Jeni Bear X3 thank you Jeni! I really wanted to emphasize that improving takes time. Especially when we see all these time lapse videos and art posted constantly, we start to think art is made in an instant. Hello Tori! I loved the vid, but the subtitles are horribly made by the CZcams automatic system. (one of your subtitles even went "Read spy os over aspax hicks a to set ing camp I benja hao my boo" and those were supposed to be English!). The subtitle system is very important for the fans of yours who may have trouble with hearing, and there are 360 million users globally who rely on subtitles to enjoy CZcams videos! I would love to volunteer to help you caption your videos if that is possible (for free btw). Hope this finds you well! Love your art!

Great video, Tori! As far as my favorite tip, I'm not sure, but something that struck me was when you said that it might take weeks to do all your color mixing swatches. Isn't that the truth!?! Whew!

      @VictoriaGedvillas  Před 4 lety +16

it always blows my mind how long it takes do swatch and prepare that for CZcams XD seems like a simple process yes? But long and tedious. Whenever I think about how much time goes into this and get antsy, I think back on college and remember that they dedicate a whole class on this. I have great memories of my instructor reviewing my swatches, saying wrong, do this section again :D

I can't afford too many paints, so now I use my paints and pay attention to what is holding me back in regards to pigment. I play with my paints and if I just can't do what I want, I know that I'm missing something. Currently, I'm studying what kind of blue I'm going to get because I'm always having a hard time with not having the right blue pigment that would react well with my other paints. So really using your paints to the max, it's really vital.

I like how you set up the color mixing pages with a large swatch of the base color on the side, and making lines with progressive amounts of the secondary color.

This is such an understated helpful tip! I’m trying gouache and watercolor right now, but I’m constantly getting frustrated whenever I try to mix colors (they all turn into muddy green-brown). I’m used to oil painting so I was fairly confident in my color mixing, but more transparent mediums aren’t as forgiving. I think I’ll try this exercise with my gouache to better my understanding of this medium first then dive into painting!

I did this recently because I saw it in your previous videos and managed to make my first own essentials palette with assorted watercolor paints that also fits my taste of colors and it made me really happy!
I went to art school and never learned how to mix paints properly, not to mention understanding pigment information, and always had troubles making decisions on what colors to use in my pieces because I simply didn't know how to benefit from all the colors available to me, what would look good, what was even possible. I'd end up with rainbow barf on most of my work.
I've learned so much from your videos alone and even tho I still have a lot more to improve on, I really love the process of mixing colors and creating color harmony now, it's become my favorite part when before it was more of a chore to me!

I don't think you would have seen my message on one of your videos of over a month ago... Oops haha. I just wanted to say I've recently started watching Juicy Ink videos and then started with your new channel as well. I absolutely love your paintings and aspire to be able to paint as well as you do. The way you understand colors and shapes is exceptional and I especially love the lighter, more cheerful themes in your paintings. Your enthusiasm and happiness is contagious!
I wish I could afford paint though😂 The only watercolors I've used for experience is the cheapest on the shelf. I come from South Africa and the Rand to Dollar was never good. The Rand to anything is not good😂 So I'm starting to save up money for a set that I can do almost anything with. Do you have any proposals? I also am unsure of quality books/paper to paint in and I don't know if I could reuse my older oil paintbrushes for painting watercolor?
Would really appreciate and love to hear from you! Being CZcams famous might make my comment invisible, but I'll always support your works on this channel. (These videos are my guilty pleasure between study breaks)

⭐️ This video is so well timed, I’ve set up a new split primary palette to help force me to practice mixing colours. I’m such a nerd for colour that it always boggles my mind that others don’t absolutely adore colour mixing, I do it to wind down lmao (I’m surprised to hear that you don’t enjoy it since your work is so colour focused!) 🙈
These are fantastic tips, one more I would add to that list is to create colour mixing charts; grids which showcase a gradual change between two paints (similar to multiplication charts), setting something like this up for yourself is a huge time saver for future projects, especially if colour is not your forte.
I hope you do more informative videos in the future, you convey knowledge in a clear and concise manner, I and I’m sure many others appreciate how it’s all in bite sized chunks so it’s not overwhelming.
I hope you’re having a lovely day and that you and your loved ones are safe!! ✨💛✨

    Hey Tori 👋
Girl you really called me out on this one 😄 at first I was like yeah I know my colors I know my mixing I do practice but actually applying the mixing in the painting? Nope... So , thank you! And thank you for always motivating me in such a calm but excited and positive way ❤️

Wow, days or weeks, huh. i didn't know it was that rigorous in art school. Coming from cheap student paint without pigment properties and suddenly getting a set of 34 artist grade paints was kinda confusing with some having similar hues. It only dawned on me this week all these pigment properties staining and granulation opacity have a subtle but very noticeable effect the way they lay ,blend and mix on paper. I really like your self imposed discipline and knowing exactly what this tube of paint does. It makes it more methodical like a chemistry student. I gonna do that. More focus on one paint at a time.

That's a really great point. When I am choosing a color I'm always thinking about how to arrive at that hue--whether I want it to be granulating or not and taking into consideration whether the paint has good flow or likes to stay put and so on. These are considerations that are unique to watercolor and part of what makes it so special.

By chance have you done a review on the Turner watercolor paints? I bought a box of the 5mi tubes. I really enjoy the Mayan hues. They work well with what I paint. I’m interested in your comments on this brand. Thank you. And, I did enjoy your presentation, it will move me to go back and do the swatches better. I have skipped doing them correctly.

I only have 12 colors, mixing is a thing I’m known for. I’m getting better and better, I only have 1 red and so getting different purples is hard.
