    Just finished the preamble/intro & excited to watch the rest of the video but I wanted to jump in & say what a great idea it is to play the two handed solo game on BGA! One small nitpik I have had w/ BGA is the limted number of games in their library that play solo....hopefully that can be addressed going forward but until then playing two handed is a way to extract even more value out of my account there. So thanks for the idea!

      One of my main reasons for doing this; a lot of people want to explore the game without random competition. This is such a good way to see how the game unfolds without distraction.

    I am an avid owner of a physical copy of the game with every expansion, and I love it! I have just finished to play a three-player game, which I won, on BGA and I feel so satisfied with the experience! It is exquisitely been transferred to the digital platform. I really hope we will get the new servants in a future update! Very well done!

    I just finished the full video after several days watching, it was really enlightening and interesting ! Thanks a lot for this amazing content, can’t wait to have my copy of the game in my mother tongue ( Spanish ) soon this year by Maldito Games ! Congrats for that too.

    I just watched the intro and I agree about the base game. When I got the game I bought everything because I didn't want to run the risk of expansions being out of print when I wanted them. After playing the base game many times and with UD many times (and mixing in some promos from time to time) we went back to playing with just the base game. We use all the tiles and all the cards that will work with base + Essex and that's it. I don't know how to explain it but it just seems like the base game is the sweet spot and UD adds just enough to make it kind of unwieldy for us. I haven't played on BGA yet but I'm sure I will. I love solo Obsession for PC too.

      You've found your sweet spot! I think people also can take bits and pieces from expansions; I believe Obsession is a sandbox, and that the core mechanics (the interplay between reputation, activities, guests, and servants) survives all manner of house rules. For example, I frequently play the base game with newer players with a Hall Boy or a Head Housemaid on starting staff. This initiates them into supplemental service and provides some mitigation on guest draws or money tightness. Play in that sandbox!

      @@kayentagamesdanhallagan856 Thanks for that, that's actually a great idea. Mix in one or two of the UD characters. Never even thought of that. I will add that I'm starting to feel this way about all expansions. There are a couple that are essential (like Tuscany for Viticulture or Norwegians for Feast for Odin) but in general I've found that they add bloat in more cases than not. I don't consider Upstairs Downstairs to be bloat but it seemed like a different game with that stuff added. Can't wait for your next kickstarter.

      For Cavendish, my goal would be to acquire and play a PR 2 tile in Season 1-hopefully one with courtship impact-and I would probably avoid purchasing any PR1 tiles (my path would be jumpstarted). For Asquith, I would not worry about playing the Front Parlour in Season 1 and draft money/invites without respect to gender.

    When I was learning the game, I would play all four families, in solo mode… I was frazzled by the end

      If your goal is to learn the game, wouldn't it be much more beneficial to play 2 handed twice instead of 4 handed once?

    • @kayentagamesdanhallagan856
      @kayentagamesdanhallagan856  Před rokem

      @@monkeyunit4533 I may have misread Simon's comment. I don't think there is a need to play all the families to learn the game. The asymmetric powers are minimal (a nice starting direction), but the game plays the same with any family. I agree it is good to play two-handed solo instead of 4-handed solo (of 5-handed solo, if using Wessex) to learn the families. As you can see from my playthrough, even 2-handed solo gets complex as the game ramps up. I don't think I would do 4-handed solo.

      I was really curious about how each of the families played out in various games. So I played about 20 4 family solo games. I kept the results on a spreadsheet… and I was in love with the game! What’s a man to do when he’s in love?

    Hello, I love the game and played a lot on BGA but one thing is implemented wrong if I’m right and that’s the fact that you need to pay the negative favors of the guests. And no matter if it’s prestige or money. I wrote that already in the forum but as far as I know it’s not changed till today.

    • @kayentagamesdanhallagan856
      @kayentagamesdanhallagan856  Před rokem +2

      You have to pay money for a pauper guest, and, if you do not have money, you cannot invite them. However, IF you do not have any reputation, you are permitted host guests that have a reputation penalty. The rule is stated in the Rulebook, pg 9, right-hand side: "If the player has no reputation (level 1, position 1), she may invite guests with negative reputation without paying the penalty; being so disreputable themselves, the family is free to consort with other unsavoury characters. If it is possible to pay a partial penalty (i.e., player is at level 1, position 2 with Miss Hawkins above attending an activity), the player must pay whatever penalty is possible until they reach the lowest reputation level."

    • @manuelmay768
      @manuelmay768 Před rokem +1

      @@kayentagamesdanhallagan856 ouch, that difference I wasn’t aware tbh. So maybe it has already changed on BGA but as far as I know you can’t invite guest when you would go lower than 1.1 in prestige.
      I had that in my first plays in December 2022 and wrote it to the forum in BGA that this is wrong implemented. But since then never had the luck of an early draw of a „moneylady“ 😅

    can somebody please help? I cannot find the rule in the rulebook that the AI always gets a VP card (I've got 2nd edition) like here czcams.com/video/6Gjs_UjUHDY/video.html Is this a variant?

    • @kayentagamesdanhallagan856
      @kayentagamesdanhallagan856  Před rokem +1

      Page 14 in the Obsession rulebook: "If the SP
      wins, she secures the VP card and Fairchild card per normal. If she loses, the top VP
      card is placed face-down (no looking) next to the Solitaire opponent’s card. Those
      points will be added to the base score in large black print on the Solitaire opponent’s
      card during end game scoring. If the courtship is a tie, both the SP and the opponent
      receive a VP card."
