Let’s just take a moment to appreciate the diversity of different genres Serbia sent in last few years:
    Hurricane - Balkan Bop
    Konstrakta - Artistic piece
    Luke Black - Industrial Techno
    Teya Dora - Powerful Ballad
All sang in Serbian, but all totally different and unique in their own ways - it’s kinda wild range to me and I love it!! Serbia has become a Eurovision powerhouse
As far as Teya Dora - she was my favourite this whole preselection and I am over the moon she won 💜🌸 In a year of post Kaarija madness effect with all these crazy songs (who will battle against each other and split votes) this one will stand out no meter what draw she is in. She is in her own lane. It was very smart of Serbia to send this song in this year 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

The song 🎵 Ramonda = flower 🌸🌸🌸 metaphorically describes suffering of Serbian nation.
They suffered 5 centuries under Turkish occupation and managed to survive and save their identity.
In WW1 1/3 of the population and 60% of male population was murdered by Bulgarian, German and Austrian army...and they didn't announce a capitulation but the nation, led by the king went in an exile via hostile Albanian mountains. After all the suffering between 1914-1918, they returned back victorious and liberated all southern Slavic nations (Serbs, Croats, Slovenians, Macedonians) and created a South Slavic land (Yugoslavia).
Another genocide happened during WW2, more than 1 million Serbian people were brutally murdered in genocide, especially in the Jasenovac concentration camp 😪😪😪
Ramonda flower 🌸🌸🌸 symbolically describes Serbian nation ... they love freedom and will resist any Hegemon
      🕊✌️ 🕊

Just to clarify, there is no controversy in Serbia. She was 2nd in the televote.
Normal people love and support Teya Dora and were moved by her beautiful song and lyrics, which are about peace, hope rebirth, both on an individual level and collectively, with references to the tragedy our people faced in WW1, when we lost 1/4 of our population.
Teya Dora is a very talented and well respected artist, she majored in music at Berkeley music college, she composes music for herself and other singers, she writes lyrics and is a music producer.
The “controversy” was overblown by the media and a small but very vocal minority of people who wanted Breskvica to win. I have nothing against Breskvica, but her fan base is absolutely unhinged in general, mostly composed of young kids and recently of some nationalistic twats who were seduced by her rebranding into a etno/ church music singer to appeal to conservative people (whereas literally just a year ago she was singing about fast cars, drugs and partying and was making very urban and contemporary music). I wouldn’t give these people any more attention they deserve because they hate Eurovision and look down on it. I’m quite happy they lost 🤣

Ramonda is the name of a Serbian flower...it is also called "Fenix flower" because even when it is dry and dead, only one drop of water can revive the flower! It's a song about personal struggles in life and that there's also a hope for a better tomorrow. We can all rise like a phoenix from the ashes just like how flower Ramonda needs so little to revive again after being dead. The song also represent all how our people rose from the dead after WW1 and so many lives lost! Ramonda is our national flower! And yes, she is singing "Lila Ramonda" which means "Purple Ramonda"....the flower is purple in color. That is why you'll see many purple hearts in the comments 💜💜💜

I LOVE the build in this song. It drops out momentarily before the actual chorus (Nova also said this haha) its soooo beautiful and satisfying.
I put it into a similar category with Portugals entry - which is also beautiful, but i think the structure of this is just slightly more successful for me, a little more satisfying. Gorgeous!

  • @taezono7687

The runner up to PZE was a very nationalistic song with a lot of in-your-face imagery. It translated to ‘Eagle’s nest’, the singer was dressed like an eagle, there’s a huge eagle on the LEDs at the end, etc. It was potentially about either the NATO bombing of Serbia *or* Kosovo, you could make a case for both. I believe it was also endorsed by a far-right politician and used as sort of a symbol for nationalist groups. So, when it lost because of the jury, people were outraged. I seen a lot of hate for Teya Dora and a few members of the jury (including Marija Šerifović) because they had given Ramonda 12.
The whole drama was so absurd. Especially since Ramonda IS still a patriotic song, it’s just a lot more tasteful about it. I’m super happy it won, personally.

The bad comments are definitely just butthurt fans, as the person who got 2nd place has a very well established fanbase. Jury got Ramonda to 1st place, thank god. One of the jury members was Marija Šerifović herself and I even saw insults trown at her, along with a few comments of "what the hell does she know about what would do well at Eurovision"...as if ... she's not our one and only Eurovision winner. Jesus Christ lol.
Also good job at the lyrics overview, if anyone's interested there are very thorough explanations and translations in the comments of her music video, but I'm glad the core message is there! :) I'm very happy Teya Dora won PZE and I hope she does well in May.

Hi guys, so just a little info about the lyrics, Ramonda is a flower that grows in Serbia, its endemic to Serbia, and its known as the phoenix flower, because of its ability to fully come back to life after being almost completly whitered, with just a few drops of water. It is used as a symbol for honoring the deaths of a lot of brave soldiers that sacraficed their lifes for Serbia in the first World war, where Serbia lost 1/3 of their population. Teya said that it is such a nice methaphore for a lot of things in life, and every person can make it their own where they use it for their struggles that they have overcome, where they have been so close to giving up but that one thing, made them whole again. And about the hate comments, they are mostly from Serbian fans who stan Breskvica and serbian nationalists who wanted her to go to eurovision, and started leaving so many hate comments on Teya's socials. There were also talks of protests to send Breskvica and not Teya even tho she won fair and square.

The opening scene of the song, featuring Teodora seated on a rock amidst the serene waters, serves as a poignant tribute to the Greek island of Corfu and the surrounding Ionian Sea, often referred to as the "blue tomb" of many Serbian soldiers who found their final resting place there during World War I. This historical backdrop adds depth to the narrative, highlighting the significance of this location in Serbian history and collective memory.
Additionally, the presence of the ramonda flower in the song carries profound symbolism. This flower, known as the symbol of the truce in World War I, holds a special significance as the national flower of Serbia. It embodies themes of strength, resilience, and rebirth, as it has the remarkable ability to revive with just a single drop of water, earning it the moniker of the phoenix flower. Beyond its historical connotations, the ramonda flower also serves as a potent symbol of hope, particularly in the context of mental health struggles, signifying the possibility of finding light even in the darkest of times.

A lovely song, but a lullaby at eurovision, I'm really curious how this will do. I love at least 4 songs more than this one from their awesome final (and semi)finals, but I hope it will do well.
I think there is something political going on in Serbia, many people are pissed that another type of nationalistic song (I can't rememeber the name) that kind of represents the conservative party's stance on things didn't win because the last jury member went all in on Ramonda and zero points for that other song, I heard this from a Serbian content creator.
I personally think this is a lot better as a nationalistic song, I mean this flower is very symbolic in Serbia.

While I would I agree that Serbia has lots of nationalists (even tough I wouldn’t say it’s more nationalist than other Balkan countries), I thought that this year’s PZE sent a completely opposite, more inclusive message. PZE had Kat Dosa, who’s of Portuguese-Angolan origin from her mother’s side, Martina, who’s Croatian, Zejna singing about being proud of the colour of her skin (she is Romani, as well as Dušan Kurtić), Filarri sang about men embracing their femininity, etc. And I think that’s great. The girl that won the popular vote had all those people screaming not just because of nationalism but also because she’s extremely popular with adolescents (not just in Serbia, but in the neighbouring countries, too) who were not mature enough to accept that she lost. They even organised a protest, but no one came.

Hey, thanks for the info, everyone!
I understand Serbian and I've done some research. Also when speaking, Teya Dora puts the stress on the first syllable, but the other people I've listened to, like journalists interviwing her, put the stress on the second syllable (on "o"). You can hear this difference here, for example:
      czcams.com/video/jsOc3tl7ut4/video.html
The presenters at Pesma za Evroviziju also put the stress on the "o", so that's why I assumed it was pronounced that way.
Well, it seems to me that even native speakers of Serbian can't agree on how to pronounce the word. Get your sh*t together, Serbs! 😉

    • @hey_loranda
      @hey_loranda Před 3 měsíci

@@boruttrost5750 well, basically we have like 10 dialects, they all sound different. But serbian language is phonetic, so pronunciation doesn’t matter, we don’t put stress on syllables, you can say it whenever you want. Hope this helps.
Edit: one more thing, we don’t really use the word ramonda in regular day to say speak, most people just heard that word for the first time now only because of Teya Dora. So ye, people pronounce it the way they want 😂
