    Very informative video for fellow IMG doctors who want to practice in the UK. Since Medical Practitioners has been added to the Shortage Occupation List, IMGs are also eligible to apply for training jobs. Communication and confidence are key in PLAB 2. Keep up the incredible content The Junior Doctor

    I'm Frenchman from northern France. I feel no connection whatsoever to this place of its people. I still have two more years to go as a junior Doctor in GP, and then I'll be free to move away. I quite recently discovered Scotland, and realized that I absolutely love it there. So, when I'll be done with the last two training years, how shall I proceed with my Belgian Degreed ? Should I just send it to GMC, prepare for IELTS, and the apply for the visa ?

    Thank you! I was waiting for this video. I have two questions, I hope you can answer me:
    1) Is it recommended to do a pre-graduate experience in UK to increase your chance to get in Foundation Programme?
    2) Is it easy for a IMG to access in specialty?

    • @DrEzgiOzcan
      @DrEzgiOzcan  Před 6 lety +3

      Hi! Any prior experience doesn’t count towards a place in the foundation programme. It’s a point system with points given for academic performance and published papers etc
      I’m not so sure about IMG and access to specialities. It depends on your portfolio and audits and general interest into the speciality. You won’t be penalised for being a IMG

    I had finished my MBBS bachelor degree and my internship year in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, now as I understand:
    1- GMC
    2- IELTS
    3- PALP (part1 MCQ, part2 OSCE)
    4- Foundation Years (1,2)
    5- SOH
    6- Training Program
    Am I right?

    • @DrEzgiOzcan
      @DrEzgiOzcan  Před 4 lety +1

      Correct up to option 4. If you’ve done your internship year, you don’t need to do FY1 you can go into FY2 which is also another name for SHO.
      Once you’ve got enough experience in the NHS you can apply for a training programme

    • @DrEzgiOzcan
      @DrEzgiOzcan  Před 5 lety +1

      great to hear she wants to do medicine. If there are language issues she may be asked to sit the IELTS to prove her English language is adequate. Medical school ranges from 5 to 6 years. A UK entrant will apply for medicine through a website called the UCAS (deadline is early October) - theyre expected to write a personal statement and do entrance exams before being called for an interview . However I don't know how this process differs for international applicants - I'ts best to ask a few universities directly and they can tell you the best route.
      Regarding Hijabs - there are absolutely no isses with wearing a hijab in medical school, hospitals or anywhere else in the UK

      As far as I know, (have researched and asked GMC for my specialist friends, you do not need to take the plab test. Just ielts and apply for equivalence with all the documents they will need to see if you are equally qualified for uk specs of the same specialty. It takes 6-9 months just for the assessment. But as The Junior Doctor said, just start with opening a GMC account and start your GMC registration application. Good luck!

      SJT is used to place you in a foundation programme . So after you’ve gotten your provisional license to practice, you will need to complete an application through oriel, where your medical school decile score would be included I.e how you ranked in school, that score will now be added to your SJT score to place you in the foundation school . Also be aware that if you’d been out of medical school for more than two years you would need to do a clinical assessment as well

      Hi! Thanks for your question. If you fulfilled the criteria for the internship then you’ll be able to apply for a full gmc licence. If the gmc are not happy with the internship then they may ask you to do FY1 year to which you’ll start of with a provisional licence

    • @DrEzgiOzcan
      @DrEzgiOzcan  Před 4 lety

      When you enter a speciality it'll be at ST1 level unless you have extensive prior training elsewhere making you a registrar at which point there may be scope to enter at a higher level but less likely. Your ALS would need to be approved by the RESUS council, therefore I'm not sure that the qualification from India is recognised in the UK but you'd need to double check this

      Hi ☺️ the first step would be to get your GMC licence and apply for the ophthalmology training programme. You may want to work as a locus for the first years to adjust to the system and male contacts with people. Ophthalmology training posts are limited on the UK but I’m not 100% of the exact route. It’s best to ask on some of the forums I’ve linked in the video ☺️

      1. Do I need to finish my FY2 before applying for a postgraduate course (Eg- Internal Medicine) or can I directly apply for the same after my PLAB 2 results?
      2. Also, is it compulsory to work in the UK for a specific period before applying for a postgraduate course.
      3. Can I get into FY2 or work as an SHO or GP after PLAB 1 without PLAB 2?

    • @DrEzgiOzcan
      @DrEzgiOzcan  Před 5 lety

      1. Not always but you would be expected to work in the NHS for at least 1-2 years to understand how the NHS works.
      2. There isn’t a specific time but you are expected to have worked in the NHS before you get into a training programme.
      3. You’ll need both parts of PLAB to get a GMC licence. And you can’t work unless you’ve got a licence. You’d be able to work in a hospital but not a GP (you need to be a GP trainee or be a qualified GP to work in a GP practice)
