Great Big Rollin Big Boy
It's Big Boy 4014, A train that everyone should know!
It was built in New York’s ALCO plant, So many years ago!
It's the biggest locomotive, The world has ever seen
It's Big Boy 4014, and it's making history!
From its home at Rail giants, To the roundhouse in Cheyenne
Through Utah and Wyoming Where restoration soon began
As promised it returned again in 2019,
It's Big Boy 4014, and it's making history.
Bound for Ogden, and Chicago, California and Tucson
And many more destinations on the Union Pacific line
There's an echo in the canyons, you can hear that whistle blow,
It’s Big Boy 4014 and it’s a-pullin' a heavy load!
Thundering through the deserts, to the mountains and the plains
Fired up and ready to roll, back to full throttle steam
Up the Sherman Hill and the Wasatch, you can see him make that climb!
It’s Big Boy 4014 and he’s movin at record time
Yeah, big boy 4014 and he’s movin at record time

The Altar Billies are a trio from Orange County California fronted by guitarist/vocalist Michael W Stand. Rounding out the group are Johnny X on upright and Chuck Cummings on Drums. The group covers many classics hits, as well as newly penned originals.
The fellas have been playing all over Southern California for coming up to 10 years now. They've enjoyed such venues as the Anaheim House of Blues, The Observatory in Costa Mesa, Orange Street Fair, Silverado Canyon concert series, as well as many clubs in the OC area. They have also opened several times for local OC icon Big Sandy, as well as for Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats..
The group has released several singles recorded live at NRG studios in Hollywood (recording studio for such acts as No Doubt and John Fogerty). Both "Hold on" and "You Can't Look Up, when you're Look'n Down" are available on itunes and on youtube via the "Altar Billies CZcams Channel."
In 2014 they released their first full length project: "Head'n Out West" Each song on "Head'n out West" is a testament to the band's firm believe in God, family and country. There is more to this group than meets the eye, as this 15 song musical adventure sought to establish the group as a viable and serious rockabilly/ Americana act. "Head'n out West" brings plenty to the table and more, in a "Spirit of lightening" that will surely keep you rock'n, dance'n, shake'n and move'n.
2016 found the fellas hitting the trail once again with their latest release: “Long, Long Road.” With this project the group has fine-tuned their sound so that it is “as sharp as a tack.” “Long, Long Road” finds Michael W expanding his songwriting skills to incorporate aspects of swing jazz with songs such as “Hot,” “Tumbleweed,” and “Hot (Big Band Version).”
The Altar Billies are proud to carry the rockabilly torch and keep this musical heritage alive, and relevant. They are 3 swell guys that work hard, play together really well and have a good time in the process, and "yes" they like trains." - Hudba
it's the altar billies, and they're makin music for you 'n' me!
i love the new version of great big rollin railroad to! maybe southern pacific roll on should do a remake dedicated to the cab foward(AC-12) or the AC-9
I live in Trieste, Italy...I'm a old railroad modeller, and I have working for 40 yeras in Italian Railways ( long time ago F.S, now Trenitalia). I have raid with italian steam locomotives, type Gr. 740 and (ex-Austrian) Gr 728, but in my roundhouse the Queen is one Big Boy, a Rivarossi model H0, from year 1968....my dream of teenager, but at your time, your price are so high...excuse my bad language, I'm learned yourself...Big Boy is for me the beautiful steam engine of all the world, the Queen of steams locomotives! Roll on Big Boy!
Awesome!! Great to hear from you all the way from Italy!! Big Boy 4014 has made history and more!!!!
OMG! A Big Boy 4014 Version of Great Big Rollin Railroad! This is the PERFECT song for the Big Boy!
Indeed it is,, Thank you so much for the compliment. We worked really hard on this song and video..thanks for spreading the good word!!
Totally. PLEASE keep them coming!
A song I didn't know I needed in my life until I heard it.
But you know what?
We needed this this year.
indeeed we do brotha...we wanted to do a song to help bring a little smile and joy to people's hearts...glad we can help in some small way make the world a little better
I too am one of the lucky ones who got my chance to record the 1970's Union Pacific TV Commercial jingle. For their UP150 Commercial remake videos in 2012! Fun song! I too am a new songwriter of my own original train songs several of which I've written for Union Pacific as well as for my friends Ed Dickens, Austin Barker, and Ted Schulte! I got to play my song I call "IT'S ALRIGHT" before Ed and Lance Fritz in Evanston, WY when they were leaving for Ogden 2 yrars ago today matter of fact on the morning of May 8, 2019! And Ed had me play for him again in West Chicago on July 27, 2019 next to Big Boys auxillary driver wheels while he lay flat on his back greasing the axles behind me! Then Ed had me play for him again at Kansas City Union Station November 18, 2019! I wrote "IT'S ALRIGHT" February 14, 2011 from a dream about 5 grand pianos on the track siding beside a giant UP Steamlocomotive idling behind them for the tall engineer "who asked me to play my song" in my dream! May 29, 2011 I met Ed there in the same way I dreamed I did---only the 5 grand pianos weren't there but 844 was! Then in July of 2012 when 844 was there facing West this time, I was sketching 844's firemans side firebox stay bolts sitting alongside 844 when Ed came up from behind me overlooking my left shoulder like the tall engineer did in my dream, as my dreams song came channeling into my minds ear I wrote right there on my sketching "My Song---Ed's song---"IT'S ALRIGHT" while he sat down beside me as his Steamcrew greased the axles before us! My dreams come true! And later on August 17, 2016 while I was on my Greyhound bus with my brand new Yamaha DGX-660 portable grand piano packed up inside a LOWE'S refrigerator box custom cut to fit around it by Reggie the Kanas City Bus Terminal Supervisor on the lobby floor 1 hour before he loaded into the cargo hold underneath the bus below my seat I was Birmingham-bound having passing through Saint Louis to Nashville, when I had my dream about the Milwaukee Road #261 of which at the time I did not know was going to be restored to operations, I dreamed 261 was arriving into Carbondale, Illinois Amtrak station with its headlight being the .225 karat Canary Yellow Tiffany Diamond sting down onto the track ballast composed of UP Armour Yellow solid Gold nuggets shaped like brass steamlocomotive footings a shinin in the Diamonds yellow light! The nemberboards were of blue Sapphires with Opal 261 numbers! It's Mars Light was an giant rare Russian Ruby as it's ditchlights were of white Tiffany diamonds! The green signal light was an giant Brazillian Emerald all aglow just as I awakened from my dream as out my bus window I could see the Southbound Amtrak City of New Orleans train arriving into Carbondale of which we took on 6 passengers bound for Nashville who all were working on the NC&Stl#576 Restoration---of which I was already writing a song about at the time! I was heading to Birmingham to meet someone whom I would compose my dreams song he wrote my lyrics I never got to record as I did my other original train songs already in Copywrite later that same year on December 7, 2016--one of which was "IT'S ALRIGHT!" Perhaps we might collaborate one day as well! Love your sound Altarbillies! You Rock On!!!!~Susan Lary

This is on my bucket list to see this beast of a machine in person
It is quite a sight to see in person!
Amazing work of all of us with the lyrics & music choice! You're welcome for the inspiration Mike & the rest of the band
Thank you again for getting me started on this idea - we appreciate it!
@@TheAltarBillies you need a song about the changes and Union Pacific's paint scheme from the 1st (like on 7291), 2nd (like on 9647), 3rd (like on 5395) and 4th (like on 7245) in that same tune, I MIGHT be able to come up with the lyrics but don't know.
@@TheAltarBillies I think I got it
It's the Altar Billies coming, with more music to hear
We always have brand new songs, to play every upcoming year
But today we'll teach ya somethin', you might not have heard and seen
It's the fact that the UP, has brought out a new paint scheme
The first one includes the good ole, famous UP shield
One thing 'bout the railroad, that has never failed
It's all made of 3 colors, yellow red 'n gray
Yet look a' that!, it's still rolling through today
Break
Back in late 2001, the Union Pacific decided
"it's time to remember one specific time, for all those who have died!"
So let's return again and see what we can do
"OH, we can add a waving flag to the long hood and add wings to the front"
But until late 2022, they decided again
To redo their paint scheme, to something we'd all like!
They then came up with making, two different schemes
One on 53-95, one on 72-45
To keep the flag on the engines, they decided to move it
To the side of the nose, where it would then stand
And returning on the long hood, would be the famous
The gothic "Union Pacific" font, which will stay forever

Very cool!!
Best train song in years! I play this song in my car all the way to work and then I look down at my speedometer and see I am doing 80 mph...oops! I wish there was an karaoke track available for this. I would love to sing this one. It is absolutely one of my all-time favorite train songs now.
Thank you so much. We worked really hard on this one. We also wrote a song called "Ballad of the Big Boy,." adopted by Union Pacific as the "unofficial" anthem for 4014. UPRR used it to open their "spike150" ceremony in Ogden in May 2019. Karaoke version? That's a good idea!!
@@TheAltarBillies Yes, I have heard your Ballad of the Big Boy as well. I love that you recorded it on the 4014 before the restoration. I am guessing you did that on purpose since the 4014 was slated to be restored. I love both of these songs and if you ever make a karaoke track available for either one of these (or both of them), I would probably be close to first in line to buy it!
@@BarryH1701 Yes...we were able to get permission from rail giants to film our video on 40i4 literally the day before Ed and the Union Pacific steam team took possession...don't think we'll ever get access to the poop deck on the 4014 again - Ed is kind of touchy about is Choo-choo, and rightly so!!

YESSSSS SIR!!
A superb adaptation of the Union Pacific Anthem to be specific to 4014. I still remember when he came to Texas, stopping in my hometown of Fort Worth. Saw him in person and I'll never forget it.
What a legend. I still can't believe I saw him in person, it's one of my favorite memories which I will never forget.
Yes, the restoration of 4014 is such a fantastic story and an over the top feat! Ed Dickens and his crew truly pulled of a miracle. Many said it couldn't be done, but they did it anyway. So glad you got to see 4014 in person, after all: "it's Big boy 4014 and he's making history!!!"
@@TheAltarBillies Indeed, a miracle I will never get over.
Every time I visit the spot the Big Boy was at, I can still see him present as if it was the same day.
He's still "mighty, tall and handsome" as another train legend goes, "and known quite well by all".
Big Boy 4014 is a true legend who will likely never die!
I always knew the UP Steam Crew could get a Big Boy back on track. It IS Union Pacific after all - and if they can't do it, NO ONE can!

Although the lyrics are “her home at RailGiants” I like to believe it says “her tomb at RailGiants” as it kind of was trapped in the fairgrounds

Man you guys rocked it about the Union Pacific Big Boy #4014 in this song! Love the 50s rock style you went with and it follows the melody with Union Pacific's "Great Big Rollin' Railroad" song very closely throughout, and if you listen closely, it has a similar melody to the jazzy version of James' Theme from Thomas the Tank Engine in parts of it. At the time you made this song however, the Big Boy #4014 didn't go to Chicago, at least not yet in preservation. It did however go to West Chicago, which is a separate city in the tri-state Chicago area of Illinois from Chicago proper.
Thanks..appreciate the good word. We have done a rockabilly version of the original version of "Great Big Rollin Railroad, and decided to do a parody of the song that honored Big Boy 4014. Actually someone posted a comment on our youtube channel with a few lines and we finished it off. Thanks you again for giving our song a listen..here is the remake we do of the original song - it was recorded live in the studio. czcams.com/video/ua_BdQvjoAM/video.html
I love big boy
Technically there were a few locos which were bigger, although experimental and not world renowned.
Triplex engines which featured 8-8-8 drive configuration
And Russia (because of course its Russian) featured a 14 drive wheel
*I can't remember the wheel configuration exactly so I just noted the number of drive wheels. Don't yell.
