Seriously you are the one who inspired me to continue RPG Maker. If not for you, I wouldn't have known how it felt to make a game and have people play it. I'll be taking programming when I go to college for the sole purpose of game developing. If this works, then you literally changed my future.
And? How is it going?
@@sansotv7134 Is it going good?
@luforia is it good or nah?
Oh man...
I'm scared please tell me how it's going
That last tip really got me inspired to believe in my story....
Thanks, dude.
You always end these on such a warm and encouraging note.
Okay, let's be real, though. Toby Fox struck gold with Undertale's combat system and we all wish we had thought of it.
don't be discouraged. We all feel a little envy, but the idea of befriending/treating enemies differently isn't new. From games like Pokemon and Ni No Kuni to Persona which was his inspiration, the idea of treating your "enemies" as friends is certainly not revolutionary, or that monsters/creatures don't have their own personality. It's just that he had good timing, good funding, and a good combination of inspirations :)
thepeanats When I said "combat system", I meant the "bullet hell"-esque idea for battles that he somehow concocted. Yes, the morality idea was good but not necessary novel. The same could be said for the combat system, I suppose, I felt like it was fresher and added a lot more to the game in terms of its actual gameplay.
Joshua Ward oh I'm sorry! I misunderstood you. :3 Yeah, it's pretty fresh compared to the games at the time, but I wouldn't call them groundbreaking ^^" it's more like "how many versions of the same mechanic can we make?" and if you create creatures and personalities for each monster, then it breaks down easier.
I'm not trying to put down toby's work, I just know how gut-wrenching it is when you compare someone else's work to yours. I am an artist, and I've started tinkering with VX Ace, but I feel so influenced by so many games and genres that I'm too insecure to move in my own direction.
+thepeanats No worries about the misunderstanding. Also, don't be afraid to move your own direction, maybe try something new or experiment a little bit. It's a necessary part of growing in any creative field. I personally consider myself a writer above all else and I'm constantly challenging myself to come up with new, fresh ideas. However, I do end scrapping most of them (because sometimes you just need to take a step back and say "this is isn't working") but that still tells me that I've developed, at least a bit. It's all about finding out what works and what doesn't and sometimes that just takes some good old-fashioned trial and error. Wish you the best of luck in your art and such and I hope that you (and I doubt you'd start doing it immediately) eventually break past that mental barrier of "it's not good enough to even try", because it just might be worth a shot.
Joshua Ward thank you for the kind words! :D I wish you the best of luck as well, I also write. Well, never taken classes, it's just something I enjoyed doing since I was a kid. My first "book" was two A4 pages stapled together with a cover and back blurb, haha! So I know how much stories develop and change and grow with you, and what you wrote years ago can seem alien now.
You're an inspiration to game makers everywhere. I never believed in my game creation skill, and gave up on an engine entirely...until you said you're the only one that can make the game you wanna make, and I don't have to make games the way everyone else wants them. Thank you.
Hey Echo! I've recently started using and exploring RPG Maker MV, and your tutorials and tips have helped me a whole lot! Your message at the end has possibly helped me even more, so thank you so much for that, too. Good luck game-making and video-making in the future!
Stumbled upon this. Gosh, the last time I use RPG Maker to make my own game is like, what? 2004?
And then I went to college and it was left unfinished. Maybe... I should try my hand on this RPG maker thingies again? hmmm...
I'd say go for it, it's a lot of fun I find
I adore your videos, they've really been inspiring me to continue work on all the projects I sort of abandoned. Keep up the fantastic work!
Wow, the end of this video blew my mind. I just remembered why I started making games to begin with. To be honest, you just told me exactly what I needed to hear at exactly the moment that I needed to hear it and I'm speechless.
I don't even use RPG Maker. I just watch your videos because your voice is like having chocolate cake shoved in your ears.
I am a user, but I couldn't agree more!!
Dean F. Sounds uncomfortable but that's a legit reason.
echo kinda sounds like MoonKitti
D F how?! I watch your videos because they're useful, but her voice drives me insane!
I use VX Ace, but these are still helpful. And her voice is kinda adorable.
I discovered your channel very recently and as a veteran of the RM (since 2007), I must say how touching to me was yours words regarding the last hint, all those years but that never came into my mind, thank you so much!
Thank you so much for the tip on fixing mass spelling errors. I had a word that I left lower case for my entire game that should have been capitalized and this made fixing it so easy! You're the best!
Thanks for tip 5 Echo. We all hit those moments and need to hear it!
I find your "don't give up" talk to be the best part of your vids tbh. This is sooo complicated and my "RPG MAKER" bookmarks list is getting huge. I think I've watched just 8 hours of videos today alone and havent even made a map yet. Last time I touched RPG maker was that japanese rip of rpg maker 2k a loooong time ago.
You give such heartfelt and inspiring advice about just starting out and the necessity of practice. I appreciate your videos so much; they give me motivation ;-;
I am proud of the game I am working on. I will continue to learn and to get better as i go. :) Thanks Echo :)
The games you make have a certain art style to it. It has this nice charm. I like it!
Great Tutorials Echo i'm loving MV on Switch it's pretty much My Dream RPG Maker!
Hearing those words really cheered me up, and a size note, my game started on a piece of paper back in the first grade, it has evolved since then, and it keeps evolving, so far, it’s just written down stuff, and artwork, but your right, my game is my game, and it’s how I tell my story, my way... 😁
Just came for my daily Echo motivational speech to keep me working hard. Thanks Echo
9:00 this hit me right in the heart, thank you.
“If this at all piques your interest, be sure to check out the rest!”
Eh, maybe.
“Under UI, you can change the programs color scheme.”
THIS PIQUES MY INTEREST.
Thanks for that final message, Echo. I've been watching your videos to see how I can improve more. Then your last message hit me. I don't have the tendency to compare my work with others' works, but I do have the tendency to give up when things get really difficult. But when I started this game project of mine I committed to myself that I'm going to see this through the end.
A lot of developers out there can make great games and do lots of stuff, but no one else is going to make the game in my head the way I really want it! ^___^
The last tip is great. I bought VX Ace recently and am considering on a Sailor Moon RPG but i've yet to play more RPG to work out the mechanics and story line but I can't wait what the next few years have in store. Great work on your videos, Echo!
That last tip goes for everything, really. Whether you're a musician, an actor, an artist, game developer.
Probably the best life tip in general
"Without going into crazy voice acting" *laughs in fully voiced game with hundreds of tall sprite npcs"
I love your videos @Echo607 I've just begun with rpg maker and you've been a great help. Thanks so much for making these videos. :)
I was getting depressed and you just helped me alot now, Thank you so much. I love you
Thanks for that last one, it made me a feel whole lot better
Thank you. c:
The artstyle of your game is really cool!
The last tip made me cry so much and made me feel seen and that touches me a lot. Do you have more tips or whole videos like that? I need that so much.
I feel the best large widescreen resolution is 1280x720, it's nice, large/small enough, and it's not laggy!
Lwiri totally agree
I personally use 920x540, it's the smallest I can go and I feel the smaller you can reasonably go, the better when it comes to RPG Maker.
It's not 16:9 but it works.
All your vidéos are so good and motivating ! Great job and continue like that !
Great video... especially the encouragement at the end... I'm a long-time game PLAYER, and now I have children of my own, so I'm starting to make them. :) This is great knowledge and encouragement for all. Well done!
Tip 5 really spoke to me. I have a friend from school who constantly tells me 'openness is key' or calls me a railroader because the main character in my game isn't customizable, or that you can only enter certain areas at certain times.. so hearing tip 5 spoke to me a lot in a way. thank you.
Thanks Echo, between you and Yanfly I've been making excellent progress!
Last Tip was the best tip everybody can take to his/her heart.
I stopped playing games for a while just because I thought that I could never make something as good as that
your last tip really helped me put a few years ago thanks
Honestly I Love This series great job Echo
I appreciate your patience with doing these videos. Thank you! :)
Nice, nice things you said at the end of your video. Makes a lot of sense.
you are a badass. Thank you for helping the community the way you do.
This is why I love Echo's videos so much. The inspiration to never give up. I wish she'd start posting again, I guess she's working on Gaia's Melody HD or something?
Aww! This was honestly amazing! Really helped me get motivated! Thanks!
You are so inspirational and motivating, I love it.
great video, great personality, and great example game you made after all your hard work. it really stands apart from most of the rpg maker games ive seen. subbed.
I watched your tutorial about parallax mapping and have to say it now...
your voice is lovely :)
thank u for your tutorials. they are realy helpfull :)
Personally, the only thing I would look at a other game,
is what they did bad, so that I could avoid it.
Never had a problem creating stories. Think of something
stupid and present it in a somewhat logical way :-P
I like your attitude XD
Come up with something crazy and see how you can roll with it.
You made me cry with the last tip.
I really needed to listen this to motivate myself.
Thank you very much.
Love your positivity bro!
Thank you for the tips. Keep doing what you're doing, Echo. :)
This was incredibly inspirational. Thank you very much!
Last tips make me subcribe. The best tips ever.
You are AMAZING!!!! I can't wait to release my new project (which will be my first) and hopefully you get a chance you try it. Keep up the great work and thank you for all the videos and inspiration.
External Text plugins are also really good for when you need to edit your text. It's a bit tedious to do in the first place, but once you have it done it's so much easier to change than going into a map, then and event, then a message box, and editing that.
Dam Echo, why you gotta get me all choked up when all I wanted was just some super important tips and tricks
Cause it's still the most important tip of all xP I know the feeling though heh
You should have a million subs, thank you for the great and informative even inspirational video.
Love the last tip. I started in VX Ace back then in 2013 and made a full 8 hour length game. after that I stopped because I kept on watching other people's works and got envious and frustrated. I did kept saying "I wish I made that game" and other similar stuff. I also kept wishing that I had a background in Java or computer programming or similar stuff but I couldn't because I was a Nurse and I had to work. I do know my passion though and making RPGs is one of them because I know ideas and desires for games pop up into my head and I want to make em. Now its 2017, I have another idea and I want to make a new game. Thanks for giving me a push. :)
"No one will ever create game in your way"Its Truth! No one will NEVER create the story of three Blondes! The Truth is that i gave up with making my own game, becouse i ran of ideas.I was 11 or 12 years old.And when i met you and i saw your videos,i was filled with DETERMINATION to Make my new and ONLY the first complete project.I created my charakters and my sister gaved me permision to put her charakters to my game too.And your tutorials helped me to make my game better!
This is awesome, thank you! Great tips at the end too.
I am extremely new to this stuff. I want to make a game based around a decent Idea I thought up. It's a bit complicated and I even start wondering if I could even do this sort of stuff. But I remembered that nothing comes in an instant. So I should learn more about this and try my best to make the game I want to make. I think I'll be watching your videos more often.
Echo607, keep doing what you are doing. Your the best. I find your tips and video extremely helpful. You keep doing what you doing ma'am, as the people who enjoy and love your work wont use their voice, but the nah sayers with nothing better to do, will. Always watching but some time not commenting, but will thumbs up. 64Nerd
Bout to jump into making a game and these videos are actually helping a lot 030 keep them coming please~
I don't get the impression the emotion/character in your voice is fake, so I've kind of fallen in love with your voice xD It's so cute. Good luck in your work!!
Love these videos :)
You're the best.
Subscribed instantly.
Thank you miss. Very informative.
I love watching your videos. So many good tips! :D
Hey, nice video. I'm amazed by that last sunset view of the vid, and I was wondering : how do you put more animations on your character sprites ? Like the hair blow idle animation or even the running ones ?
Thank you for the video Echo.
That was a nice speech in the end.
You really inspired me to finish my first game thank you :)
yo all your videos be like "yeah so lemme give u tips" and they end like "shit got emotionnal"
Yeah its a bit to much emotional.. I mean its ok to believe in your dreams but you probably don't do a game which is only for you.. you want that other people play it.. but if your game is shit don't waste you're time because nobody is going to play it. RPG Maker has such a bad reputation because of its mass of crap games.. look at Steam Workshop what some people released. I love your tutorials and the adorable voice, but no tip was new for me and as software programmer I know atleast what is possible with the engine and sometimes I struggle and don't know if the game will meet my expectations. What I want to say is, @Echo607 don't make them to much hope.. you are to positive.. with all that emotions they going to believe you :D
I'm going to disagree with you Daniel. Granted Steam probably isn't the place for amateur dev's to release games that lack ...um, "polish". Making a game for yourself is what gives games variety. Making tired lame games that appeal to a lot of people is what EA does. The game I'm currently working on, I'm sure most people wouldn't like it. But its different from anything else you will find and if one other person likes it, that's enough for me. Don't be so pessimistic. Positivity equals motivation, and game making requires a lot of motivation.
sounds like someone has as disposable income. Jokes
@ Daniel H
The point is, Don't give up because your game might not be as good as others, it takes a lot of patience, learning and practice to become better, just like any hobby in life, so keep at it.
Her positive attitude towards this is simply amazing and she is reaching out to the people who simply give up cause they feel they don't measure up to others peoples games.
Some people (like myself) simply make games because they enjoy making them, other people make games to appeal to different audiences, regardless, it requires a lot of work and can feel overwhelming at times causing some people to just give up. So again, Echo's positive attitude is a great motivation boost.
Ugh, I love your laugh as well. And the tips were awesome. Subscribing :3
Your tips and tricks are really, REALLY, REAAAALLLLYYYYY useful. Thank you for sharing it with us!
TIP # 5 is something we should all remind ourselves constantly. Thank you for that reminder. :)
Will you also be posting more tips/tricks/tutorials when it comes to the power of event(ing)?
You are awesome!! I subscribed to you! I also like your voice and the way you talk!! So cool!!
Thanks for the advice. It really make me feel better now :)
So... Are you going to celebrate 10 k? It's been just 3 months since the 5k Q&A and you gained 5000 subs, congrats.
5k in 3 months is a pretty large gain lol xD She deserves ever sub though, great tutorial maker (and helper in general to the RM community)
Nice video Echo! Im from german, but i watch your videos, because I think they are pretty interesting even if I know nearly everything. Please keep up the good work. I wanted to create a similar channel to yours, but there's not much to look at^^. Have a nice day!
I love you so much for making this video!
I like the default resolution. If you want to record it and want it widescreen you can stretch it. It would look fine because it is in a 4:3 Screen Ratio and it is changing into 16:9 Screen Ratio. So as a result, It looks good.
This video is really inspiring.
hey, thanks for all these tricks ! mainly the first one, it litteraly saved my eyes as i was working in the dark XD
just a question : where did you find these wonderful tileset that we can see at the begining of the video ? i just love these but i didn't find them ^^
This was awesome!!
Tip#5 is especially helpful... and oddly timely (even if I only just discovered this video). Thanks for that.
The last tip here is a great one. Have a script, characters, and how I want it to go all fleshed out... I just stink at mapping. I am getting better, but it's just not there yet. I practice making maps when I get a chance and watch others make them. It helps. Still feels blocky to me though.
PSPad, good to know! It will save me a LOT of trouble.
Nice video, Echo!
My first attempt to make a game was so balanced that just one class actually did damage to the monsters, I don't even know why XD
I found it a time ago in a lost folder and I felt so much nostalgia that I took that ideia, worked a LOT on it and I'm remaking a no complete game right now --w--'
I hate balancing.
Balancing, the bane of my existence lol. I'm so glad there are calculators out there now to help with that!
I always fought it was easy, until I tried making a serious project. Right now I'm crying in a corner
David Dev yeah I know that feeling lol. My first few projects failed because they were too ambitious lol. But I have a team now so my current project is coming along nicely. (even though it will end up being pretty large in size and time to finish the gameplay lol)
Tasassinn Interactive Nice! In my case, I still need to figure out WHY THE HECK THE ACTOR DEALS 0 DAMAGE IN THE DAMN SLIME. Where was I? Oh, yeah, pain.
You're so cute with your little laugh and inspirational message at the end.
That last tip was really nice to hear!
I admit... I've struggled with that. I'm going to admit something to you: I'm jealous of you. I'm jealous of the fact that you made a game all by yourself, and an actual good one at that, something that I wish I could have done back then and now. Sure, GM1 has it's problems, and obviously you've improved over the years, but to see something like that made by someone with hardly any skills... I want that talent. I want those eventing skills.
And yet, I'm 23 and I've hardly gotten anything worthwhile made for my game series, not anything worth sending out as a demo to you anyway.
Hi Manegirl. I kinda understand how you feel. Having the talent and skills to make something great seems like it's impossible for us to achieve right now.
However, I want to give you an idea: IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT TALENT.
What do I mean? Echo was not born with extreme talent and just made awesome games in 1 week. No. Echo took her time, learned, and improved her skills with YEARS of practice. That means making a draft, getting criticized, feeling like a failure, wanting to give up...but never did. She never gave up and just kept moving forward. And that's what matters.
I believe you CAN be as good as Echo. I believe you CAN get those eventing skills. If Echo can do it, so can we! We just need to be patient with ourselves, take our time, and learn.
@@Verinius Very true and very well said I would love to hear that you all are that much better considering this is 3 years later im posting this comment.
@@OniMikeVision85 Thank you OniMike :)
Holy fudge your voice is gorgeous
thanks for the confidence boost :)
Good tips as usual! (It's not perfect not by a long shot....heh...I still find it far better than my current rate of improvement on my projects xP) But I enjoy the challenge that comes with it! And thanks to you, I know how to improve it (ever so slowly...heh..eh..heheh...) by making use of my own artistic talents xD (some of which I never would have thought of before watching your tutorials and such)
So, with that said....I'm adding a character for everyone who's helped me make my big project (still WIP lol but yeah it's gonna wind up pretty big overall) better. Since you helped me with the pact linking system (which um...do you know how to tie those state into Yanfly's CTB battle system so it wears off after 5 actions of the character it's tied to?), I figured you wouldn't mind having a character in the game too! Let me know if you have any ideas on your own character xD it can be some crazy idea or generic, I'll work with it and make it something neat heh.
OMG is that your game we see at 3:50 ? It looks so good! is it out to download? I would love to play it and record it for my channel.
You sound like a real pixie :D love it.
ikr. People say her voice is "cringey and annoying" but honestly I like it, but I don't care what it sounds like. Her voice could sound high pitched and annoying as hell, I"d still watch for the content.
I love your voice I can learn so much when you talk thx
I very much appreciate Tip 5 :3
Wow I wish I had a resolution calculator when I first used the core plugin, I literally had to manually change the resolution of my game many times just so it would fit my laptop screen! But very useful video Echo and over the summer I'm going to 'try' and start making custom graphics for my game cause I'm a bit sick of my game looking very default whilst everyone else's looks great like yours:)
If you jump to 2:06 in the video you have an effect I've been trying to find for MZ. I want to have a Large pop-up on the screen when a Quest is given or an important scene ends like you have when an item was received. How is this done? Is there a plugin I get?
Hi Echo! Love your videos! Thank you for putting In the time and effort to make them! I wanted to ask you if it' s possible if you could number your tips and tricks videos, I tend to find , myself not remembering if I saw that one by first glance. If you can put a ex. Tips and Tricks #1 , Tips and a Tricks #2 on your tips and tricks videos that would be awesome! Thanks again!
What program do you usually use for spriting and such? :D
