    I had never really spent time with my dad before. He's amazing and all but he's the tough guy construction worker type and I'm a skinny nerd. We don't share any interest BUT, thanks to your channel, I was able to assemble some gym equipement AND spend time with my dad. On top of that he only sighed at my lack of manly skills twice. We laughed about it, it was a great time.

    • @michaell8624
      @michaell8624 Před 5 lety

      Chandler McAdory, absolutely. Two 2x4 will be a bit narrower on the laminated side (remember, 4x4 is really 3.5x3.5, and 2x4 is 1.5x3.5), but that shouldn't matter for this project.
      Plain wood glue will make an extremely strong bond with such a large gluing surface, no need for scews.

It was all of you that made it possible -thank you and thank you for the awesome comments. I'm reading the comments thinking I've gotta get busy here; so many things to build. Thanks too for the dudes who catch things like the pressure treated would we used cause diyDuke made a bad cut and it was Sunday so we improvised as the lumber yard was closed. Or the term stub, instead of nipple for the inch and a half pipe, I guess it was my eighth grade humor that kicked in but I couldn't say nipple without cracking up thinking about the comments that dudes would come up with. Thanks so much again. Stay BUFF.

    Thanks Buff Dudes!
    So I built one of these with handsaw, It's pretty awesome, it's just a shame I don't need it anymore because my hands are super buffed from all that sawing :D
    Seriously, if you plan on building one of these either rent a miter saw or table saw, or better yet, for the same price as rental someone will probably cut all of it for you. Using handsaw takes forever, and what is worse, you rarely get nice and square cut.
    Get long enough drill to drill the holes from one side only, its extremely hard to mate the holes if you need to finish it from other side. Other thing to consider is I bought rough wood, which means I got a lot more extra work with sanding, so if you can, buy sanded wood. For color I used dark varnish, so I can still see the wood grain. Hope these tips help, good luck! Stay buffed

      oh and I forgot the pipes for safety, and holding the bar, all in all it was about 200€. Since then I got a bit more into working with metal, so now I'd probably made it from metal. it would look sleeker and metal frame can support more holes, meaning better adjustability without being much more expensive, if at all. But at the and I am glad I made it from wood since I got it in my room, and wood makes it much more quiet, also I got 4cm rubber underneath, the bar holders are wrapped in cloth and I got rubber coated plates

      Reductive animation of phenylacetone and methylamine. Phenylacetone is a list 1 chemical now but you can produce it via dehydrocarboxylation of phenylacetic acid and acetic acid. Chances are it won't be blue, but it's the method used in Breaking Bad. Can't really go into detail, but there's loads of research online

  • @RandomsforFuns
    @RandomsforFuns Před 9 lety +130

    Great, Great video. But a couple of suggestions that would be relevant for first-time woodworkers:
    -Advise pre-drilling (or using self-drilling screws) before putting any screws into wood to prevent cracking and splitting
    -Use wood glue on wood prior to putting in screws to ensure a good strong seal. Remember, it's the glue that holds wood together; screws are simply to pull the wood pieces together.
    These tips might be overkill but it can "make up" for any shortcomings made by improper cuts/lack of flushness/screws that didn't bite well (all mistakes made by first timers). Would hate to see wasted wood due to cracking/splitting, especially since most dudes looking to DIY are on a tight budget!

For anyone else looking at building a power rack out of wood, if you want to paint it, one extra step you can take is to paint each piece of wood before assembling with fasteners. Cut, pre-drill, paint, then screw everything together. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this!

    Just built one ... what a great idea ... so far so good. Purchased some tools but would rather have a power rack and tools than a power rack alone.
    The good:
    (1) sturdy and quiet
    (2) cheap
    (3) heavier than expected so doesn't seem to rock when you rack weights
    (4) plenty of room to move forward and back with the bar in the rack
    Bottom line ... rack itself is awesome. I'm playing with different pin/bar holder options because I don't like the 3/4 pipe, but they are working fine so far. Maybe the best part is that the excitement about the project got me working out again. Thank you for posting ... keep the videos coming.

    In place of the 4x4 corner supports, consider using 3/4" plywood triangular braces w. 12"-16" leg lengths placed on the outside of the frame members for improved rigidity. Also, 1" steel tubing will have considerably greater radial strength than the 3/4" pipe (same O.D.). Good job guys.

    I am building one of these right now and thought some of you might like this tip. In the holes that you put your "clips" or safety bars, drill the holes a bit larger and find some steel bushings that will still allow your clips or bars to slide through and pound them in there for some added durability. Also, if you are going to use anything over 300 lbs on it I would reccomend finding some solid steel bars for the safety bars instead of that black gas pipe. Also, consider bolting it to the ground or studs in the wall because while it is plenty strong it is also really lightweight and tends to rock when you put a heavy squat load back into the clips. Works pretty well though honestly. Not as "cool" as a sweet rouge rack but functional and cheap

I was so impressed with the czcams.com/users/postUgkxMwYg0MOXR4M-oGeyBsNSYe1aPOUoRH6D cage that I got the lat pulldown attachment that goes with it. It is equally outstanding. I don't have one complaint other than putting it together is a job. The instructions and packaging of the parts are very well designed and organized. Also, I stripped and damaged the pull down cable the first day, admitting it was my stupid fault, and they quickly replaced it at no charge. I'm 6'5, 280lbs and fit in the cage just fine. Glenn B

    Works great for me and is a speedy change when moving my racking pins up and down.
    Also I made my safety bars shorter. I drilled the safety bar and the racking pin holes about 1/4 inch behind the uprights on the rack. Also I was too lazy to paint mine. Yours looks sharp with the flat black paint!

    Hey Buff Dudes, as soon as I saw the Squat Rack in your " How to Build a HOME GYM" video last week I decided I had to do it. I spent all weekend on it and it came out great! One thing though that I did that I would recommend you guys also do is, I put a pull up bar on the front AND on the back, what I did then was take two pieces of pipe about 4 inches long that are slightly thicker than the pull up bars, then welded a steel pulley on each of the 4 inch pipes and slid them over my pull up bars. I then just threaded a steel cable through both pulleys, made a simple bar on the one end and a pipe on the other end to add weights. Works great for any cable exercise and the pulleys can just slide off when you want to do pull ups! Keep up the great work! Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa!

    I have had to shorten the dimensions as my York in door bench bar is only 90cm from weight to weight. So I have done the 4x4 either side with a 700mm gap. I am also using smaller corner supports (thinner). My joinery mate says it will be fine and secure. Currently drilled two posts. The Front I will also have a chin up/muscle up bar going accross and the 700mm 4x4 set alittle back maybe 1/3. I could also use this as the pulley system but not that far ahead yet. Just looking forward to benching and squats. Currently squating off my 140litre wheelie bins. So far so good. Considering this is my 2nd project, my first was the bench which I nailed, just need to purchase foam and vinyl to finish and give it the BUFF dude seal of approval. Michael, from Jersey.C.I. I'm building one now. One major mistake: could not find Douglas Fir in stock in my area and bought pine (supposedly "dried" pine). I thought I selected the best posts but did not see that they had a twist in them and while sitting in my basement, probably twisted a lot more, especially after I drilled all those holes for the safety bars. All my holes were lined up, but after I patched up all the dents and cracks in the wood and sanded everything down and finally went to assemble it, I discovered that the 4x4 were so twisted that there was no way for me to make an even structure. I assume this is due to pine being much softer than Douglas Fir. At this point, I put the project on hold and will be looking for Douglas Fir 4x4s and try again.

    It's been two years since I saw this clip and build my own Power Rack (wife helped) watching this clip over and over and it's still holding up today.
