Many average looking white men and other anime lovers have this dream of getting a Japanese waifu as they are beautiful and easy especially if you are tall and white.
You see this even in the comments on videos about Japan's declining population. These men say they will save Japan etc. Sad reality.
Sex workers have figured out how to extend their marketing reach by connecting with channels that have large male audiences. It's shrewd business strategy, and I agree that it's not good.
You could be quite correct, it wouldn't surprise that some of these girls actually contacted Nobita.

They do street interviews but the numbers are exceptionally low. The interviewer may hype it up and make it look like the societal dynamics and issues are the majority.
Why else would he stop believing in street interviews while living in Japan? It must be the total opposite of what the interviewers are presenting to people who dont live there.

What do you think of the "Let's ask Shogo" channel?
I had a personal question about the behaviour of one of my Japanese pen pals. She had withdrawn from the friendship and finally cut it off after losing her job (for complaining about her butt-grabbing boss).
I didn't understand why, and Shogo was kind enough to reply in a private message , which really helped me to understand the group-based society of Japan, the mentality of never standing out - and punishing yourself even before someone else mentions it.
Their society is kind of nutty if you ask me and I observed many young people in active rebellion against the rigid inflexible rules no one seems to understand 100%

They seem to promote a different way, calling themselves the Youth of Japan and encourage being more individual, outstanding, not obeying nonsense rules, reminding older people that they have once been young themselves, etc...
Even their name shows this concept: they added - new/no leaders - to their name and all four wear a red ribbon around the upper arm that indicates the school or class leader. Everyone is equally important and allowed or even encouraged to stand out.
Their video cooperation with the sports brand Nike addresses this once again. In this video they even included that Japanese fitness girl that was publicly shamed for being to chubby for fitness videos, I forgot her name...
As much as I hear those dark things about women Japanese in media, when I traveled to Japan myself a lot of Japanese women I met were very pleasant and just normal people. I'm Korean, and despite our countries current animosity towards each other, I LOVE Japan! It's an amazing country! 7 days traveling to Osaka, Kyoto, and Tokyo is not enough time for me to properly explore Japan. I will go there again sometime later in the future! ❤ 😁

Japanese women, like all other women, are people. Some are good; some are bad, and some do stupid things. However, most Japanese people just want to live their lives, and are good, honest, hardworking people.
You won’t know their character for sure until you actually go there and meet a Japanese woman. Each individual is different.
I suppose that if somebody *only* watched channels which discuss the negative sides to a place, their opinion would be swayed that way, but I watch many more. The local government sponsored channels like Tokyo Creative do a good job of showing lovely places and people of Japan. Then there are others I watch, like Mrs. Eats, sora the troll, Abroad In Japan, CDawgVA, Japan By Food, seerasan, Lyssa Kay and Ask Japanese which all talk about various aspects of Japanese life.
It's good to get a balanced view.

Realized I follow all the channels you follow as well, plus some in my main tongue (brazilian portuguese) which has tons of japanese immigrants so lots of these channels around. Plenty of dark and light content, a mix, like always. The good side of japan (from what I could tell) stays in the country side, where "nothing happens", because teens and party people move to big centers like tokyo, shibuya, osaka, etc.
I mean... Good side, but there are so many people who enjoy s*x and easier access to parties, I forgot to mention it's not what I enjoy, but it is what plenty of people like.
I'm happy to see this being addressed. I actually stopped watching Nobita's content years ago because he started riding the metaphoric train of making controversial controversial content. I think he was actually banned from a Facebook group I was part of because of it.

Dude, literally every Gaijin who lives in Japan and has a CZcamsr Channel focus all his content on how sexless Japanese society really is, how impossible is for foreigners to make friends there, how everybody cheats in Japan and to asking silly questions like if Japanese people would be open to date/marry a foreigner.

A real world example of this is how people view Thailand and Thai women, especially regarding men and their reasons for visiting that country. Sure, this is probably an extreme example and one that the country may have leaned into a bit but, regardless, you can see how a narrative can set in and create a generalization of the people, or set of people, who live there.

Another real world example is how everyone thinks Americans are all fat-assed gun-toting rednecks hurling racial insults at everyone. It seems to me we can spend all day playing this game. Our video poster just seems to be angry there are channels out here showing unflattering sides of Japan, worried that people are going to be as stupid about Japan as they are the US and assume "wow, everyone must be really awful like that."
Except as I pointed out in another comment, people already have idiotic ideas about Japan--and Japanese women--from watching anime. So....maybe she likes that stereotype better? Or maybe it's best to just roll one's eyes and realize the world will always be filled with buffoons who think they are now experts on an entire country because they listened to a few podcasts and watched a few TikTok videos. Why blame the messenger, and just accuse them of making "click-bait?"
Thailand is Japan in this case but far worse in terms of damage. All the youtubers interviewing in the red light district made it so everyone thinks the country is literally only ladyboys and there's no actual women.

I actually did like Nobitas newer content for a while (cause his older content was very… for a certain demographic) but I also noticed the sex worker thing taking up a large portion of his videos he was putting out and thought there had to be something more going on. I still do like his societal issue videos about womens rights or like the idol industry but lately with all the sex work pieces coming out of not just him but other popular creators I think it is starting to skew peoples, mainly mens, perception on how normalized sex work is in general in Japan and their perception of Japanese women in general.
Ive noticed in Nobitas comments (and others) men will talk or be angry/bitter/degrading about Japanese women being easy or can just turn to sex work if they are going through a hard time financially, or how most have OF type of content out or something. Its creepy and Ive noticed this mindset in alot of comments under Nobitas and others CZcamss that are more geared towards a male audience.
Also I find it funny and ironic some.. people.. in the comments trying to stick up for nobita and saying its just him covering “important different topics of japan for like the 20th time lol” and what was being said basically going right over there heads. Yes its for views and attention but at the expense of Japanese women’s reputation and I can obviously see why Japanese women would have a problem with that.
I think the point of these videos is to counteract the rose-colored glasses a lot of people have about Japan that they get from consuming only things like anime. I suppose you could argue the pendulum has swung too far in one direction or the other, and the reality is somewhere in the middle, but it is very hard to get an accurate picture of a large country just by watching media. It’s not like I have found that most people have a very accurate picture of what life is like in the United States, just because they watch American movies and TV shows, or watch the news about politicians or large-scale tragic events.
It's fine to talk about social issues. But the problem is that many of these CZcamsrs tend to exaggerate things and say bad things about Japan in order to get views. And now that the sexual content is hot, they get to make more extreme stuff. For example, asking people about cheating around red light district to get radical opinions. You won't see the real Japan by watching their videos, you just stereotype Japan. And these days, criticism of Japan has gone so far that even the slightest praise of Japan will get you the weeb treatment. For example, even in the most innocuous videos, people be like "noooooo don't idolize Japan, you weeb! Japan has many social problems, like hikikomori, s*ic*de, long working hours!"
But, why would it be necessary to counteract the delusions of ignorant anime fans who think anime is reality anyways?
That's like saying vlogs about America would be justified if they spent most of their time in every video telling people that USA is not like the hollywood depictions. No, that's just a waste of the average viewer's time and repeating "Hollywood movies are not real" instead of actually showing us a slice of real life USA. Yes, maybe some really ignorant people could use that advice, but do we all really have to suffer mainstream content catered to the lowest common denominator?
The glorifications and exaggerations of Japan is real because that will get you views. It's not the best place and it's not the worst place either. For example the orderliness and the suicide rates are both glorification and exaggeration. And these youtubers only copy what they see on Japanese media and show it to the world. It's not like these youtubers expose Japan to the world if you watch Japanese movies done by koreeda etc. they are already doing that.
and if japan normalize cheating they won't cancel those celebrities who cheat.

What makes Nobita a good youtuber is how he is not afraid to show the bad side of Japan as well. He makes sure to not let people get fooled into thinking that Japan is all great and perfect and as all countries, is filled with flaws that also need to be fixed.
He's not afraid to speak out about the problems his own country have either. I'm sure he does this because he wants his country to be better but lots of people in Japan like to pretend nothing is wrong.

I used to watch Nobita because I felt that he used to create content with an authentic curiosity. Unfortunately, this has changed in the last few years. Thankfully, there are many more alternatives that share more authentic and realistic perspectives. It feels less authentic when the primary focus is chasing dark and sensationalistic content. you're kind of right though because even when i was barely in College which was like almost a decade ago there was "rumors" about like 1 in 5/10 Japanese women were in at least one porn film which even back then was crazy to think about

If you like Japan and get more and more involved with the culture or art, you quickly realize that the personalities shown in social media do not correspond to the norm (this does not only apply to Japan). The singer and the drummer of Nemophila have influenced me in this respect, both mothers and real power women :)

I found those videos helpful. I had heard that these activities exist in Japan but I never witnessed it during any of my time there. On my most recent visit, I saw different class of woman on the streets around my friend’s station. They weren’t the typical hostess bar workers so I decided to ask my friend. He claimed they did work at the hostess bars but then I saw one of these videos and it clarified what I had seen. It vindicated my observations.
Because of the pandemic, I didn’t get to visit Japan for three years and in that time things have changed quite a bit. A lot of the enthusiasm and prosperity has slipped away. I didn’t see as many happy kids or salarymen with hope in their eyes as before. It was very disconcerting. Everything changes but this was a hard thing to observe.
Was in Japan for a month in November, Came back to the States and after meeting a girl there and also a woman who we're helping each other learn Japanese and English, I revisited some of that content and realized how, Not Wrong, it is but that the "Gaijin Hunter", No Dating, No Babies, Meeting Japanese People is Hard, Making Japanese Friends is Impossible content is not as prevalent as those videos made it seem. Saw a bunch of kids/babies, Talked to and became friends with a bunch of Japanese people where we still talk on Instagram/Line (Language barrier can be difficult but it's really pushed me to learn more and faster) and i've been pushing myself away from that content since coming back
I think it really just depends on the person. I think when you have that mentality of the world is against you you'll probably only see that side of Japan. It's like mainstream news only showing people negative things like war or crime because negative media has a much bigger impact on people than positive ones.
I live in Japan and have been here for a year and almost everything they say is way blown out of proportion. I stopped following those incel guys.

You are on point. These videos like can’t make friends or can’t date or racism creates a more toxic and depressing mentality. I noticed this myself, like when I watch these before leaving the house for the day, I tend to look over my shoulder more or have a bigger chip on my shoulder. It’s healthier for me to not watch these, and I notice more people are nice, not racist..

Lol, Tokyo and LA are very different in terms of the importance they have to the rest of their respective nations. There is no American city analogous to Tokyo, the closest is NYC, but even that doesn't come really close.

A legitimate concern Asagi👍Something tells me this info is directed to an international audience, and is therefore extremely focused on life in 'urban japan'. Most foreigners probably have 0 interest in what happens outside Tokyo Kyoto or Osaka. I would bet that alot of these societal issues /attitudes they highlight differ significantly in most of the rest of Japan.

I’m glad to find your channel, my friends are always having wrong idea about Japanese women due to contents that generalize how Japanese people really are.
I believe everyone should understand and take any content on CZcams with a grain of salt. Including this video. Typically, videos are created with the intent to share an opinion, thought, or (hopefully) some educational PERSPECTIVE. With all of that said, I have watched many videos regarding Japan in general, including some of the mentioned people's videos, and have not once thought that this encompasses all Japanese women.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this topic, as it does raise a valid point. And that is, while people should understand that CZcams is here for content/entertainment, it should not be taken "as is" or as fact. And if someone were to watch those types of videos (especially if they only watch those specific videos) they may get the wrong impression of Japanese women (or the culture). My recommendation to everyone (and opinion!) is to watch many different streamers, CZcamsrs, and other content creators to see the different perspectives and topics they bring up. Understand that there is usually a narrative drive behind the videos that are created, and that they don't represent x-type of person or people.
Also, read up on the history and culture of Japan. You will see how RICH and GREAT it truly is and be appreciative of the Japanese people and their culture.

It's easy, low effort content. That's why they make that content. Since they are making videos in English the videos are meant for non Japanese people.
There are a lot of people interested in Japanese culture, architecture, history, etc. There's a lot more people who are into JAV.

Before moving to Japan, quickly found out that many videos about Japan are greatly exaggerated, and it was very hard to figure out how the real Japan was for someone living here. Certainly they can distort the public of view about Japan.

I noticed that with Nobita's videos for the last year or so, most of his content was related to the AV or related industry.
I recently moved to Japan, it's only been 1 year. My friends back home have been pushing me to make content about life in Japan, even though I've never done anything like that before. I have spent so much time on CZcams researching Japan before I came here, and even after arriving, just to learn more about the people I now live with.
I agree with you that too much content is being made about "Dark side", skewed/biased opinions and these videos are creating such a poor impression of this country and it's people. So much so that my friends will message me and ask questions about life here, thinking that these videos [like the Shinjuku or Shibuya street interviews] are the whole truth.
I am glad to find content creators like you who are giving genuine content, working hard to break the wrong impressions being created. You're not the first Japanese woman I've met who talks about the burden of maintaining the image that anime and other content has created of Japanese women. It's just not realistic most of the time.

That’s a bit of a stretch.
I used to be subscribed to Nobito. I stopped watching him after seeing how repetative he is with his topics. Not to mention how inaccurate they can be. 1 topic that he kept talking about was related to African American perception and how "dangerous" we are. A lot of viewers took his word as the truth which I thought was funny since it was coming from a Japanese guy. As you can imagine he got a lot of views from it and just as much backlash. It got so bad that Japanese Man Yuta had to make a video addressing it due to people mixing him up with Nobito. So his videos do make foreigners think that certain groups of people are 1 way. Especially Japanese people. Which is why I try to get different opinions from different Japanese channels instead of just 1.

Thank you for talking about how these videos can skew a person's perception on what is normal in Japan. They did for me! And the weird thing is that long before I watched street videos on these topics I already knew enough about Japan to not let it skew my view - if only I had paused to think about it. If only I had paused to think about it and just notice how the streets where the interviews are look, how the people are dressed, I wouldn't even need to know they're in Shinjuku or Shibuya to notice these people don't represent an average for Japan. But for whatever reason I didn't pause to think.

Asagi; Hope your new year has started off well and you and your family are healthy. In my opinion, I view the other peoples content with a grain of salt. Though there is the darker side of Japan like prostitution, kabukicho, shinjuku and things like that. It is no different here in Hawaii with our prostitutes, waikiki and our dark side of the culture. Content providers like Nobrita, and Machido do have some validity in their opinions both positively and negatively and I think most people think view them with a mindset that they are educators of entertainment. I don’t think most people view them with much authority. I actually think most people/men click on their videos because it says “Porn Star” “Japanese women cheat” and things like that. I don't think it is a bad thing that the darker side of Japan is shown as many people have this 'Japan is perfect' idealism going. Some men come to Japan with the intention to build a life here and want to inform themselves so they don't get burned. I agree with you, however, that this Japanese women = sex-point of view is over-highlighted. Why? Because this content sells.

It can show in a bad light but there is a slight truth in it why it's heavily synonymous when you think of Japan.
Do you know how many AV they shovel out each day? EACH DAY?! Though I exaggerate it but I check a site shows what has come out and not a single time day it doesn't have anything new.
Which does beg the reasonable question why women does it in Japan, which covers from reasonable such as needing money or pleasure, to out right stupid as being curious or fell into a scam.

As someone that has been fascinated with Japan and its people for the past twenty years, you are correct in pointing out these creators as they only focus on the negative side of Japan for clicks. There are negative sides to every country and Japan is no exception. In my mind Japanese people are respectful and kind. It would be good fortune for anyone to have a Japanese wife or husband.

I just happen to listen on your opinion on other topics around Japan. I want to ask you about the population issue in Japan that I've heard or read in the news that the government is trying to promote people to have children. I would love to hear your opinion on it especially they're trying to bring foreign migrants to counter population decline from what I read online. Plus if the government's efforts is also going to attract foreigners as I read from a news article, they'll try to be less restrictive on the requirements and whether this would lead into "volunteer" projects where to aim to combat the growing problems of Japan's population decline.
I was also surprised that Japan was on the spotlight but not on countries like South Korea where they also dealt with the same issue. I'm also living in the Philippines where a number of models and JAV girls recently having a vacation recently and I also know a handful of government benefits existed in the country even for a disabled person like myself (near sighted and born Aspie)

Poor Takeshii from Japan being in the thumbnail. He does have some videos like you're saying but it would be only like 5%. Most of his interviews are everyday Japanese men and women.
His interviews about how everybody in Japan cheats were so viral outside of Japan that he has been invited in a lot of interviews from other CZcamsrs and he's so proud of that. Also in that interviews he has insisted on how everybody cheats in Japan.
So yeah, the thumbnail is accurate and he 100% deserves to be mentioned here.
Takashi stays neutral in his channel but on Instagram or when he's the one interviewed he does subscribe to the Japan hate train

As a Western man I find this refreshing. A man should respect a woman and decently pursue her. If he is fortunate she will return his affection ... then they will have a happy life.
None of this is possible with the view of japanese women as sex objects.
Perhaps some CZcamsrs have got stuck in cycles of negativity because doom and gloom in the title might bring the most clicks, at least in short term, and that might lead to the creators thinking that that's the kind of content the viewers really want to see. I've seen several titles like the ones that were mentioned here (but I haven't watched the videos), and at some level I had started to wonder if something has gone wrong with Japan in recent years. But now it starts to seem that it's probably just some weird bias caused by the CZcamsrs blindly believing when CZcams's algorithm essentially tells them that negativity sells best. Also, if the women contact the CZcamsrs and suggest a topic for a video and offer to be interviewed, it could be tempting to accept; at least I'd assume that it would be notably easier to make a video from such starting point than if they'd have to plan the from the scratch.
And thinking of a larger picture, these videos could be a part of the same phenomenon as recent videos titled along the lines "[Country X]'s economy about to collapse". Such videos on previously unknown channels have recently appeared about a wide variety of countries. I haven't watched those videos either, but just seeing such titles repeatedly had started to make me worried that the whole world could be in serious trouble. But now I'm starting to think that it could be just some level of clickbait that could be safely ignored.
So, some creators might have got sucked into negativity by accident, without even noticing it themselves, while some others might be specifically trying to take advantage of the negativity.
Interesting and as someone from Europe I didn't heard these stereotypes or preconceptions about Japanese woman you mentioned before. True or not the stereotypes or preconceptions that I did hear about Japanese woman mostly consist of that Japanese woman are great to date but different when it comes to marriage, that they really become the boss of the family (specially when they get kids) and run the family like a Yakuza boss, be in control of all family decisions, finances etc. and that man has no say, control and has to work very hard to provide to a level he is more a slave to his wife. I'm sure there is a lot of exaggeration in that, but the many times I've heard it would make one wonder of there is at least some truth to such marriage and family dynamics.
It’s always good to hear both sides of the story instead of basing your judgement on a one sided or shared opinion.

I've watched Dark Japan and he's opened my eyes to how bad things can get in japan, i never thought it was as bad as this.

So this is why I like watching this content anyway- as someone who is very interested in Japan and plan to visit and maybe stay for long periods- I like looking at the extreme sides of societies also because it gives me an idea about how to stay safe. If I can understand extreme behavior in a culture I feel I can better be prepared for anything. This is why I also watch police interrogations of killers.
But I know my thinking is maybe extreme and not normative, but this is a big part why seeing the extreme things in societies is fascinating for me.
Those women reaching out to Nobita when it used to be the other way around...reminds me of OF women paying big and popular Twitter accounts (like those meme accounts) that supposedly critisizes them, only for that to be their intent all along, as they simply reply to it with their OF page link, and they end up being the top reply, generated more views and clicks. It's all a money grab, and it presents a skewed false sense of reality. This is one reason why I slowly stopped watching his content, as it was more of the same story.
It's like if say, a cooking channel based around French cuisine started to find escargo recipes made more views, so they started to only make those recipes, and then slowly over time people start to think the French only ate snails for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The "Find your love in Japan" channel...has become "Find your porn addiction in Japan" channel.

Average Filipino women aren’t gold diggers, into foreign men, scammers, are single mothers, women who don’t have careers or who eat pagpag (food garbage) or even ones who lack any agency or great intellect. I appreciate learning about all sides of a place, and also accurate portraits. I like education without exaggeration. All countries have problems. I don't watch all those channels so I don't know if some exaggerate or give viewers inaccurate ideas of how prevalent some problems are.
I used to watch some of them and they blew it out of control. I would know as I actually have been living in Japan for the past year and most of the issues they mentioned are in other places like America. In fact, I felt many of the issues were MORE prevalent in America where I used to live.

Reality doesn’t sell as well as fantasy. We are becoming further detached from reality on a daily basis. To see reality takes more effort than fantasy, and as most natural motions we take the path of least resistance. It doesn’t excuse the actions of others, it serves to explain some behaviours.
I think meshida talks about the problems about it but also with adding some comedy. Nobita kinda just brings some awareness but thats about it. Other channels try to bring in awareness but its mostly seen as an allure, if anything else.
meshida is a fukin pos. he thinks he's smart/woke because he's doing stand up comedy and criticizing his own country but all he's doing is making japan look bad.

I was shocked by how much support he offered to the perspective that, not only that all foreign men only want sex, but also that because men want sex that it's fine to rip them off without any questions asked or that it's okay for a josei to plan for that to be her standard operating procedure and/or goal.
Most japanese people I have known are some of the best people I have ever known. Honest, loyal, and respectful. I can not say more about the ones I have known.

I’ve been talking with a Japanese woman for a few months and are seriously thinking about flying out so we can meet and get married (if we both love each other haha). I noticed this media and had to have a uncomfortable conversation asking about sex workers there because I was worried if she was involved … she was not. She is the sweetest person I have ever spoken with. I agree with you that Japanese woman should not be portrayed like this, the woman are amazing.
I watch few videos from those channels left little bit confused and lost when talking about cheating made it cornering for sample like socialize with someone from japan she nice conversation is good in long term end up relationship with her put doubts which is not good but watching video gave me better understanding 😊👍
Giving a voice to people is good, yeah! And showing a more nuanced picture of a country and the people in it - it can help people shake off simplistic views and stereotypes. But if you focus on one kind of thing too much, people can just end up with different stereotypes
There's definitely a clickbait angle - but I feel like the bigger problem is that it panders to existing stereotypes as well. Like it presents an image of Japan and Japanese women (or whatever - it's kind of a whole genre of video at this point) that people ~want~ to believe. So it reinforces those attitudes and spreads them around when the videos do well. It ends up being part of the problem
