    Hi Julia this is so cute and would make a wonderful Mother’s Day or birthday gift for some lucky lady. I love using clothes lines and they can be found all over the place on my work. I made my lovely daughter-in-law a peg bag and a little make up purse using my granddaughters’ old dresses on the washing lines - she was so thrilled with these gifts. I really adore the whimsical details you add Julia you always bring something fresh and new to your work - so inspiring for us all. I hope you had a really fabulous holiday and the weather has settled a little for you all. Thank you for a great video Julia you always brighten my day. Big hugs and loves xxxxxxxx🙋🏻😘❤️ Dorothy

      Hi Dorothy, I love clotheslines too- there's just something about them. I love, love, love your idea about using fabric from your granddaughter dress for the clothesline dresses. What a wonderful, meaningful gift. We are leaving Fl today and are heading back to the freezing cold of MN. I'm not looking forward to the cold and snow but I really miss my sewing machine! LOL. Have a good week. Julia

    Hi Julia I may have a great tip for everyone that enjoys these "shabby" fabrics - I buy DROP CLOTHS @ Walmart! They are have a really nice hand, off white, flecks of color @ times, slubby, cotton, textured, some have imperfections that need to be cut out or not. Get the largest one 6'x20' or something for $12!

    Could you please tell again: what is in your waterbrush instead of water? I love this technique. I really want to give it a try!

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  Před 6 lety

      Hi, I use a fabric medium in the water brush. I use the GAC900 by Golden but there are many other brands. Your craft store should carry it. It is a bit heavier than water so the the paint or dye does not seep into the fibers. After it is dried you heat seat it so it's washable. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    what kind of machine do you have? However, I know you are a professional. :-)

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  Před 5 lety

      Hi, most sewing machines are capable of doing the free-motion stitching. You have to disengage the feed dogs. This is either by lowering them with a lever or placing a plastic cover over them. Your manual should tell you how to lower the feed dogs. Also, you need a free motion quilting foot or a darner foot. If your machine did not come with the foot, you can purchase one to fit your machine. I have a Janome Memory Craft 8200. I also use a small Elna for sewing at craft shows etc. Hope this helps! Happy stitching. Julia

  • @Eclecticgardengirl

    Julia, I'm new to free motion embroidery and I love it! Do you suggest a sewing machine that really works well for free motion? Thanks!

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  Před 6 lety

      Hi, Most machines can free-motion. You need to be able to disengage the feed dogs, either by dropping them or covering with a plate. I have a small portable Elna that really does a great job and is not too expensive- around $350. Mine is several years old but I'm sure they still make a similar model. It only has a few utility stitches- no decorative stitches. Hope this helps- Julia
