Sadly in PvZ1 not only does 25 sun meta makes him hard to afford in the early portion of levels but if you're just trying to beat the game normally instead of being one of the few people that speedruns it, its spammability is not relevant because you simply don't need it at all, you have a lot of better options in the slower paced PvZ1. Chomper is my all time favourite plant and seeing every one bag him really sucks and seeing him finally getting some well deserved credit is pretty neat
tbh chomper was my favorite plant in the pvz franchise. this was mainly cause there was another childhood thing, The Land Before Time, that had a t-rex that was purple and also named Chomper. the coincidence was too much for my child brain, and so i loved both of them. Overall though, i wish chomper was able to be bought with gems or seed packets, because i want him badly
As someone who loved chomper i find him interesting, currently playing reflorished and chomper has been protecting my backlines from pterodactyls and the sewer pips with also supporting in mid game, especially after the buff they gave them. I find it nice that people are enjoying chomper
Your "utility" example for chomper is the same use as potato mine and most of it's clones. You can delay killing zombies until later, by placing this "instant plant" down that will kill zombies without damaging them until they get really close to your house. So as "cute" as your little lightbulb moment was, now you have the problem of justifying chomper compared to potato mine clones instead of justifying chomper compared to chomper clones. Chomper is more expensive, and the fact that it sticks around after insta-killing can actually be a detriment if you need that space. As for the DPS on chomper's bite, that just makes it a premium clone of bonk choy, but there are tons of bonk choy clones that are far more broken due to them including stall in their kits, or having far more AOE damage. And if you're dealing with special zombies that can attack or disable plants from range, chomper becomes outright useless. It also is mandatory to use with walls or stalls, which undoes it's abnormally low recharge time by forcing it to rely on the long recharge time of walls or stalls necessary to protect it while it kills tough zombies.
ive always loved chomper early game and especially in combination with high DPS plants because it can just clear out a big chunk of zombies in levels where snapdragon isnt viable with the zombies having high hp and for the early game placing it completely holds a lane rather than spending lots of sun on a strong defense or getting a weaker one that you have to replace later
When I started modding pvz1, I thought chomper sucked and buffed him to (iirc) 75 sun 50 sec eating, and quickly I realized that I was using him completely wrong. It made me reconsider chomper and an insta that recharges itself, which is pretty solid. Since then, for the past 2 years I've been a solid chomper enjoyer. BTW, that mod ended up settling with a 100 sun 60 second eat time chomper I think. It worked out pretty good for pvz1.
In PVZ1 I personally enjoy using chomper as a wall late game. He can get the durability he needs from the pumpkin, and his high damage can deal with most high value targets. if you have a powerful enough attacking force, then the only things getting to the wall should be high priority targets, which chomper will take care of instantly.
This has nothing to do with the video, but I VERY much appreciate you putting the song list in the description. More folks need to do that. Love the content!
Finally someone that thinks, Chomper is good did you know that if Chomper eats a chicken regular or a weasel hoarder they won’t spawn the chickens or weasels
Man, i didn't expect you will make a video about realible way to use chomper. I am happy this plan get some appreciation after being bullied from 2009 till now.
I don't even play plants vs zombies anymore, but oh boy do i love watching your video essays on some controversial topics like: "why plant x is actually awesome although majority of players think it's not." Or "why the plant y is total garbage". The pure reasoning behind those videos is just stunning. And your voice is also really cool and calming. Thanks for the content.
I'm on the autism spectrum and have been playing pvz since I was 5. The main reason why chomper is my fav plant and the plant that I main in Garden Warfare was primarily due to his looks (if something looked cool, I'd like it). But I find it really interesting to see chomper getting some different recognition. NIce job! :)
When I first went through modern day, I didn’t know the all-star Usain Bolted his way across the lawn. I also didn’t think Chomper could take him out in time. But he did. This was also the first time I saw chomper’s buff. Happiest Pvz2 player that day.
THE ONLY niche chomper has in pvz1 is on laddering ( a practice where it makes imps climb the pumpkins instead of fixing the pumpkins) on survival roof levels (especially the endless version, which is only in the limbo page of the more ways to play). You cant spikeweed there so chomper does it. Yes he eats that machine whole
Kinda crazy that this is coming out just as I’m starting a chomper-only playthrough of PvZ1 (“chomper-only” as in I only kill zombies with them. I can still use sun producers and stalling plants)
@@gammaf1365 It was a lot easier than I'd expected. Since I can use puffshroom and sunflower spam, I could easily get enough sun to start spamming chompers. Funnily enough, the only times I was in a bit of trouble in the first 2/3 of the game was in the first few levels, especially in 3-Wave levels. This is because tankier zombies like cone and bucket heads can't spawn, so the game instead spawns tons of basic zombies. This would cause me to lose a few rows of chompers from not being able to keep up with the influx of zombies even when spamming chompers off cooldown, but ultimately it was still not _that_ bad. Fog levels were somewhat interesting since Chompers can't chomp Balloon zombies. The Cactus plant needs to be used as a single-use plant and dug immediately after it pops the balloon. While technically you can argue that popping them over the pool counts as killing them, I'm not patient enough to brute force the RNG to get no balloons over the pool. While most conveyer-belt levels obviously don't count since they can't get chompers, I did try to beat 5-5 (the bungee zombie level) without using the cherry bombs and it ultimately proved too much for me. Would be cool to see someone else figure out if it's really possible tho. Roof levels started out being pretty easy since nothing really counters Chomper and they can oneshot basketball zombies, but eventually I ran into my first Gargantuar. Gargantuars are unkillable by Chompers. There's no way to beat a level with a Gargantuar in it if you only kill things with Chompers. The compromise I made to make the run completable was to allow mowers to kill them. After I made that compromise, the game was relatively easy.
@@kreeperkiller4423 In most challenges, the lawn mowers are a requirement so it's not big deal. And if you aren't RCCH, no need waste your life save scumming for rng
i always just use the chomper as a single target mine, basically just drop it to kill specific zombie and pull out, since the thing recharge so fast, i can keep spamming it without oding the cringe chomper defense line like 99% other players did
I love Chomper, is my favorite plant, I've use it on almost all my decks on PVZ1 and unfortunatly never use him in 2 because I was offended that they made me pay for my boy, besides of, ofcourse, being a jobless kid at the time. Perhaps I'll start PVZ2 again and buy it to wreck havok with Chomper in that game.
In pvz1 I get twin sunflowers down then spam chompers and it works because you can replace chompers that are eating, but you can use eating chompers as small walls
I think in pvz1, chomper especially shines in bobsled bonanza. He makes the minigame actually kinda easy. This is because he swallows the bobsleds whole (including all four zombies). Which really helps in the early game. -And uh, in a really cool mod somebody made, he's actually even better due to being able to one shot all zombies minus gargs and balloons.- Because you don't really do GW, I decided I'll throw in my thoughts on him in that game (I don't play GW2 so it's based on GW1). My opinion on him there is that he's really fun. Im not really sure on his effectiveness, but he is really fun once you get good at him. He has the ability to one shot other players, but you have to bite them in a very specific spot, which is right behind them, meaning the other players just have to turn around to counter it. He's also able to do it from a burrow. But one shotting isn't his only specialty, his basic bite can be pretty strong, and he has the highest healthpool out of any plant. His goop can be great for support and spikeweeds are great for preventing attacks on the garden. His unlocks are pretty fun too. Fire/electric/chomp thing have a rapid fire attack at the costbof making swallows harder (I think), count chompula heals upon a swallow, and hot rodder gets a massive speed boost upon a swallow. And then there's chester chomper.... -uh, what does he do again?- Anyway there's random fun facts from YoshiCraft64 #13/0
@@hahant-expertatunfunnycont9713 Chester's gimmick is although he has less health than normal chomper, he has the fastest digestion time making him better for picking off stragglers due to being able to move on to the next target even faster, at the cost of having a less likely survival against someone like an All-star or Scientist. 25 health can make a big difference
Normally the configuration i do involves, Sun producing far rear, any form of range 2 rows, chomp chomps, range, nut. While the chomps are slow if it manages to get pass one of the nuts. Then its most certainly isn't gonna last long for the zombie, always ends up working since chomp chomp will pretty much eat anything. That and when chomp eats it nut will probably be ready to be placed again with chomp pretty much done with its meal.
This is what I use unpowered nightshade for aswell, it’s a lot less effective then chomper but it’s cheap free to play option that can nearly insta kill a garg with a plant food (with a staller it can kill the garg on its own) The example I always use is greatest hits where garg spam is going to happen at some point 15 seconds into a level, it’s very nice that I have a cheap option to deal a massive amount of damage with a plant food (and even without plant food it’s very solid damage for the cost)
chomper although is pretty soild, is still outclassed by a lot of plants in pvz2 so its not used a lot. as soon as i heard the melody at 8:36 i knew i have heard it before. it's my first time watching your videos and i can't belive you used insaniquarium deluxe soundtrack
For reference, Bonk Choy punches once every 0.4 seconds for 15 damage. That's 37.5 DPS. Chomper's 200 bite damage per 1.5 seconds is 166.6 DPS, over 4 times more. Never realized bite damage did so much. It's arguably better than using it to instakill. ... Still not worth spending money on, though.
Chomper is free in Pvz2 China And not only that you get his level 4 for free which makes him activate plant food when placed at high probability. And you could gacha him upto level 5 where he gets an aoe attack that deals massive damage. .
I used Chomper a LOT in PvZ 1, And the most problematic specials were the dancer and the jumping zombies. The rest chomper could handle just as well as any other plant.
I play the pvz 2 Chinese edition and in that game there are normal mode levels and hard levels. Well in the hard versions of the levels the zombies have a ton more HP. So chomper gets a ton of value per bite even at level 1 adding a ton of Frontline damage.
@@petrikhorr i mean, why won't i use it instead of Chomper? I love him, but Electric Blueberry basically better cuz it can oneshot many zombies without limits.
For pv1 (I use mobile edition) chopper can be very op because of the shovel. You see in pv1 chomper has a good recharge time like you stated time compared to other plants (I think about as fast as a peashooter if I remember correctly) because of this if you have a lot of sun (which is what I have most of the time) you can place a chomper to instantly eat a zombie like a buckethead, then immediately shovel it, then immediately , place another one. It is extremely overpowered if you play it like that.
ik in pvz1 i did a little sily against ladder zombies with chomper using pumpkin. basically put chomper in a pumpkin and let the ladder zombie make chomper invincible. simple and pretty funny.
I just got to PvZ2 and I found out that Chomper is now free (unlockable, got a stockpile of seed packets of Pay-locked plants). I wondered if the eating speed improved and boy it did indeed.

Today is a good for Chomper fans like myself
As the #1 Chomper Fan, I really appreciate this video. I LOVE chomper, and was so sad everyone talked trash about him
Man, i didn't expect you will make a video about realible way to use chomper. I am happy this plan get some appreciation after being bullied from 2009 till now.
Next video: Nightshade is Actually OP
it's kinda perfect that you're using chomper in the jurassic levels ngl
I don't even play plants vs zombies anymore, but oh boy do i love watching your video essays on some controversial topics like: "why plant x is actually awesome although majority of players think it's not." Or "why the plant y is total garbage". The pure reasoning behind those videos is just stunning. And your voice is also really cool and calming. Thanks for the content.
I found chomper really satisfying when "Low Tides" happen, as it just straight up DENY those zombies from advancing
❤
I'm on the autism spectrum and have been playing pvz since I was 5. The main reason why chomper is my fav plant and the plant that I main in Garden Warfare was primarily due to his looks (if something looked cool, I'd like it). But I find it really interesting to see chomper getting some different recognition. NIce job! :)
5:36. Watcher knight flashbacks
I always loved chomper idk why
我也同意,我觉得它很特别
My brother also love chomper
Because he's purple and he's effective.
He has gone insane
I remember arguing with you in a live about Chomper, I was saying its good but you strongly disagreed, seeing this gives me inner peace
the insaniquarium music just hit me like a truck. ah the nostalgia
Kinda crazy that this is coming out just as I’m starting a chomper-only playthrough of PvZ1 (“chomper-only” as in I only kill zombies with them. I can still use sun producers and stalling plants)
how did it went lmao
Banana Launcher vs Winter Melon, battle of the expensive, but destructive plants!
i don't play pvz2, but in pvz1, you just gotta have multiple rows of chompers with no walls
TYSM FOR LETTING PEOPLE KNOW CHOMPER AINT BAD (chomper is an example of when people focus on the negative to much and not on positive)
I think chester's just a skin
@@hahant-expertatunfunnycont9713 Chester's gimmick is although he has less health than normal chomper, he has the fastest digestion time making him better for picking off stragglers due to being able to move on to the next target even faster, at the cost of having a less likely survival against someone like an All-star or Scientist. 25 health can make a big difference
6:48 ohmmmmm.hmmmm...........
Peashooter in ECLISE hmmmm.....
has 3 second recharge (so as bonk choy)
Normally the configuration i do involves, Sun producing far rear, any form of range 2 rows, chomp chomps, range, nut. While the chomps are slow if it manages to get pass one of the nuts. Then its most certainly isn't gonna last long for the zombie, always ends up working since chomp chomp will pretty much eat anything. That and when chomp eats it nut will probably be ready to be placed again with chomp pretty much done with its meal.
Thank god they saved my boy Chomper from being crucifed
Finally someone who sees the “instant plant” qualities of him. I used him as an insta multiple times in pvz1.
I never thought of him as that bad, he’s pretty decent due to him eating 2 zombies before reload instead of 1
This is what I use unpowered nightshade for aswell, it’s a lot less effective then chomper but it’s cheap free to play option that can nearly insta kill a garg with a plant food (with a staller it can kill the garg on its own)
The example I always use is greatest hits where garg spam is going to happen at some point 15 seconds into a level, it’s very nice that I have a cheap option to deal a massive amount of damage with a plant food (and even without plant food it’s very solid damage for the cost)
chomper although is pretty soild, is still outclassed by a lot of plants in pvz2 so its not used a lot.
as soon as i heard the melody at 8:36 i knew i have heard it before. it's my first time watching your videos and i can't belive you used insaniquarium deluxe soundtrack
The only high cost, low recharge insta aside from chomper that comes to mind is good ol’ guacodile
what i hate about chomper in pvz2 is that he takes too long to bite a zombie compared to pvz1
I really like chomper as a support plant but I know its really weak by itself. The fact that you are making this video made me really happy😀😃😁
9:08 imp got sent to the shadow realm
great video 👍
I think this was supposed to be posted on April 1st
An instant plant that doesn't disapear once it does it's job, unlike cherry bomb or jalapeno, it's complicated to use
I always liked how he literally chews thru collosal foes, even though his central mechanic is instakilling smaller targets.
Chomper is free in Pvz2 China
And not only that you get his level 4 for free which makes him activate plant food when placed at high probability.
And you could gacha him upto level 5 where he gets an aoe attack that deals massive damage.
.
I used Chomper a LOT in PvZ 1,
And the most problematic specials were the dancer and the jumping zombies.
The rest chomper could handle just as well as any other plant.
I use chomper then ahead of him nut as counter to jumping zombie
@@staanislaw yeah,
The jumping zombies are easily countered
It's just that other plants are better at dealing with them when you're on the backfoot.
Chomper + any wall is one of the easiest strategies to think of, the only ones easier to think of are obvious (like any peashooter + torchwood)
I play the pvz 2 Chinese edition and in that game there are normal mode levels and hard levels. Well in the hard versions of the levels the zombies have a ton more HP. So chomper gets a ton of value per bite even at level 1 adding a ton of Frontline damage.
"Boring, but practical" is a good way to put it, I think.
Green peachomper and the solar frog: sure , sure 🗿🗿
I was listening intently till tank 3 insaniquarium ost played. God daym the nostalgia trip that hit me blanked me out for a sec
So what I'm getting from this is that Chomper has the same battle role as Guacodile, but is useful in a very different kind of level.
...why won't i just use blueberry?
blasphemy
@@Tom-rd8dd?
because using more than one plant is interesting and fun
@@petrikhorr i mean, why won't i use it instead of Chomper?
I love him, but Electric Blueberry basically better cuz it can oneshot many zombies without limits.
@@user-yo1im9pi8zblue berry attacks random zombies it most likely not gonna hit the one you want.
Can you do tiger grass cause i got a bias for it being just godly
Love the Insaniquarium music just before 9 minutes, hardly see it mentioned between all the PVZ love
These guys even give a certain plumber trouble.
I don't hate chomper, it's just he's premium. I mean, I could buy him but choosing between him and toadstool?
Creeps please, a squid is not the same as an octopus...
When I saw the plant packets without the level up indicator nostalga hit me like a semi-truck
Yay Chomper is usable!
as a pvz3 fan I can confirm we do not exist
Ngl I really enjoyed using Chomper while going through pvz2 for the first and see it as a pretty good plant.
the buff of letting them eat 3 zombies before chewing helped but I'm still not going to bother to get them
ik in pvz1 i did a little sily against ladder zombies with chomper using pumpkin. basically put chomper in a pumpkin and let the ladder zombie make chomper invincible. simple and pretty funny.
I audibly exclaimed "WOO! new creeps20!" Take from that as you will.
I just got to PvZ2 and I found out that Chomper is now free (unlockable, got a stockpile of seed packets of Pay-locked plants). I wondered if the eating speed improved and boy it did indeed.
yey funny tem man posted
No but really you have made PVZ2 mods much more fun for me with the revelation of sunflower Frontline
I was just thinking about how no one talks about chompers great early game. Plant really isn’t all too bad all things considered.
I have barely any idea of PVZ meta, but I love chomper and I think it's cool
wake up babe creeps20 made a new pvz plant analyzing video
You know looking at samen's mods where zombies have doubled and tripled health i started seeing the value of OHKO plants
He is kinda like cabbage-pult where others do his job better but he still has purpose
I appreciate the olive pit in the thumbnail too
the ability to ignore zombie hp or most of it helps the viability of some plants greatly
@@andrewgreeb916 lobbing does that too tho, it ignores directional obstacles and armor (screendoor, excavator)
I genuinely didn't know Chomper had a negative reputation, the little bit I've played of Plants Vs Zombies it was among my favorites.
This hungry ass mf has saved my life and inmense amount of times, i worship the chomper as a god.
