    I do a lot of knife work/repairs for my woodcarving club and this is the stone I use. I am completely satisfied with it. You'd be hard pressed to find a better stone for the money. I'd recommend it to anyone.

    I like to use spit on a river rock. Seems to work pretty well. All my knives cut through room temperature butter very easily.
    On a serious note, I just got mine a week ago, and have used it several times on my work knives. I'm very pleased with it's performance so far.

It was definitely a trip lol. I work third shift so thanks for the videos to make the night go by faster

      Their strop, round diamond stones for recurves and serrated blades are also great. Generally high quality in all I’ve tried.

    I picked up this stone today because of outdoor 55.
    Last year the year before, I picked up my first super steel. A used zero tolerance in elmax. And I will tell you, what a freaking joke that was trying to sharpen that thing on my lansky (aluminum oxide?) kit! Wow.
    I've been able to maintain that edge so I haven't had to resharpen it much. But I look forward to using this stone for some kitchen knives.

    Nice. Good to see a long term review to backup what Outdoor55 said (or maybe he's backing up what you're saying 👀) I bought some DMT plates off of my sister when she wanted to use her Worksharp instead so there may be some overlap with this one.

    Guys don't use diamond pastes, it's so inconsistent in how the diamond is loaded on the strop. Use a quality emulsion, you will enjoy stropping so much more along with so much better preormance as the strop is properly coated. With pastes you get diamond in patches as you try to smear it around. Not to mention emulsions last much longer..

    • @adoseofdrew
      @adoseofdrew  Před 3 měsíci

      I haven’t had that experience unless I didn’t make sure the pastes hadn’t settled. The percentage of diamonds is important in spreading the paste also.

    Thanks for this review! I am just getting into sharpening and this will be my first stone. After using this stone I will still need a strop to remove the burr. SHARPAL sells a strop model 205H with 2 micron buffing paste. Would you recommend this strop, or should I buy another one?

    • @adoseofdrew
      @adoseofdrew  Před 3 měsíci +3

      I have their strop but use my own preferred brand of diamond paste. 5 micron diamond and 2 micron diamond. Their entire lineup seems good. They have quality at a reasonable price.

    • @kwinzman
      @kwinzman Před 3 měsíci +3

      @@adoseofdrew Appreciate it! I think the paste that they include is 1 to 2 microns. What kind of diamond paste are you using, if you don't mind me asking? And moreover do you remove the old paste from the strop (wash it off so something) if you're not using the strop for a few weeks? Or do you just apply new paste over the old one? Sorry for asking so many questions and thanks in advance!

    Do you use the Sharpal wet or dry? I noticed there were some users in the past who reported the diamond peeling/flaking off, or even some bubbles developing.
    Alex from OUTDOORS55 replied to another user that it could maybe happen if the stone was used wet, but I dont think I've seen similar issues with DMT or other diamond stones being used wet.

    • @adoseofdrew
      @adoseofdrew  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I generally try to use window cleaner or simple green if I’m feeling like using anything. The underlying steel plate can oxidize microscopically and lift the nickel off if there’s any gaps in coverage water can get through.
      That being said, I’ve used water, dish soap with a sprinkle of water, the above stuff, and just generally use them dry. A dish brush and soap will usually clean them just fine. Nearly all the marks you see in mine are due to a single incident of the stone being left near a frying pan that was actively cooking and sputtering.
      I’ve sharpened S90V dry with no issues. I’m fairly certain I’ll be doing a hand sharpening of my S110V. Most of my pocketknife sharpening is on the WorkSharp pro nowadays. A full review plus tips coming soon!
      Thanks for watching! 👍🏼🙏🏼🖖🏻

      It’ll set a nice bevel! It doesn’t polish the edge much, so you might wanna polish that edge for carving a bit more.

    It’s a mono crystalline stone not poly

    • @adoseofdrew
      @adoseofdrew  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Very true. The crystal chunks can get stacked in top of one another during electroplating, and it’s those crystals that break off during the wear-in period.
      Thanks for making sure that was clarified.

    • @EDCandLace
      @EDCandLace Před 3 měsíci +2

    • @adoseofdrew

    Would you rather have this or 2 atoma's?

    • @adoseofdrew
      @adoseofdrew  Před 2 měsíci

      Like the 400 and 1200? If I’m paying for them all, I’d take this. My Atoma 140 is great but wasn’t cheap. This doesn’t have the replaceability of Atomas, but if you take care of them, the Sharpal plates will last years.
      You can even find a DMT 6-inch set for around $90 at @sharpeningsupplies that are great. This Sharpal plate and their strop would make an inexpensive base-system if you’re on a tight budget.
