I just heard some bad news on geekdom 101 channel. Akira Toriyama has passed away.
I'm glad he never talked, that and the stupid boots and the Semi Perfect form makes him more individual and a monster. He ain't our Perfect Lad, he's a beefy monsterous clone, a bit like the original but very different and not at all perfect. And that is fine, he's his own guy.

I think this is why the Granolah arc did not resonate with a lot of people. Toyotaro focused too much on edgyness, powerful transformations and the characters being cool over remembering that DB is an action comedy.
It felt like a big Bardock fanfic and shows how the fans perceive DB over what DB really is.
I think that's why one of the best sequences in Granolah is the part, when they jump between the worlds and we have some silly gags there.

Well Cell Max is his own character he isn't Perfect Cell. He is blunt brutal and rushed brought to life prematurely. That's why his shape are round and gross
Perfect Cell is refined. Sharp and more precise. That's why his shapes are more acute and complex.

Regarding Cell Max' "character":
I feel that it was necessary to make him such a mindless force of nature in order to believably have Gohan go all out. Despite everything, he still prefers talking down his opponents, giving them any chance to stand down and talk things out instead. But by making the final boss a monstrosity like that cut off that entire option at the root.
RIP to the man who gave us the greatest Manga and Anime series of all time.
He's got those Mario shoes, I mean they're quality footwear, Mario never changes them and he jumps and runs endlessly.

Recent tragedies momentarily put aside, if they ever wanted to truly revive Cell, they could just go the Freeza route: wish him back (he's a fully organic being, this should be theoretically possible), and put him in a perfected version of Cell Max's body. Perfect Cell Max would only really work if he's literally just an upgraded version of OG Cell. Honestly, the whole "nucleus/cluster" thing would be the perfect excuse to give him a new body; he's like a parasite.

I just thought Cell Max's shoes were the animator's way of addressing the question of how some characters' shoes (mainly Piccolo and Gohan's) didn't get completely destroyed when they fought despite looking like they were made out of relatively flimsy material. Also I think that Cell Max was also Toriyama's way of finally exploring how dangerous second form Cell could be, given that it was his favorite form, and he was pressured by the editors to change it after reader backlash over the design

Moros design was fun. And it gives it some super buu vibes. While the darkness helps ground the goofy antics that lead up to the fights.

Honestly, what you said near the end there has had me worried. I've always felt that Toyataro just doesn't 'get' Dragonball. Exactly like you said, he always focuses on the 'cool' aspects of the characters, while completely ignoring the silly goofiness. And it's that kind of goofiness that defines Dragonball as a franchise. With Toriyama having tragically passed, Dragonballs legacy will have been passed down to his successors. I know this isn't really fair, it's extremely rare for someone to be able to perfectly replicate the vision of another author, but Dragonball is such a cultural phenomenon that it'll be a real shame to see it change into something utterly alien to the original vision.

This Cell doesn’t have Frieza or Cold’s cells in him. I always assumed that Cell’s feet were because of that.

Cell Max could have been a giant rock for all its lack of personality brought to it. The only thing memorable to me is how unremarkable it was. I only ever hear it talked of as being a nostalgia bait wannabe of his previous counterpart.

Kaiju Cell Max was the better option, had it just been Perfect Cell but red the movie would just be "Resurrection F" if Frieza only showed up at the climax.
Guessing its so he has traction, i dont think Cell had stuff like that under his feet after leaving his Frieza foot design, after his imperfect form.
