    Recoil matters on a fusion, it's just that 86 happens to be a very good recoil direction.
    I found out in a Maven video that for some reason, 95 feels worse than 85, so really the only recoil directions that feel truly vertical for most weapons are either 85 or 100. Anywhere between 90 and 99 feels terrible, while 84 and 86 feel pretty close to 85. It sounds hard to believe, but this is something I tested myself after hearing it. You can take a weapon that has 84 without counterbalance, slap a counterbalance to get it to 99, and 99 will pull to one side a shocking amount.
    This is all to say, recoil direction is an even weirder stat than people think it is.
    Also range is definitely the more important stat on fusions, although finding a balance of stability and range is generally wise.

      It's because Bungie has obfuscated the recoil direction and firing pattern again with their "Deterministic recoil."
      The developers were probably a bit mad when we figured out the wave pattern that goes vertical on 5's
