Thank you! Your videos are very helpful. I study abroad, I'm coming back to England and will start FY1 next August. These videos are very helpful for me to understand what's expected from an FY1.

Nice video! Currently on elective in Cape Town!!
Thank you!! Ah enjoyyyy. I hope youâve made great memories. Make the most of the freedom :)
My daughter was also on an elective in Cape Town last month, at Tygersberg.
Hi There.....
Thank you for the very informative videođ
Could you please do a idea on specialty trading and itâs related ease in different specialities
Thanks
HI. I have only applied to GP training and do not have much information about entering other speciality programmes. I am sure there are other youtube channels that may be able to give more info
My favourite channel on CZcams now. You've answered a lot of questions I had in mind. Can you please post that link you talked about please @ 11:30 when you ever you get a chance to do so. Thanks again and keep the videos coming. I've gone through a lot of your videos and benefitted a lot from them.
Aw thank you!!! Iâm glad it was useful. Iâve attached it to the video now, thanks for reminding me đ and thanks for your support
Hello, great video!. Just wanted to inform you that the link you posted for eligibilty has expired. Could you perhaps tell us how to find the same webpage ?

Thats a great video, great breakdown, thank you very much.......please as IMGs do you need to take the PLAB exams before applying for the foundation program?
Hi Rahima đ I believe if youâre outside the EU, you need to do the PLAB (you can double check this information on the GMC website), I will do a video on it soon as well âșïž
Thank you very much for responding,i would be looking forward to that video.....and please include this too in your upcoming video.....if IMGs have done one year of internship, can they apply for FY2 instesd of FY1....if yes please how can they go about it?...thank you
Hi...where are you from?
@@soumiabechka3429 am from Nigeria
Im graduating this year but i didnt expect that i need to know how to cathater and withdraw blood. Do you have a checklist of the things that i need to know before applying to fy1 .. im an IMG. Thank you
hey! just want to say how much these videos have helped.
Was also wondering how the medical system works in the UK? Like how to enter medical college? how many years it takes? which course is the best? Do you get paid for internship? Is F1 and F2 part of the education system or after your degree? I am really confused on how the UK system works and wondering if you could do a video on that.
Thank you.
Thank you đ
1. You get into medical school by applying through UCAS with your exam grades, your entrance exam, person statement and references.
2. Medical school is between 5-6 years. Depends on the university
3. You donât get paid for your internship however the NHS pays for your tuition fee for that year
4. F1 and F2 are after your degree
Hope that helps âșïž
@@DrEzgiOzcan thank you so much for clarifying .helped a lot =)
great video and very informative! thank you :)
Pleasure, thank you too!
1) In medical school do you have to learn all of the anatomy and the names of medicines by heart?
Hi Esha đ thanks for the question l. For exams yes you need to learn all of the anatomy they teach you, and itâs quite detailed. However as for medicines, you donât need to know them all by heart. You learn the groups of medicines, how they work and the side effects.
Hi. This was a really useful video thanks.
I was just wondering about whether you took the BMAT/UKCAT and how you worked towards it if you did.
Thanks Joy :) Yes I took both exams, I actually have a video all about it, check it out on my channel! When I did the UKCAT it only had four sections, and now it has an additional SJT section (just bear that in mind when you're watching it)
any tips on where(any book or website etc) and how to get the grasp of pharmacology as what a FY1 doctor should know??
No particular book - anything for the PSA exam will help
When did you start med school? Also, what did you do before med sch?
Hi Marcin I stared Med school in 2012 and studied biomedical sciences before as my first degree. I talk about it in my video âhow I got into ucl medical schoolâ
I'm getting my GCSEs this August. What are my chances of getting into Medicine if I get quite a number of Bs and some Cs? Or lots of Cs??
Hi Siam. Good luck!! Itâs still good. Iâd advice looking at the universities admission criteria. Some universities place emphasis on gcse grades and others do not. You just need to make sure you meet their criteria before you apply
Just watching this now and its so useful! (Ive subscribed too!) .... how competitive was it to get into a london deanary? what was your decile ranking and SJT score? Also if you're at the lower end to bottom of a deanery are you left with the shit jobs and terrible rotas? I will be an F1 in 18 months and I am little unsure of it all! Thank you
Thanks!
London deaneries are known to be competitive with high scores. But the competition rate changes every year but generally remains high.
I canât remember my individual scores but I think I got around 86-87 overall. I was in the third decile in Med school
Initially I thought being at the bottom of the deanery would mean Iâd get crap jobs but I got really good rotations. Remember something you donât find appealing can appeal to others so thereâs actually no such things as having a low score and getting a bad rotation. I got my 4th choice for example.
The Junior Doctor thanks for replying! 86/87 is amazing! I guess I need to see how my finals go first and then make a decision if I want to risk it. North west would be my other choice which is also competitive so think it may be risky to put it second!
Iâm only currently 8th decile (based on not a lot!) But it is shocking ... but I have a bsc and publication so if that doesnât change then Iâd have 40 points before SJT so Iâd need minimum 46 on that which is asking a lot!!
Sorry for the ramble. Love your videos!
North central deanery was competitive the year I did it as there were only 4 hospitals. But now theyâve merged the with east London deanery so the competition rate is lower.
Youâd be surprised how well you can do. There are people with lower deciles in top deaneries. All depends on the sjt unfortunately
Good luck!
I forget her speech looking at her beauty.
Hello I was just wondering just out of interest what are the symptoms and how do you treat osteo myelitis infection in the bone just in case you couldn't read the word Best wishes Nick
Iâm 13 and have Crohnâs disease. I have recently decided to be a gastroenterologist due to being told I had to have a button for liquid diets. Do you have any advice for me that would help such as apprenticeships, med school etc.
It would be very helpful!
Hi Emily. Sorry to hear about your Crohns, hope youâre feeling better. Itâs great that you want to become a gastroenterologist. Youâll need to apply for medicine in university. Have a look at my videos on âhow I got into UCL medical schoolâ for info regarding application. You still have a few years though but getting clued you now is a good idea
Is it always fair the number of weekends you work. Like only 1 a month... or could they put you on loads of weekends in a month? How many on calls do you do? Also you say you shift ends at 5 (I think), do you usually get out on time? Do you think itâs difficult having a relationship/ having kids as a doctor in general as youâre busy and work odd hours? I am considering going to medical school but I have heard it is a huge sacrifice so that worries me a lot
Hi Amy. Great questions. Iâve actually answered all these in my âassumptions about junior doctorsâ video so Iâd say check that out for more detail :)
But essentially your on calls are spaced out so theyâre not unreasonable. And in regards to having a relationship depends entirely on your partner and now supportive they are
What is this score that you mentioned for selecting a job at a deanery .. sorry I'm outside the UK :(
Hi Vini đ the london deanery I got into required a score of >85, but other deaneries have much lower marks which means youâll get into somewhere in the UK, no need to worry đ
Why the uk med graduates taking usmle's? Is it worth to shift to US after going thru gruelling usmle steps or is it better to stay in uk and do gp training?
Salary is more in USA.
@@RobertChase865 salary isnt everything , work-life balance also mean something
@@jeetdhillon3721 So, its better in USA than UK?
@@RobertChase865 us residents work 80 hr/week compared to 48 hrs in uk
As you told that 2000 pounds you can earn after completing your graduation ,in india also its same like 1 lakh inr you can earn in one month but in india they donât pay hourly ,working in india have a limitation i.e pollution its high in india so it might cause respiratory disease
I've always wanted to know how much annual leave do FY1 & FY2's get and can you take it all in one go (e.g. for summer holidays through July & August)? Also, do you get any days off during the week (e.g. weekends)?
Hey. So annual leave. We get 9 days annual leave per 4 month. You can take it all together if you like but most often the someone has taken annual leave so you can take more than 10 days off (including weekends)
I work 1 weekend a month. But when Iâm on A&e Iâll be working every other weekend
Thank you for the replay. So does that mean that you essentially don't get a summer holiday. Because i read on the BMA website that you get 28 days annual leave and I wanted to take all of the 28 days for a summer holiday. Im thinking thats not possible?
You only have 9 days per 4 months rotation. So you canât take all the days in one go
Can you take 18 days by using the last 9 days of 1st four months and 1st 9days of next 4 months
Theoretically you could but in reality that would not happen. Itâs difficult to coordinate leave anyway and to organise it that way would be hard. Plus you wouldnât want to miss the first week of your new rotation.
Is there any way to get directly into GP training after completing mbbs?
No, itâs compulsory to have finished foundation years/equivalent before being allowed on the GP training programme
Do you get to choose which hospital or which city you do your fy1 and fy2 at?
You get given a list of hospital and jobs that you can rank. Your combined score with the SJT is then used to allocate you
I've wanted to do medicine for the last 3 years but have started getting a bit scared/doubtful over reading that often junior doctors are made to move huge distances across the country every year or few months. Has this improved at all after the new regulations to help junior doctors through the last couple of years? If not would you recommend putting up with this for a few years if you want to maintain close relationships with people or an S.O? Thanks for any reply, I would be really grateful for your advice. :)
Hi Sarah. Moving distances is not true. You apply for a training programme which is a minimum of 2 years meaning you are in the same city for those years. Often doctors apply to a particular area and get their choice, so moving often isnât an issue - unless itâs something you personally want to do
Thank you! That's very comforting đ. Better go do maths homework now đ.
đ no worries x
@@DrEzgiOzcan I have to disagree. Generally it is very difficult to settle somewhere for a long time in medicine. Especially when you start speciality training and there are not many jobs available in that specialty you could be moving around every couple of years. Some are more lucky than others. GP you can generally stay where you want
@@Pixydust143 Hi Nat, I do agree with what you are saying. There is a lot of moving involved but its not on a yearly basis, whilst in training you can be sure to be in a region of the country for at least 2-3 years.
also any pros and cons on whether to do MRCP or MRCGP???
It depends if you want to do hospital medicine or general practice
yeah thats right, but any ideas about job opprtinities , pay scale , workhours etc if one goes into internal medicine or GP practice?
www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/explore-roles/doctors/pay-doctors
This website will give you an idea on salaries.
Work hours wise - GPs work office hours, however in hospital youâd need to do night shifts and weekends.
There is a greater job opportunity for GPs as thereâs a national shortage and lots of slots.
It really depends on what kind of medicine you want to practice
Hi,Are u willing to take GP ?
Can I message u anywhere ... ??? I need help regarding plab
It would be great if you let us know, how to study for mrcp/post graduation degree, when you're doing so hectic duty. Do junior doctors get enough time to study actually? secondly, is it easy to live by 2000 pound in UK? Finally, how to get a training post? Thanks in advance!
Itâs all about time management. When youâve done weekends it night shifts you have zero days during the week and theyâre perfect times to study for exams. You can also book some study leave too which helps prepare
Yes ÂŁ2000 is a decent amount. You may not be able to save a huge deal but itâll be enough for rent, bills and a social life
@@DrEzgiOzcan may i ask, when you said you get 2000 a month, is that because you are doing like way less than 40 hours a week? like someone told me doctors get ÂŁ100 an hour
@@sbegum2010 They were exaggerating. Brief locums at a senior level in high-demand specialties may command hourly rates like that.
Hey quick question..what was your EPM score? I am also a grad and want to stay in London. Also what was your overall score?
I believe my EPM was 45 (3rd decile at medical school and 1st class in my BSc)
May i know at which level of doctor you are now maam! Thankyou!đ
Iâm currently in the first year of my GP training
I am really struggling with OSCES, any tips? Also, what did you do after placements during third year?
Biggest tip is choosing a good partner finding good resources and going through them together. You have to be consistent.
What do you mean after placements?
@@DrEzgiOzcan Thanks. As in during the evenings after placements. Did you do any work/revision? What resources would you recommend for OSCEs? Thanks again!
I would read over the things we covered that day. But also takes some evenings off to rejuvenate.
I used an osce book I got from amazon. It had a multi coloured front cover, canât quite remember the name
@@DrEzgiOzcan please do more day in the life vids. You are fantastic!!!

How can I become a specialist after five years of foundation course ?
Foundation course is 2 years. You apply for speciality training after youâve completed those years
wow machine for scrubs? fancy - what happened to the honour system!
Whatâs the honour system?
@@DrEzgiOzcan that each person will take a set of scrubs from the shelf and put it in the scrub bin after each use - ready for it to be cleaned for the next day
Unfortunately lots of scrubs were going missing - which is why they brought in this system
Which is bettet speciality training Or doing GP PLZ suggest
I wouldnât be able to answer that question. It really depends on your preference and what speciality you like
By junior Doctor do you mean youâre in your residency....
subscriber from India
A junior doctor is any doctor before they become a consultant or fully qualified GP
Hey you mentioned that you will be sitting the mrgp exam as an f2. Did you mean to say that? Its just I thought that that was an exam which you did during your gp training. Didn't think you could do it as a foundation doctor. Thanks :)
Hi Ed. Yes so to be eligible to apply for gp training you have to sit the first part of the MRCGP. It consists of a computer based mcq, sjt and a short osce. You then rank your deanery like you would with foundation training and get a place according to your overall score
The Junior Doctor thanks for clarifying :) I am doing fy1 now (also a graduate) and using your videos as a guide and support so thank you muchly :) Thinking of gp myself! Anyways I hope you're enjoying f2. Bw
No worries đ welcome to my channel!! Howâs the first weeks of FY1 going?
Lol when I first read this I was in the middle of my first on call shift. 13 hours and only had a 10 minute break! So at that point I felt like things were not going great but having survived and now being sat in my PJs with my dinner ready to get devoured I feel much better knowing that I survived :) Otherwise it has been ok so far. Hard work but ok :) I just hope things get easier as time goes by. How is F2 treating you?
Ive had loads of them days, gone a whole shift without peeing or eating lunch whilst looking up bloods etc. It gets so much better as you get confident! and days you work hard are so much more rewarding, well done on getting through your first on call shift :) F2 is going well so far, sometimes being the most junior in the team means I still feel like the F1, but the added responsibility gives me that push :D
If I have a baby during my gp training what would happen
What are you asking exactly when you say âwhat will happenâ?

Any scope for indian doctors??

Hi can u plz tell me if its possible to enter into FY for opthalmology , if you are doing job already into another speciality ?
Hi :) FY is foundation training not speciality training, if you are a trainee within a speciality you can change into another. Does that answer your question or have I understood it incorrectly?

50k is roughly the starting salary for a new trainee. The salary goes up every year as you become senior
@@DrEzgiOzcan Okay doctor...Thank you...
Just wanted to ask can a doctor do some extrajob alongside the hospital training??? N the only thing which makes me reluctant in doing plab is the earnings they r so small :(( any tips??
If working full time you are allowed to do additional locum work alongside your usual work rota (given you are not going over the recommended number of hours per week) - regarding earnings, itâs really a personal decision that youâll have to weigh up for yourself
Its so nice of u mam that u replied even on a year old video. Can a fy2 be a locum in uk?? I wont mind if u dont reply on this as u have replied me already n i can understand the no of comments thanku so much so kind of u

Thank you very much....
So that means when i get my acceptance into the GMC can i also apply for foindation years just to get familiar with the system or is there a shorter programme for that

U said you are pain 2000ÂŁ but the website says 2700ÂŁ for fy1 from 2019 is it changed ? I donât know what to believe đ
ÂŁ27,000 is the basic salary. It gets supplemented depending on the number of on calls that you are assigned, therefore after tax your monthly take home salary is ÂŁ2000

You do get weekends off. Depending on which rotation you do youâll either be working 1 in 4 or 2 in 4 weekends
Why doctor's say they don't have a social life? Can you explain shortly please? They do have free time right?
I donât think they say they have no social life. Socialising first then is harder due to on calls, weekend shifts and night shifts.
And when we do have free time itâs usually on a weekday where other people are working.
Why doctor's are leaving NHS? After 7-9 years will uk need as many doctors as they need now? What's your opinion? Can u share please...I am a first year medical student in Bangladesh and want to settle my career in UK .is it a good decision?
@@rafiulislamsiam2904 a good documentary to watch if you want an insight to the working conditions of the NHS is 'confessions of a junior doctor'. It's on CZcams. Consultants being respectful, especially to nurses or health care staff. Respectful you say, are you sure?? There is one famous case of a consultant shouting at the prime minister David Cameron to get out of his ward. The consultant had a point, but it is the rude way he delivered it to the prime minister. Most consultants are ok, but there are a huge amount that are not approachable. I am putting it in a polite way.

Uk fy1 dr . Complaining abt low pay..... meanwhile Indian jr. dr in India - u guys r getting paid?đł
I can easily make ÂŁ2k per month as a health care! Crazy
True. But there is little progression for HCA, but with medics their salary will go up substantially every year
The Junior Doctor oh yeah totally! But itâs still crazy that you can almost walk off the street to a hospital/nursing home as a HCA and with over time or extra shifts end up with the same salary as a doctor! I work as Hca, just finished my nurse training so itâs crazy to think who gets what in contract to workload! đł
Marta_Eventing yeah very true. but doctors in their early stages of the career get payed almost the same as nurses... its only until they choose their speciality that they increase in pay. The average pay for doctors is probably between 37-50k. it takes years to get to consultant level where real money lies and most dont reach that level at all hence why they stay within the pay i mentioned throughout their careers.
U r cute
