Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis / Cold War Assault will never be topped. That title has just so much charm, but i am happy they are updating this and bringing it more to what they wanted, especially if it is supposed to be a bridge towards future Arma 4. Graphically probably the most photo realistic or believable and not just because it is aiming to be, but really nailing the lighting.
The sound is pretty crazy too even without the mods, the fact you can track sumone across the map just following gunshots or explosions is crazy. And I gotta say the render distance on xbox seems crazy I've never played a console game where 1000+ meters in any direction are actually rendered in and accurate it blew me away to actually see my shot land clear across the map on top of one of the mountains.
Reforger when the day goes into night and full pitch black are insane. The lighting with vehicles, bullets etc are stunning in Reforger. When reforger works, it works beautifully but servers and lag is a big issue

People are just having plain fun, no toxicity what so ever. It's just great to see the community back like this. This is the exact reason why Arma is truly my favorite game, it's not about the game but the friends and memories you make with it.

Every is losing it over GZW, but to anyone thinking of playing that, just play Arma Reforger. Its honestly so much better. Its not quite the tarkov-esque experience, with traders and quests, but playing a conflict server, getting a helo pickup into the obj, its pretty similar. Ive had more fun on reforger than ive had on squad or HLL, something about banding together with 6 dudes, raiding towns for weapons and gear to take on the obj, convoying and land navigation, it's just fun as hell.

It’s been two years since it was launched on Steam in early access, and its still lacking basic content that Arma 3 had on its launch date. Two of the major criticisms I have seen are the performance (BI hyped up the new engine technology, and yet for many players it struggles to get acceptable frame rate just like A3), and the lack of content. The community gives BI a lot of slack since the title was supposed to be the “test bed for A4” and a spinoff, but the development struggles have made me skeptical that they will be any different than other AAA companies who fail to deliver the expectations they set.
Not to mention, two years to implement AI taking cover? If this is a sign for how long the development cycle is for such a mechanic, I do not have a good feeling about A4’s AI.
3:00 That's what games like Dragon's Dogma 2 could have been & felt like mini Lord of the Ring quests, meeting new people & forming new relationships. Games made today almost expect people to have a community or 4+ friends who all game at the exact same time. Very cool finally seeing more people gravitating towards these sorts of games.
Join up on a modern combat mod server with mods like "the bacon loadout editor". Really makes getting (and staying kitted) way easier between respawns and matches on the same server. Plus, the modern combat mod additions add loads of new factions, vehicles, and weapons to choose from. MY favorite thing to do right now is loading up the truck of a truck with extra RPG rounds and land mines, then finding a nice road between active objectives to setup ambushes to slow enemy reinforcements. Reforger is a nice mix between the combat of Squad while applying the down time and immersion of something like DayZ. Getting stranded out in the wilderness with the boys, while sometimes frustrating, can still be loads of fun. Wondering what's over the next knoll or hedgerow as you slowly wander towards gunfire just adds to the experience. P.S. stealing an enemy radio and setting up an ambush while "calling in for help cause my jeep crashed" is so damn fun
I think there are shorter gamemodes in the vanilla game but the other half of Arma is the mods and milsim units, doing pve or pvp or pvpve OPs is a lot of fun
Just started playing Reforger last week after years away forma ARMA... and I felt in love again with the series. Its ALL the same as the original OFP, but better, modernized, fresh and Fun. Im loving It, even withiout mods. ARMA 4 Will be great

I used to watch your bf3 videos when I was young. You showed me a lot of the techniques I still use today. Like never shooting from the same spot twice rather hit em left then right. Still works today.
It's cool to see you get the hang on the basics. Conflict has a lot going on and it's easy to get lost in the details. Some basics to keep in mind: The purple marked bases on the map are win points. Get 5 and you start the countdown. 5 minutes to hold, but you also only need to start a capture to break the timer. Radio coverage wins or breaks games. If you have solid logistics and are capping bases and putting up towers you can blitz into the map, if you don't put up towers you don't gain spawns, you lose Intel, and you can't cap further in. Likewise having backup towers on different points helps keep coverage if you lose signal. Supply points are all over the map (little green boxes on the map) you can also find hidden stashes, and veteran players will have sources they might share with you... If you ask. always drive with supply if you can. It costs 275 to put up a tower, and most of the time you can float that with a loaded (covered) UAZ with Humvees holding up to 300. Rank gives you access to more cool stuff like AI tents, command trucks(spawn point), and helis. Bigger structures hold more supply. Bases max at 500 with nothing, but can hold way more with just med tent or Vic yard. As a defender try to minimize your cost by using default kit. Build up logical defenses that give you cover so you don't get camped. Most structures including bunkers have spawns, but often have little cover. Spread out bunkers and your radio to lower your chance of getting camped, and put up big netting to break line of sight or use it to give some concealment to your armoury.
Love the mods for this game it has gotten way better over time like the vietnam 67 and dark gru ukrainian servers are so fun also good chill fam pve servers as well
I would've played ARMA 3 more if it had decent controller support. I know you can bind a controller but the UI is not friendly for it what so ever. Reforger feels great on controller.
I found a primarily PvE group to play with that has been awesome in Reforger! It gives me that op realism (to an extent) while still having a casual fix. Our ops can last anywhere between an hour to 4 hours some nights depending on how big our GM’s want to make the experience.
Watching this just gave me flash backs to Operation Flashpoint back in the day. So nostalgic watching everything visually just updated from that original game.
To be honest the game mode sounds more so like PlanetSide 2 so that sounds interesting. Also after watching this video I feel this would be a perfect replacement for me Insurgency Sandstorm after the whole Embracer debacle
Broo you gotta get it, I like insurgency too but this is levels ahead in realism imo, there's a modded server called darkgru and they mod in all types of different real world conflicts plenty of movie scene moments even for the most relaxed or docile player. Me and my boy wonkyaim who I randomly met in a field went to take over an objective we killed 8 players together and as we're celebrating mid sentence as he's saying bro we did it I can't believe it bragging on the radio to the platoon that we two man capped a heavy contested point he gets shot in the face by a Russian we only knocked out because his armor caught the bullets 😂😂😂 rip wonkyaim I watched my boy die in front of me
Honestly, ArmA is not even about the specific game mode you are playing. ArmA 4 (which Reforger is like a stepping stone to test the engine for that one) has to be a good sandbox, if you like more battlefield like experiences or even deathmatch type gamemodes you'll should be able to get that, but for me is all about the long campaign style game modes with progression, like Antistasi, where you spends weeks playing to conquer an entire map with your friends.
same, the only reason I havent gotten reforger is because antistasi devs said that they refuse to work on reforger cuz arma 4 is going to come soon enough that it doesnt make sense for them to work in reforger, I understand but also pain, I would love antistasi in reforger

I played a lot of arma 2 and arma 3. love those games. havent played reforger yet. was waiting for arma 4 but maybe ill play this while waiting for star citizen
arma needs to have a war mode similar to how foxhole works, so the war itself goes for a week or two and whoever controls the most of the map at the end of that week wins. that seems super logical to me.
I tried it out for a bit and really love the upgrades from ArmA 3. But I'm more of a singleplayer person, so I'm just waiting for ArmA 4. If that is just Reforger with bigger maps and an interesting story campaign, I'll be happy!
Just started playing a few days ago and absolutely loving it! Great game wirh friends. You can actually play and work together, not like Battlefield where everyone is running around solo rushing into enemies after 10 minutes
Bought into it last week. First mil-sim. On Xbox X and I get 30fps on high and 60fps on low. It’s a big learning curve coming from years of BF/COD. Not really a game suitable for a solo gaming style. But I am a noob so maybe I’ll get the hang of it.
I think once you commit to talking in game and engaging with people , these type of games really start to click- if your like me and just quietly play without speaking it’s not quite as immersive/fun
I hope Arma Reforger can be the next generation's Arma 2, meaning there will be something similar to "Arrowhead" where it actually unleashed it's full potential.
This game is amazing, has its problems but I can’t help but love it. It’s the game I’ve been looking for and the mods make it have way more to do both base and modded is great
Reforger def brought me back to ARMA after eons away from it. I eventually couldn't care for all the jank in playing ARMA 3 that I left it behind years ago. Reforger did a brilliant job of streamlining so much but still leaving the massive map, details, etc. of ARMA!
It already is on this engine But not the entire game is... and i think it's on a bit older version compared to Reforger Reforger is first game ever that's ENTIRELY on Enfusion engine DayZ is some weird frankenstein hybrid it's a bit complicated But it's sort of is on the same engine
I pledged to it since launch fot the good times i had with operation flashpoint, but never got the hook again, its still as clunky, but when it came out proper ballistics was super engaging long range shooting was matter of controlled bursts and leading. Today i dont feel its as advanced as the first title. You still get godzilla strenght fences and things like that destoy immersion for me. Do like non tracers assault rifles shots. Thx for the heads up.
This is my first Arma game, Im comming from squad/hll/pr and prev. from bf series and let me tell you - Im completly in love with this game. Super hyped for Arma 4.
I haven't played ARMA in years.. still have it installed and over 1,600 hours in the game.. I loved KOTH. So much fun. Been happy with Hell Let Loose and SQUAD but.. I still miss ARMA in some ways.. I've been keeping an eye on Reforger and it's looked appealing.
I'm also a big fan of koth. And the reforger version of koth is definitely worth checking out. it's constantly improving and it's a decent amount of fun.
not only that ,console players can play moded servers also,they put mod downloader in game ,so if you want to join moded server its gona download for you ,its really great ,im happy that console players can play this gem of game ,there is already bunch of private servers with diffrent stuffs to do
I think they are finally making the engine that would have made dayz 2.0 really amazing, there will eventually be servers with base building and a more "mmo" experience or walking simulator if you prefer , ill pick it up then for sure , but chances are thats a year or two off
Are you ever gonna review VR games like Onward? Communication-wise as well as gun-mechanic wise, especially if you use a Glistco stock, it's the most realistic milsim I've played

Are there PvE mods with a manageable (under 1 hour) missions or some sort of a more of open-ended experience? I don't have 5 hours to play continuously, but I really love the game.
U should try modded reforger, for example serhivka conflict, they have cobras with rockets and modern guns, a lot of fun to make an ambush on a road exiting enemies base

The last good milsim coop game I ever played and had fun with was Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising. I miss a more traditionally designed coop campaign
The way the spawn system works in reforger gives it OG dayZ mod vibes. Dont fancy running for 20 minutes again? maybe dont take that engagement, or at least plan it out. I love the fear of life feeling that this game brings.

The hours long matches are indeed on purpose. We have enough Battlefield/COD games. Arma is meant to be played for hours, and actually the community is hoping for these matches to start lasting for days/weeks/months (real time). Stop thinking in terms of "Rounds" and start thinking in terms of "Servers". The game won't end until one side wins, entirely. Meaning, you play for a while, leave, and come back the next day and see that your team has either done well and gained, or done poorly and lost a lot of ground. It helps to mimic the realities of war, you don't win in a day.
I’m just waiting for a PS5 release😭🙏🏼 PS5 needs this type of game. I lost interest in both COD and Battlefield and even starting to lose Planet side 2 console edition.. Would love Arma Reforger to drop for the PS5 as well
Well, I've played all the Armas, especially Arma 3. I keep thinking of getting this, but then draw back at the last minute. Why? I have a limited budget, and Arma 4 will be coming in the not too distant future. A very persuasive video, though.

My statement that Arma 4 WILL be coming out in the not too distant was a bit too positive, and based on SOME evidence and SOME wishful thinking. I neglected to say that I'm an editor nut (Eden more than Zeus), and haven't seen evidence for a really comprehensive and satisfying one in Reforger. A little less crap going on with work right now and I might treat myself to this anyway.
Reforger is what every modern FPS title wants to be put it actually pulls it off. Once you play Reforger trying to go back to Squad is complete pain. It makes you realize why Squads always such a disorganized mess of CQC players indefinitely blaming new players for the lack of cohesion. Armas always made it clear that if you want serious gameplay you need serious unforgiving mechanics. Not infinite spawns, un-killable incaps, straight line push game modes, and hand holding communication mechanics. Reforger doesnt just suggest you play as a team, it leaves you basically helpless if you dont. Squad is ironically too focused on the squad comm mechanics where teamplay means being a selfish squad. Theres no real cohesion between squads and theyre all constantly blaming eachother for failures.
I don't know why, but I just don't have the same experience. Too many disconnects, server pings are too high, and mods cause crashes all the time. I live in Korea, so the servers are usually China servers and suck. I loved Arma 3, wish I could invest more time on this if it was functional. 😢

Arma 2 was the first real GPU melter for me, seeing the huge world and all the NPCs, animals and vehicles, still my favorite too.

I played a lot of arma 2 and arma 3. love those games. havent played reforger yet. was waiting for arma 4 but maybe ill play this while waiting for star citizen

im so proud of arma for delivering the nexgen arma we was looking for. cant wait for arma 4
arma needs to have a war mode similar to how foxhole works, so the war itself goes for a week or two and whoever controls the most of the map at the end of that week wins. that seems super logical to me.
I tried it out for a bit and really love the upgrades from ArmA 3. But I'm more of a singleplayer person, so I'm just waiting for ArmA 4. If that is just Reforger with bigger maps and an interesting story campaign, I'll be happy!
Just started playing a few days ago and absolutely loving it! Great game wirh friends. You can actually play and work together, not like Battlefield where everyone is running around solo rushing into enemies after 10 minutes
Definitely a game I'm watching, but I already play too many early access games

Bought into it last week. First mil-sim. On Xbox X and I get 30fps on high and 60fps on low. It’s a big learning curve coming from years of BF/COD. Not really a game suitable for a solo gaming style. But I am a noob so maybe I’ll get the hang of it.
That gives me some hope to try it out
I think once you commit to talking in game and engaging with people , these type of games really start to click- if your like me and just quietly play without speaking it’s not quite as immersive/fun
I hope Arma Reforger can be the next generation's Arma 2, meaning there will be something similar to "Arrowhead" where it actually unleashed it's full potential.
This game is amazing, has its problems but I can’t help but love it. It’s the game I’ve been looking for and the mods make it have way more to do both base and modded is great
Reforger def brought me back to ARMA after eons away from it. I eventually couldn't care for all the jank in playing ARMA 3 that I left it behind years ago. Reforger did a brilliant job of streamlining so much but still leaving the massive map, details, etc. of ARMA!
We need a full-blown Battle Royale made in this

DayZ is some weird frankenstein hybrid it's a bit complicated
But it's sort of is on the same engine
I pledged to it since launch fot the good times i had with operation flashpoint, but never got the hook again, its still as clunky, but when it came out proper ballistics was super engaging long range shooting was matter of controlled bursts and leading. Today i dont feel its as advanced as the first title. You still get godzilla strenght fences and things like that destoy immersion for me. Do like non tracers assault rifles shots. Thx for the heads up.
This is my first Arma game, Im comming from squad/hll/pr and prev. from bf series and let me tell you - Im completly in love with this game. Super hyped for Arma 4.

I haven't played ARMA in years.. still have it installed and over 1,600 hours in the game.. I loved KOTH. So much fun. Been happy with Hell Let Loose and SQUAD but.. I still miss ARMA in some ways.. I've been keeping an eye on Reforger and it's looked appealing.
I'm also a big fan of koth. And the reforger version of koth is definitely worth checking out. it's constantly improving and it's a decent amount of fun.
not only that ,console players can play moded servers also,they put mod downloader in game ,so if you want to join moded server its gona download for you ,its really great ,im happy that console players can play this gem of game ,there is already bunch of private servers with diffrent stuffs to do
ArmA 3 has some of the best lighting I’ve ever seen, so it’s no surprise that the lighting is great on this too.
I think they are finally making the engine that would have made dayz 2.0 really amazing, there will eventually be servers with base building and a more "mmo" experience or walking simulator if you prefer , ill pick it up then for sure , but chances are thats a year or two off
Are you ever gonna review VR games like Onward? Communication-wise as well as gun-mechanic wise, especially if you use a Glistco stock, it's the most realistic milsim I've played
You mentioned console and I just wanted to say that if you turn your settings to low on a series X, you can run at 60fps consistently
Not comparing the Two but this is why I absolutely LOVE playing Enlisted. Felt more mil-sim than it’s contemporary and gave me more BF feelings that BF has in recent years.
Are there PvE mods with a manageable (under 1 hour) missions or some sort of a more of open-ended experience? I don't have 5 hours to play continuously, but I really love the game.

Now you need to play the modded servers
U should try modded reforger, for example serhivka conflict, they have cobras with rockets and modern guns, a lot of fun to make an ambush on a road exiting enemies base
Arma Reforger is so unique i would appreciate it NOT being compared to other "milsims."

The last good milsim coop game I ever played and had fun with was Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising.
I miss a more traditionally designed coop campaign
It was fun for a console player. It just was ahead of it's time. It needed more moddable ability for the console and more dlc. As it got repetitive.
The way the spawn system works in reforger gives it OG dayZ mod vibes. Dont fancy running for 20 minutes again? maybe dont take that engagement, or at least plan it out. I love the fear of life feeling that this game brings.
The modded Vietnam servers are my favorite on this game

The hours long matches are indeed on purpose. We have enough Battlefield/COD games. Arma is meant to be played for hours, and actually the community is hoping for these matches to start lasting for days/weeks/months (real time). Stop thinking in terms of "Rounds" and start thinking in terms of "Servers". The game won't end until one side wins, entirely. Meaning, you play for a while, leave, and come back the next day and see that your team has either done well and gained, or done poorly and lost a lot of ground. It helps to mimic the realities of war, you don't win in a day.

Well, I've played all the Armas, especially Arma 3. I keep thinking of getting this, but then draw back at the last minute. Why? I have a limited budget, and Arma 4 will be coming in the not too distant future. A very persuasive video, though.
Based on what information you think that Arma 4 is gonna be out soon? I mean… some youtubers said that, but when you go through all info from BI directly, then no real info really indicates that. It is just viral disinformation based on no data.

My statement that Arma 4 WILL be coming out in the not too distant was a bit too positive, and based on SOME evidence and SOME wishful thinking. I neglected to say that I'm an editor nut (Eden more than Zeus), and haven't seen evidence for a really comprehensive and satisfying one in Reforger. A little less crap going on with work right now and I might treat myself to this anyway.

I need a PvE mode to mess around in, there's nothing on console when you wanna play something like this.
Reforger is what every modern FPS title wants to be put it actually pulls it off. Once you play Reforger trying to go back to Squad is complete pain. It makes you realize why Squads always such a disorganized mess of CQC players indefinitely blaming new players for the lack of cohesion. Armas always made it clear that if you want serious gameplay you need serious unforgiving mechanics. Not infinite spawns, un-killable incaps, straight line push game modes, and hand holding communication mechanics. Reforger doesnt just suggest you play as a team, it leaves you basically helpless if you dont. Squad is ironically too focused on the squad comm mechanics where teamplay means being a selfish squad. Theres no real cohesion between squads and theyre all constantly blaming eachother for failures.
Can this be played 100% singleplayer vs bots? I wanna super cozy Milsim where I'm the hero lol

I don't know why, but I just don't have the same experience. Too many disconnects, server pings are too high, and mods cause crashes all the time.
I live in Korea, so the servers are usually China servers and suck. I loved Arma 3, wish I could invest more time on this if it was functional. 😢
