- After years of development, the BlackFly personal aerial vehicle will soon be on sale. Reporter John Blackstone set out to see how someone with no flying experience could manage behind the controls. (10-15-21)
POV: Watching this in 2100 like we watch old 1900 Ford car videos...
Nope. No flying cars in 2100 either.
There are things called "aviation laws" and they will never change to allow flying cars to operate.
Period. End of story.
Lol but I bet in 2100 you still got corrupt govts
@@Chris.Davies What we achieved in 120 years is astonishing. And technology is growing exponentially. Aviation laws are man made laws and can be changed. The cars will be definitely allowed to fly under 100m of altitude. Period.
@@Chris.Davies Wow you don't know how wrong you are, the air taxi is neither new nor around the corner, it's been here for years it's just evolving.
@wave mc One issue I have is in order for an object to fly it needs to displace a lot of air which is very noisy. Having flying cars, will make living anywhere, just like living next to an airport.
I like that reporter he seems very genuine 👊🏻
Yeah he seems great on the fly!
I miss that kind of reporting
He is! He's genuinely ignorant of reality and aviation law!

@@honestreviews4u620 where's the link?
Yeah exactly what a flying car technically would be
A drone is Unmanned Aerial Vehicle = UAV
I don’t see the “Car” part, it’s just a plane or helicopter or drone. For it to be a car, it obviously needs wheels and the ability to drive on the road, which this does not.
Valid point, but even if it can be so easy to fly it will be very convenient like going to office from your home
@@mindfulmusings199 That would be awesome. I wonder when we will start to see landing pads in parking lots. Seems like we would need those. Well hey, yeah it would be more convenient (probably dangerous) to have local landing pads and then drive right around the corner to the coffee shop. But then they’d have to be cars too. But I’m up for it.
Wouldn't take much to ad an extra motor, geared with lightweight wheels and steerable front.
Let's hope it takes off🤔 and the next versions have those upgrades
What exactly do you think a flying car is? A car that flies? It's a personal plane. We need to stop moving the goal post for no reason because it doesn't look like a levitating tesla.
@@koc988 there's always one. 😑
that's not a flying car, it's still an aircraft. just imagine everyone having these and heading down to the mall. you know how many accidents there will be ? we can't even get cars sorted out yet.
I’ve only ever seen good, confident drivers on the road. We will be fine.
Not allowed in populated areas
Imagine a few hundred of these flying overhead the noise would be unbearable.
@@russellprout723
I doubt it. FAA would eventually step in and regulate these things and only allow certified pilots with more experience.
Excellent work by that reporter getting in the seat like that. Awesome that the creator let him handle the equipment independently as well. 😳👍🏻💰
That alone puts this leaps and bounds above all the other flying car videos. It shows this one is just about ready, whereas the others look like they all need another 10 years minimum before someone could do that.
The "California" model comes equipped with a six-pack of Modello that has to be consumed before touch-down.
Don't forget the pack of Marlboro that you have to hot box before opening the hatch.
Also heavily taxed and rainbow colored.
In the Alabama version they will put a pack of Budweiser. And shewing tobacco .. With a complementary empty bottle of coke so you can spit in it..
IF people cant even drive cars, what on earth makes you think people can fly cars??
right
I actually believe that's THE single most reason why it just hasn't really happened. People are stupid, this is something you simply CANNOT allow to happen. Ever.
@@AzrialAlaria it probably will never happen because the noise that airplanes make is way too loud... Elon musk has a whole podcast about this

Hopefully people “without a pilot’s license” will NEVER be able to fly a flying-car over my house.
They'll be controlled by AI.
Actually, they can already, ultralites are not new....
Hmm, yes!
Don't worry, it's only for the mega rich. The people in power will never let the masses of "normal" people have this. They are much too scared people will fly them into government buildings. This will never go mainstream.
Don't worry they'll most likely crash before your house and if they've gotten far enough to learn even how to fly it over your house they probably don't want to die doing it
its just a giant drone with a shell..
Pretty much
I see a booming business for "sudden unexpected decapitation" lawyers once these things are widespread. Most people can barely handle parking a car.
No doubt.

We've had flying cars for a long time. They're called helicopters.
I'm going out on a limb hear to say by definition a car must have wheels...a vtol electric vehicle is something completely different.
The first working and actual flying car was made in 1947. We've had working flying cars for *74 years* almost continuously (there were a couple of years where there were none around due to gaps between one crashing and others being built).
The first true flying car was the Convair Model 118 ConvAirCar completed construction on November 1st, 1947.
but was it produced in numbers that made them available to the general public? and did you have to have a pilots licence to fly it? if the answer to iether question is no, then we did not have flying cars for 74 years.

Unfortunately, if the FAA doesn't let you fly over cities then it's useless as a commuter, which is why most people want a flying car in the first place.
The biggest problem will be the noise. You just can’t have neighbors around.
It’s not for most people which they said. Once it’s viable for early adopters then they’ll create a cheaper mass consumer version.
@@aloevera7422 And what happens when there is a fault in the system that causes a power loss. Airplanes can glide and helicopters can autorotate. This thing will fall strait down. Add a ballistic parachute. Even then, it would only be effective at specific altitudes above ground. Maybe add 0-0 ejection seat. Now you are adding extreme costs and weight.
The noise would also be totally unacceptable to neighbors.
Come the day when I might be able to buy such an amazing craft. Mr. Marcus Lang. You and your talented team have come up, I believe, with the answer to traffic congestion, for now. The terrifying thing about flying vehicles like these is if you lose engine you just drop out of the sky. I really doubt it has much of a glide slope
I saw 8 rotors...
@@MrMickeycrazy yeah, and what happens if it loses any of them? doesnt have redundancy. it uses all of those motors to generate lift
It looks a little awkward flying forward but looking up at the sky. How do you see what’s in front of you?
At speed it isn’t at that angle, the rear wing lifts above the front and you get a normal, flying position. He was flying in “takeoff/landing position” the whole time.
"if you have a million dollars, then you too can have one of these."
I would be interested to see what the weather envelope requirements are for this machine. I would imagine having an auto navigation system in place would make it even more accessible, basically a completely automated flight system that can be overridden by pilot input if needed. Very neat, congratulations on your accomplishment!
They forgot to mention that Google's Larry Page is funding this EVTOL project and the retail should be around 60K. Looks like a winner to me.
Blackfly is one of my favorite flying cars. I mean God I wish I could have one. 🤟👌

Well current battery we're using are lithium ion, and for electric vehicles they're aren't efficient for long travel. Wait until the next decade or more for Solid State batteries. They'll be game changer.

Wow that was smooth 😍
One problem, they are extremely loud
My first reaction: This not a flying "car", it's just a weird looking aircraft. When I think of a flying car, I think of a literal car that is capable of flight. This reminds me of how a few years ago people were calling those wheeled objects "hoverboards", but those aren't hoverboards because they don't hover like the hoverboards seen in "Back To The Future: Part 2." If you're It seems to me more and more that, at least in America, we love to call things by the wrong name.
Take a look at the 1947 Convair Model 118 ConvAirCar. That was an actual flying car. Made 74 years ago.
That is extremely cool. The only problem is the price is gonna be insane.
For now. Give it 10 years. The price it is now doesn't just represent it's manufacturing costs but it's research and development, too. Now that we know it's possible there will be other companies that start developing competitive products and the price will come down. Kind of like battery powered cars. 10 years ago only the super rich could afford it. Now a brand new battery powered car isn't much more expensive than a brand new petrol powered car.
Technology is moving so fast it won't be anymore than 2 decades before these kind of machines are mainstream... well, i hope so.
It should be required to have a pilot’s license. Most people shouldn’t even have a driving one
About 90% of what you have to learn to get a pilot's license doesn't apply to it. The operator isn't really flying it. They're telling it where they want to go, and it goes there.
If it's classed as an ultralight no different then hang glider, Paramotor none of those require a license. It's good idea to get training in any of those because gravity is not forgiving many have died. This will be no different there will be a fatality just matter of time. I do believe the future is something like this where computers fly for you simply ride in them.
Insane how many of these elderly private pilots crash here in Florida. And they just busted some doctor here for falsifying thousands of FAA physicals. These old guys will just not give up there wings when they shouldn't even be operating an automobile.
@@Mike-01234 Let me enlighten you...in all modern civilian or military aircraft the computer flies the aircraft via fly by wire...pilots make navigation/tactical decisions and planning and doublecheck computer database and data input but not hand-fly anymore...

Getting into the air is the easy part.
Managing a few thousand of these will require complex tracking and regulation.
People probably said the same thing when cars started gaining popularity and look how far we’ve come. Not saying you’re wrong! But imagine someone from 1910 seeing today’s 5 lane highways and traffic lights and 7 way intersections… so complex, yet they work. So perhaps in 50 years we’ll be flying cars around no problem, thinking back to the days where we were wondering if it was even possible

All you young kids are gunna be driving this to work one day.
Considering the number of accidents involved with only two dimensions that requires a licenses. I can't imagine how many more there would be when a third dimensions is available and no licenses is required.
You missed the part about it flies itself.
Great start to the flying car in the near future these cars will have safety systems that will keep you safe from hitting other flying cars they also have Auto take off and auto landing solar panels to recharge themselves and of course a radio and a cup holder
