      @muddyhotdog4103 Před 4 lety +2

      Springfield is a bought out name these days, not the same as the early u.s military asenal; they live off the name and piece together firearms from cheap parts makers, many not even located in the US.. honestly as far as ar15s go, if you want a good one stick with bcm, daniel defense, solgw, fn, ect.. better parts and qc.

      @muddyhotdog4103 Před 3 lety +3

      @@billycole852 Being accessorized with a Bcm stock and grip doesn't make it anything of a bcm rifle. Especially not where it counts -ie the barrel, bcg, upper/lower recievers, and other parts.
      Edit: and yes I'm sure their ar's are 100% US made, it wouldn't make sense to buy parts for that type of rifle when there is such a buyers market for ar15 parts here in the USA. But most of their other offerings are NOT made fully in the US such as m1a, XD, ect

      What you are really buying when you buy a long gun from Savage is the excellent inherent in their receivers, triggers/fire-control groups, and barrels. Blackhawk is part of the same consortium which owns Savage, which is why their ARs use BH furniture and accessories. Every Savage rifle I have ever own has been an absolute tack-driver - highly-accurate right out of the box. They routinely outshoot guns costly 2-3x as much. So, if you feel that the Savage more accurate than the SA carbine, get the Savage and simply swap out the furniture for some Magpul or whatever it is you want. I used to work in the retail FA industry, and never had any complaints from customers who bought Savage products from us. Just my two cents...

    I like parts of both guns, for me I like the flash hider over a muzzle brake, I prefer the A2 gas block and front sight over the flip up front sight, I prefer the non free float barrel (I am not worried about the half MOA difference it might make at 100 yards), I like the heavier barrel. Now I like the edges qd sling attachment points on it's receiver, and it's styling. I like the oversized charging handle, and the trigger on the edge. Overall I guess I am glad I went with the original saint for what I use it for, slinging alot of lead at between 50 and a 100 yards at my range.

I would have loved to see the victor too I think more people are interested in that and the edge for the price upgrade between the two the victor is kind of a no brainer and it seems to be the same for the edge. For around $1100 I really don’t think you can find a complete rifle out of the box I think I’m going to pony up the few hundred extra and go with the edge I couldn’t believe how flat shooting and light it was I knew by the end of the first mag that was probably going to be the one I looked into iwi, sig, DD and the Springfield to me seems to be the best value the edge isn’t going to have me ordering parts online when I buy the rifle to change out other than a light and optic it seems to be ready to go I might switch out the charging handle for a raptor or something of the sort but I’m right handed so it’s not a huge deal. If you have the budget the edge can’t be matched for the money

    A lighter weaker barrel is never an upgrade. People need to do some curls, push ups and forearm exercises if you find an AR-15 too heavy. The heavy barrel on the edge would have earned my money. Being a Springfiled owner myself, im looking into one of the 3 made. I own a near mint M1 Garand all original with matching numbers throughout. I added a National Match barrel for some odd reason. Springfield Bench Tested my firearm & said the original barrel has thousands of rounds left to be fired. After headspace adjustment, Parkerized to match the new barrel, cost less then $300. Now just want to upgrade my Mil Spec 1911 A1 .45acp. Looking at the 1911 PX9116LP .45acp. Thanks for the info, any suggestions about the Free Float Saint, im listening. Im back and forth on $715 for Original Saint compared to $1100 for Edge. • @justplainbob7066
      @justplainbob7066 Před 5 lety +1

      I own the Free Float and the Edge. Being a longtime Springfield fan I was excited about the Saint but did not pull the trigger on getting the Gen 1 because I already had 2 DPMS entry level AR's and the Saint Gen 1 with gas block stationary sight and standard forend, they were too similar to the DPMS's.
      I was hoping for something that didn't need to spend a lot more money on modifications. Then came the Free Float! At first look it was my dream come true I traded both DPMS's in on a Free Float. Solid platform without the need for a lot of mods and out of the box have shot several thousands of rounds through it. Only added a sling and optics and shot 25 , 50, 100, 300 yds ranges without any gun related issues. Very reliable and fun to shoot.
      I was skeptical of the Edge being already happy with the Free Float until I shot my buddy's Edge. Dang! There is a huge difference in triggers and bought one for my own and haven't had a regret. Put 600 rounds down range with it yesterday without any issue. Put 300 rounds through the Free Float too and no issues. I was sighting in new optics on the Edge but they didn't seem as fun as old optics on the Free Float so it was a good day at 100 & 200 yards with both guns.
      Personally, I am happy I waited. My buddy with the Gen 1 shot my Free Float and was hoping he had waited too. By the time you add a forend, rails, sling adapter you'd have more invested then going with a Free Float. Add the trigger and a few other mods to move to the Edge and for $1000-$1200 (about the going price range for the Edge) you can't go wrong! There are likely better more expensive AR's and less priced / less featured AR's going the other way but the Edge is a great gun and the Free Float is right there for the money ($800-$1000) too. Neither the Free Float or Edge didn't kill the bank account and has been fun and reliable since day one!

    The pencil barrel of the EDGE is similar to the 1st Mini14. As accurate as throwing rocks. I haven't fired my Edge enough to see how heating the barrel does. But I remember the mini14 being great running, loved it, but not accurate at all.

    Went to Chris's shop on Saturday to get my hands on an Edge. Asked for him to go over it. He told me all about it as if he had built it. I knew immediately I was going home with it. After the paperwork and a swipe of the plastic, he admitted that he up loaded the video the night before. Sorry gang. The one in the video is mine. This was my first transaction with Chris. I will definitely be back.

      If you plan on using a CA Compliant Maglock/kingpin setup, the edge is more limited because they moved the rear kingpin detent to come up from below instead of from behind. AR Maglock's Hyperswitch should work, but their other Kingpins will not. I also tried Cross Armory's quick pins, but because of the rear QD sling mount points, the quick pins doesnt work on the Edge.

    One mistake I heard was that the original and the edge were both forged upper and lower receivers. Only the original Saint has forged upper and lower. The Upper on the edge is forged, but the lower is billet. Forged is a stronger final product than billet aluminum and forged is Mil-Spec...billet is not. Otherwise, I think you were spot on.

    I dont care fore lightweight profile barrels UNLESS it done like Faxon did with their Gunner series,..and fancy lightening cuts,..ehh they don't really do anything for performance for a fighting rifle,..just throw a midwest drop-in handguard on it. Id keep the barrel and A2 post of the original,... its bomb proof.

    • @muddyhotdog4103
      @muddyhotdog4103 Před 4 lety

    Caution 9310 is more sensitive to heat treatment it is only stronger than 158cm of its perfectly treated but oftentime they are not. 9310 is much cheaper to source. You are widening your margin of trust in manufacturing quality control when you buy 9310 bolt.

    I have the original and have shot many AR’s and for all practical purposes I don’t see the reason to pay more. Nether one is a competition rifle and wasn’t meant to be one. They are both good for the intended purpose...and both for the price you get great builds out of both. In practically I do not see why I would pay more to have a few ounces shaved or to have a more modern looking gun....that’s just my opinion from another owner....!
