@@gespenst1329 Yeah, but Sonic X was kind of an amalgamation of various concepts. As popular as a certain green haired weed girl from this series is, it's really a weird anime when you think about it.
There were also alot of plotlines that were introduced and seemed important, but were never mentioned again, such as the Eggmoon and the fact that during the Homecoming Saga every element from Sonic's world and every single thing that Tails and Eggman had a hand in building had to be returned there to stop the universe from collapsing, including the artificial half of the moon. So Earth was basically destroyed in Sonic X, and nobody mentions it during the Metarex Saga.

    • @castform7
      @castform7 Před 2 měsíci +6

Eh I don't see the connection. Not the Chaos Emeralds and Dragon Balls, of course those are a reference, but Burning Blaze and the Super Saiyan God. Burning Blaze comes about when Blaze realizes the power of friendship and learns that the Sol Emeralds, even when energy has been sucked from them, can be used positively for power. Goku's SSG comes from the 5 pure hearted Saiyans that were inadvertently made because of his influence giving him that power. I guess there are some vague "friends we made along the way" similarities but nothing too substantial.

The Chaos Emeralds are definitely a Dragon Ball reference (especially with how they fly up and scatter at the end of Sonic 1, though there were only six at the time). Silver's reputation has gotten better after Sonic '06. The comics in particular did a pretty good job with him, and in games like Team Sonic Racing, he's a bit of a lovable dork. Speaking of comics, I don't think it's outright confirmed, but in the IDW Sonic comics, they clearly take some inspiration from the Android Saga with the introduction of Surge and Kit.
Also, dunno if it's mentioned, but there is OK KO: Let's Be Heroes. KO himself takes inspiration from Goku and Rad is probably inspired by Piccolo. I think in the pilot episodes, they even reference the whole powering up thing. I'm 100% sure there's plenty more references within the show too. Heck, one of KO's voice actors was Stephanie Nadolny. I love how Masako has a very specific view of the Dragon Ball franchise that I hold as well, that being that it's such an interesting example of the fact that even literal centuries apart, the continuation of a story, even if just in spirit, is just as influential as it's original work if not more so. It just feels like a existence of spirit and memory and a very unique experience that can't really be had by much others that we know of other than ourselves and a handful of animals we have observed doing similar things (but not direct one to one of course)

I recall that in Keroro Gunso (Sgt. Frog) there was a ton of DBZ references:
    - Keroro being said to have a “Kakarot syndrome”
    - Tamama and another character using all sorts of Ki Blast variations
    - Keroro and Tamama having Super-Saiyan-style power ups, with Keroro growing Goku-like hair and Tamama just getting a golden aura
    - a movie character (Shivava) based on Sun Wukong, who uses ki blasts and even tries to charge up some sort of Genkidama; in the end credits he’s briefly seen fighting a martial artist who wears an orange Gi in the Tenkaichi Budokai stage.

A bit late but in in the French translation of Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow, the "four teens walking down on a railway" aren't there. Of course at that time Dragon Ball was very popular in France, hence the reference.

To add onto what you said about Naruto. I'm pretty sure that the name of the character who held the 4 tailed beast is Roshi, named after Master Roshi from Dragon Ball, for just a massive quadruple reference.
There was also a show called Final Space that aired on Adult Swim for a while. In season 2 they introduce 3 new characters Clarence, Ash, and Vox. While Clarence is introducing them Ash and Vox do the fusion dance in the background.
The show Steven Universe also may have been inspired by the fusion dance as the characters in that show fuse with one another and when it was shown on screen how they fuse the characters needed to dance for it to work. The creator of the show has stated that this wasn't the case, but it's possible that the animators might have been inspired by the fusion dance to come up with animation itself.
In the show Codename Kids Next Door there's an episode named report where the characters give their reports on a mission. In this episode the character Number 4's report takes the style of a Dragon ball Z fight with him getting spikey blonde hair and the villains taking on the colors of Frieza.
And lastly there was an episode of the show The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy where they had a martial arts style episode where Billy and Mandy fight in tournament, this episode is also called Chicken Ball Z.

Bobobo has plenty of references to dragon ball, but for a brief summary, during the fight with Over, a hair hunter, Don patch clings onto Over and self destructs, only to appear unharmed, referencing chaotzu's sacrifice against Nappa, only for it to do nothing to Nappa. In the same fight, Bobobo calls upon a golden cloud similar to the flying nimbus. Theres even a manga page depicting several characters as dragon ball characters, Jelly jiggler as goku, Don patch and bobobo are vegeta and nappa, beauty and gasser as androids 18 and 17, dengakuman as frieza, the glasses kid from the z block quiz game as cell, and torpedo girl as majin buu. And finally, an entire sketch was made recreating the iconic first battle between goku and vegeta, replacing the two with Don patch and jelly jiggler. The fight is relatively similar to the original, until jelly jiggler turns super sayian, which wasnt introduced until namek, and attacks don patch with the father son Kamehameha from the cell saga

One of my favorite gaming franchises, Disgaea, has referenced Dragonball a couple of times. There was an after episode segment in Disgaea 3 where Almaz was basically recapping a Dragonball episode with some commentary from Mao, the game's protagonist, as well as a wish granting dragon in the item world known as Purunga who appears after collecting 7 level spheres while traveling in the Item World. This is the only way to unlock Pleinair in the game BTW. Also, I haven't received confirmation on it, but I do think Disgaea 2 is also a bit of a spoof of Dragonball. The game's main character, Adell, is a talented martial artist who's on a quest to defeat a tyrannical overlord who subjugated his home planet and even dates a princess named Rozalin. It has been confirmed that Adell himself is NIS's parody take on a shonen protagonist, but I don't recall any mentions on which one specifically they inspired the most from. As much as I want to use Adell's fight against Gig, the God of Death and Destruction as a potential reference, this DLC segment was actually released in Japan a few years before the War of the Gods movie.
Oh and as for cartoons, I'm surprised Masako didn't bring up that one episode in Codename: Kids Next Door where the members of Sector 7 were secure a "package" keeping it away from the Delightful Children from Down the Lane. I won't reveal the twist for anyone who hasn't seen that episode.
