YES hello I'm back making clothing out of things that probably shouldn't be clothing! And today we are busting out the PILLOWCASES. Cheap? Yes. Stressful? Most definitely. Worth it? I dunno, you decide lol

This reminds me of how in the Depression many people would make clothes out of flour sacks, and the flour companies actually started printing their sacks with patterns because it was such a thing!
People also quilted with them. The sacks are collector items now!
In World War Two women made bridal dresses from parachutes
And after the wedding the dress was made into curtains
Yes! During WW2 flour companies would compete with each other to use the nicest prints because it was such a hit that it would influence which brand people would buy. My grandmothers had many flour sack dresses/curtains/quilts!
My mother-in-law said she had some undergarments made with them, and they were def not the most comfy!
Rachel- sees unusual household fabrics: ~slaps~ this bad boy can fit so much Rachel Maksy in here ✨
This comment is both amusing and accurate.
Sounds like someone using a sales pitch for a used car, but pillowcases for outfits. Lol
Me wanting to make winter clothing but living in south florida
And there’s a duck noise at the slap 🦆

Also Rachel: wears thigh high socks

@@magiv4205i was laughingso hard, because this reflects me 😂
I don’t think any of us would mind if you split videos like this into two parts so you don’t have to do another “after hours Rachel” and didn’t feel so stressed to get things done on time! Your videos would be equally as enjoyable with just one outfit and a cliffhanger for part 2
Yesss
Rachel's final form is slowly evolving going from Couch Potato to Couch Pillow 😄
That's a good one
Like Horace Slughorn
Underrated comment 🤣🤣
Incredible comment omg, I exhaled forcefully out of my nose at this
Couch Potato Pillow
Rachel once again proving, she can literally just wear pillow cases and would still be fabulous.
Why are you forever jynxed may I ask ?
I once cut a few holes in a gaudy cheapo store pillow case and I wear that as a shirt sometimes. It has a pug on it among other things. And an Eiffel tower I think.
If you could sew the way she does then so could you. If anything she’s proving anyone can do this as long as they put in the time and effort.
Now I'm just waiting for Paper Bag Princess Rachel where she makes an adorable outfit out of so material reusable bags! 😂😂
@@jordanh468 i reckon she did make a dress out of a fabric-ish gift bag not long ago...
I was talking to a friend and said I don't like showing my knees. And told her that its not that im ashamed of my knees but they just don't look right. She made a really good point when she asked me "does anyone's knees look right?" 🤣 I'm like, okay, you got me there
yea i think looking at your own knees and thinking they look "right" is like hearing your own voice from a recording. Its just never gonna seem quite right.
I was once at a summer camp as one of the only girls there, and when we were swimming one of the boys came up toe and said I had weird knees, and then proceeded to discuss my knees with the other boys. I mean, yeah, my knees are weird but.... dude...
@@elliedereyna5014 I know this is a month old, but did your confidence recover? pls I need to know i'm so concerned for you
@@jenniferwatrous1896 Yeah I think if anything that camp taught me not to be concerned by the critique of others and just wear whatever the hell I wanted to. Thanks for being concerned that means alot
Ohhh, yes! I love y'all
I have "crotch then legs" written on my sewing machine desk, because I have screwed that up so many times.
Ditto armpits then side seams on tops! 😂
Ive always been told to do it leg seam then crotch seam, is it just personal preference?
@@bellabean8009 I do leg seamsthwn crotch because I find it takes less brain cells
@@anna_in_aotearoa3166 does this alleviate the weird gaping armscye thing?
@@GracefulAnswers 😂 Good question!! So far the only real cure for that one I've found has been starting with a well-fitting pattern, if one can find that, sigh....? 😅
For me, it's more about stuff like seam allowances: e.g. accidentally ending up with them folded over sideways on the arms, but flat on the torso side seams, adding a lot of awkward-to-trim-out unneccesary bulk in the armpit seam? But I'm still very inexperienced with making tops (vs skirts) so probably get tripped up by stuff that seems just automatic to a more practiced sewist! 😏
when house elves begin freeing themselves by making proper clothes out of their pillow case outfits
This is such a cool idea

@@isabelpalacios2147 alas, perhaps if she'd constructed clothes out of pillowcases rather than knitted hats, they'd have been more interested!
not to worry, t'was but a joke, not referring to actual canon, also; that particular OOTP plot point was rather unfortunate, and the Hogwarts house elves donning rockin' pillow case outfits and being paid a generous wage by Dumbledore, sounds exponentially more fun
Rachel: can I make outfits out of pillowcases?

*slow clap*
Get back here, you’re a genius
Please don't. That's my kinda humor! :-))
NO COME BACK!
Hahahaha!
My cat woke up with the paper rustling sound and starred at me like: where's the paper mom? Give it to me.
And I almost said it's a video, but ended up finding a piece of paper to please the boss.
It's a Cat's World. We're just their slaves. ;)
My little prince woke up too, but only felt the need to give me a dirty look 😂
You’re a good pet mom. 👍🏻🐈
This reminds me of what flour companies did during ww2. They made their sacks pretty and ladies would make clothing or blankets out of it
It might just be your wording but the ladies were already using the flour sacks to make clothes because of the mass shortages of nearly everything. So the flour companies started printing patterns on their bags to help boost morale. Which I think was rather sweet of them.
They also specifically made them with children's prints as well so kids could have some cute stuff.
Let’s bring that back
Same with livestock feed bags! My grandma made a lot of clothes out of them. Sometimes she would help pick out what feed they got based on patterns
Maria von Trapp: *makes playsuits out of curtains for her kids*
Rachel: I'm about to end this womans whole career
I think you just enhanced it. The curtains to play clothes is my favorite part. See Enchanted when Amy Adams makes dresses out of curtains. Rachel's sewing has improved vastly and I am so proud she's not afraid to show her progress. Happy Birthday, Rachael!
Rachel: hold my pillow

As any sewing hobbyist does, naturally.
I mean same. Lol
Absolutely!
My grandmother (I'm from Germany and my grandmother is, too) told me she made dresses from everything so she could go to a dance to wear something new after the war. It was quite normal.

Also Rachel: Cuts to glamorous red dress and red lips to prove her point.
Ah yes Friday night with my three great friends: Rachel, Sponsorship Rachel, and Editing Rachel. The gang is all here
Don't forget Frodo ! (Cat didn't make an appearance this week!)

I keep saying this but I haven't heard the song yet

I'd love to see you do a video where you talk about the clothes you've made, how often each piece was worn, how the secondhand fabric went etc
Same!!!!! I always feel happy when I recognize something she's wearing from another video, be it from a haul or self-made. So that's an interesting thought.
I feel like if anyone compliments Rachel while she's wearing these, in the same energy as "thanks, it has pockets!" she'll say, "thanks, it was pillowcases!!"
Ex Maid here: chocolates go on top of the pillowcase, not under. If a hot sleeper didn’t notice it there, they’d likely wake up to a bit of a mess💘

The fact that 1) Brooklinen had to have reviewed the true crime bit and 2) that they actually approved it is hilarious to me.
I'd love to see some patchwork garment of all your little scraps of leftover fabric! An apron would actually be awesome, because the different patterns would hide any stains.
Rachel: I could put on a gown and makeup and do a whole fancy setup for this ad, but I won't
Also Rachel: does it anyway for a 6 second joke shot

Ideas for a Make It Vintage:
-Bill Cipher in a 1920-30s tuxedo
-The Mask as a 1930s-40s yellow suit
-Peggy Schuyler as a Edwardian picnic dress
-Holly Golightly in a 1910s dress?
-Lorelei Lee's pink dress in a 1900s or maybe in a rocco style?
-Hadestown Persephone as a 1920s-30s dress.
-Hermione Granger in her Yule Ball gown as a 1910s gown?
-Catwoman in a 1980s inspired suit?

I feel like her new pillowcases are watching as she literally pulls the thrift ones apart from seam to seam and are thinking "My God, she's a monster!"
And after she had a bedding sponsor too! But it can be seen as respectful, give old bedding new life instead of land fill and then go shop for nice new bedding. Gotta try this idea.

Right now, in my beloved country 🇨🇴 we’re having a really hard time. The social anxiety and constant violence on the news and social media (due to the riots) are emotionally draining me... Thank you for being so laid back and real and funny ..and for giving us a place to enjoy simple pleasures like clothing with pockets or comfty bedding... or comfty clothes out of bedding items
2/3 garments turning out gorgeous is impressive, equally impressive is how every joke in todays video got a laugh out me. Rachels comedic timing is the underdog of her videos
Rachel last time: "I need to give myself more time" Rachel now: "I made these in 2-3 days". Take a break for afternoon tea!
“Thanks! It’s pillowcases!” will be the new, “Thanks! It has pockets!” #CallingItNow
New challenge - pillowcases and has pockets!!! 🤯
What if we combine them??
Under normal circumstances, my OCD would absolutely not be okay with that plaid pattern matching. However, I have spent entirely too much time trying to convince my OCD that its FINE because it's still, in fact, equally spaced, just shifted alignment. The lengths I have just gone to have suddenly made me understand the fervor of KPop fandoms on the internet.
I have [mostly dormant] OCD too, and the dilemma between "plaid = easy cutting" and "matching the pattern when I sew it" is very real
You need to remake the top with a red pillowcase and then you'll have a super cute Winnie the Pooh cosplay outfit for Summer.

Sixth Doctor, but make it vintage.
Although she seems largely unaware of it, this young woman's productions are astonishingly competent and appealing to the viewer, whether sewing-knowledgeable or not:. All of her videographic idiosyncracies -- the sly self-deprecation, the doggie subtitles, the jarring non sequiturs, the brilliant jump cuts, and countless other features of her (apparently instinctive) style -- conspire to make Rachel Maksy episodes supremely watchable. Multiple times. She is a true CZcams joy and pleasure. Many CZcams creators are smart, skilled, and useful. Maksy, however, defines a unique category, one for which I am grateful, and I'm sure I am not alone in that.

I'd actually love to see the plaid jumper in 4 different plaids, just to really get that patchwork doll effect. I think it would be hekkin cute.
Another great use for pillowcases: use the fabric to make a bunch of pockets to add to dresses, skirts and pants that don't have them built in. Or you could make a gored skirt pretty easily. ♡ love this video.

Three challenges per episode: 1. (unseen) Pattern Challenge, where they literally give you a paper pattern and there's a full haberdashery; 2. Transformation Challenge, where they give you used stuff (ranging from men's suits to lightweight tents, depending on the challenge) and you have to make a new thing (ranging from cocktail dress to children's hallowe'en costume); 3. Made To Measure, where you have an actual living, breathing model and they have to be ready to walk five hours later (could be an evening dress or a men's work jacket). They can only prepare for the Made To Measure, but knowing the week's theme probably helps a bit - is it children's, is it summer, is it unconventional materials, etc.
