My dad worked 80 hours a week running his own business and used his hard earned money to buy me silly things like the NES and Zelda. He passed away on 9-28-20 from a massive stroke after spending decades exposed to second hand smoke in his business. I'm sitting here watching this only now fully realizing how many sacrifices my dad made for me to be comfortable and happy. RIP dad :(

This game was long and difficult, but you have to consider those factors from a contemporary perspective. No internet walkthroughs and no multiplatform content overload like we have now. This was a game that even people like me with no attention span could rock for hours and hours. You didn't buy this premium game and get bored after a few hours. You bought it, and committed to beating it. The sense of adventure, the big maps, and the Zelda immersion put the hooks into you. It was just awesome.

Its a masterpiece alright, one of the hardest games ive played and still cant beat it, you needed nintendo power back in those days to stand a chance. People think bc its primitive that its a cake walk, they wouldnt even make it to the first dungeon or even have a clue how to get there

Dunno about y'all but I grew up poor as shit. I was lucky enough to have a Nintendo but we couldn't afford a bunch of games for it. Renting this from the Blockbuster for a few days was seriously the highlight of my childhood the few times my mom could swing it.
Love watching these playthroughs now that I'm grown up and well enough off to have a PS4 and a ton of games that I don't play so I can watch random people on the Internet play 34 year old games I couldn't afford as a kid instead.

My family could also barely afford an NES. For the first few years we would borrow games from friends, and at some point a friend donated a box full of NES games to us that he no longer wanted. Around that time we were able to afford The Legend of Zelda. That game was one of the very few that we ever bought with our own money. I picked it out as a Christmas present when I was around 9 or something. Prior to that I had dabbled with it at various friends' houses, as well as Zelda II. I never really liked Zelda II and never made a point to get it for myself, but I messed around with it at friends' houses enough that the music has made it into my childhood psyche.

I was so proud when I finally beat this game back in 1987 I was 16 and it took me a while. I remember actually calling that Nintendo gamer help line because I was stuck in the “lost woods” for days. I was literally addicted to this game. It just pulled me in. I remember that music from level 9 was so cool. I was playing day and night to finally beat the game so I could take a picture of tv showing the end of the game and submit it to Nintendo power and got my name published for berating Gannon. I was so proud of myself when I finished this game. But I can’t take all the credit. My Girlfriend (now my wife of 28 years) actually helped me beat those blue guards in level 5 to get the whistle to beat the level 5 boss. Those guys were a pita to kill because you had to get them at a side angle. Now I want to play it again. I still have it but the Nintendo system doesn’t work anymore. It just blinks red power lights on all my games. It’s funny I still remember the code to get to mike Tyson in mike Tyson’s punch out. He was another one who once you got past his minute and a half of deadly punches he was easy to beat. It was all about timing.

1:08:56 dungeon-6: this room is the location of the staff, you are supposed to move the left tile and a passage will appear underground. but also when you see an old man in a dungeon betting you would like some more bombs for 100 (like in dungeon-5), not only does he give you full stock on bombs, but he also increases the bag space by 4. so it goes from 8 bombs to 12, 12 to 16. otherwise this is the best walkthrough ive seen for this game. thanks you so much, you helped get 100 percent completion because i had no idea the overworld had so many hidden places

He missed the wand in level 6 and the book that results in the wand discharge ending in a candle flame. Very useful in rooms where you would want to hurl a projectile but your life isn't full so your sword doesn't hurl.

As a pre teen in the late 80's, I played a lot of video games. I mostly played sports games (especially Tecmo Bowl), but my all time favorite game to this day is the original Legend Of Zelda! Such a brilliant classic game! My 10 year old nephew was over the other day so I dusted off the old Nintendo and we played. Thanks to this video I was able to beat this game in July 2022 about 30+ years since the last time I did it. THANK YOU!!! Unbelievable how you won the entire game on just one life. It took me 5. Also, in level 8 when you were down to a half a heart and pulled it out. BRAVO!!! I also noticed you did it with just 8 bombs. I bought more bombs twice for a load of 16. You did show me one heart I was never able to find back in the day. So cool, thanks again!

I used to go to castle 1, die, castle 2, die again, castle 3, sword, castle 4 etc...i tried this new way and its so easy now!
