Looking good Chris, when you dig the heater unit out from behind the dash centre, replace the matrix with a mk1 Golf unit, it fits if you slightly modify the housing outlet area, the pipes are part of the golf matrix and can just be connected up with longer rubber pipes. The TR7/8 matrix's weak point is the inlet/outlet metal pipes pass through special rubber grommets. The pipes corrode and the rubber hardens leading to loss of seal, the golf matrix fixes that in one go fairly cheaply too.

@@chrisrobinson61 All good down here, my odometer stopped working although the speedo was ok. Had to resit the odometer in the console (3 screws) as it was a bit stressed, all ok in the end. Viper kit sounds great. My spark/ignition problem has now gone after fitting a 12V 3.0 Ohm coil! It still gets 'toasty' but runs a lot better.
Hang in there bud, the cars can take your mind of it, can't be easy fella. Get yourself down to Powderham Castle 8th/9th July and show at least one of your TR's, I'll be going and volunteering for the marshalling on Sat at least.

What can i expect for maintence on these cars and yearly costs? Does it need constant repairs and replacement parts? Im thinking of buying one but I dont want to have to have it in the shop after each use as someone told me. Id just be using it to go a couple miles (10 max) a couple times a week maybe longer on occassion. Can they be used in wet and wintery weather?

That's a lot of questions Michael.
The answers all depend on the condition of the car you purchase. A well looked after example will be like an other 40 year old vehicle. UK cars suffer from corrosion but mechanically very simple. Uf you find a car you're interested in, take it for a long test drive to see if it has any issues.
      Take care.

Sounds strong. Can I ask a question? I'm a beginner and my mechanic rebuilt my carbs. Now they flood out and bog down. I take the long thin allen wrench and adjust the needle length, any tips? It's a stock 78 TR7. Otherwise call him and I'm out the big bucks? S.F. Ca USA here.

Could be a few things. Is the Fuel pump delivering the correct pressure? Do the floats move freely? (you'll have to get them off the intake manifold). With them both off and turned upside down blow into the pipe that the fuel is delivered. Air will only pass when you lift the float. Let me know how you get-on.
      Kind regards.
