, causing general thinning of the scalp (all areas). Fatty areas appear most affected and fat soluble vitamins may be implicated..

I have a treatment that seems to also help the efficacy of minoxidil. After applying your minoxidil you then put on your laser cap (if you have one) and use the regular amount of time you are supposed to wear it. If anyone can tell me if this isn't good I will stop doing it. However, it seems to help. And yes I think you should have the good Doctor on your show.
