Hormel Chili used to be the best canned chili you could buy until they changed the recipe. It is obviously different now.
Still mine.
@@terriclark4255 mine too
Same with a lot of other food. Now wolf brand is the best.
Skyline chili 🌶️ is the best canned chili
When I was on a budget attending college, I'd get two dinners out of one can of Chili with beans by adding a can of kidney or pinto beans to stretch it into two big bowls for two night's dinners. Add a couple slices of garlic bread and a salad and you're good to go. Too bad he didn't add Denison's Chili with beans to his list, because it's really good, IMO.
I like putting mine over a baked potato so you get a couple meals out of it too :)
🙏✊💪
Hey, What Does IMO Mean?
@@jonikaredwine4861 there's also the IMHO variation which means in my humble opinion
Staggs chili is worth a try, Costco has it. Lots of beef, ground beef and chunks.
It goes to show that making homemade chill is the best route to go.
Craig ! First to make some sense .
I totally agree with you there! Better to go with lean fresh mince and pinto beans. Really not a fan of frozen mince, I just don't like the texture. I also prefer pinto beans over kidney beans.
Well you know some people don’t got the time to make it like you do some of us are busy working smh
For sure
Always
When you mixed it all I knew you were one of us. You truly are doing it for US THE PEOPLE
You need to try Stagg brand Chile. Loaded with meat, bell peppers, onions, and the beans are cooked to perfection.
Where do you find the brand Stagg??
Costco is a seller of Staff Chili
I think I've seen it at Walmart and Safeway as well
It is a Brand Restaurants and Deli's use when they serve chili but don't make it in house
Chili place I worked at was leaked as best they ever tasted but it was Staff Chili bought from Costco used for our. Chili and rice and Chili Dogs
Stagg google, Stagg
@@lindawinegar1311 I find, living behind the granola curtain in Kaliforniastan, Stagg's at most of the major retailers. For example, I see it at ralphs, which might be Kroger where you live. I am pretty sure I've seen it at Stater Bros also. I will add price seemed to be an indicator at least in this comparison, as to which one tastes better. I think Stagg will be in line with Wolf. So it's been 5 months since you asked where you could find it. Did you ever find it and more importantly, did you try it? What'd you think?
I loved the way Stagg Chili tasted when it came in the little boxes, but it almost always gave me terrible intestinal distress afterwards. It could have just been a personal problem. Wolf Brand Family Style has been my go-to canned chili for 17 years now.
Wolf Brand Chili with beans is my go-to canned chili. Hormel is the country's "#1 Chili" primarily because of the LONG recognition of the Hormel name and a much more extensive production and distribution network over time. It didn't hurt that they were originally a pork producer out of Chicago and sold 65% of their products, including Spam, to the US Government during WW II. Wolf Brand has pretty much always been JUST a chili producer.
Especially for Frito Pie!
Surprised he didn't add Stagg chili to the mix. The Wolf Brand has some good chili but I feel like Stagg makes the most "home style" tasting & looking chili. But I guess that is subjective because Cincinnati style chili is always more watery
Frito Pie with Wolf Brand - just like Hank Hill!
sounds like commisary at the county jail
I tell you Whahht.
Yesss! A West Texas institution!
@@scottlounsbury5888 I guess you should know.
Sonic used to sell a frito chili pie.
Beans. Competition chili doesn't have beans. Chili that people actually eat has beans.
My dad was from Texas and didn't like beans in his chili, so my mom added refried beans to extend it. He never knew.
Dave Dorris beans are my favourite part of chili! Your mom is a genius.
This is why we can't trust women.
That’s really smart I never thought of that...I don’t personally care for beans and get chili without beans but I can handle refried I’ll have to add that to my next batch!
Warm up the beans first and they stir in nice and creamy.
Dave Dorris Thank you! I’m excited 😆
Only time I eat canned chilli (no beans) is for hotdogs. Hormel is solid and wolf brand I just like because of king of the hill lmao.
Ha ha, you are not joking. I don't think we get Wolfe brand chili around here, but when I saw it on the thumbnail, I was like "That's what Hank buys!"
Cant make Frito pie without it I tell yuh what
Wolf brand is just nasty.
Same here. Chilidogs are good for something quick
@@AleTitan exactly, throw em in a pan with some butter and throw the chili in a pot with some peppers and you're solid.
About 20 years ago, Hormel Chili changed their recipe. The "new" recipe is no where near as good as the original.
Shewwwt I'm a millenial and I like Hormel Chili. I now have to wonder if I have missed a Golden Age
yes and have you noticed when you re heat it it turns watery verry strange
This is true. It was da bomb and they still brag off their previous success.
I have noticed that.
It's still better than the rest.
I was born and raised on Hormel (when mom didn’t make her awesome ‘from scratch’ chili). Then I was teaming (OTR truck driving) when my co-driver recommended Wolf’s chili.
I’ve been a Wolf’s fan since.
Wolf brand is my favorite.
I will have to try Wolf brand, Going shopping on Saturday.
WITHOUT beans.
WOLF brand chili tastes like chili you put on hot dogs
Yup, the only one I get anymore
Agreed - tastes great with or without beans!!
I usually add a can of no-bean chili to Mac and cheese.
Yummy!
Ann Drogynous also on rice or fried potatoes roCk😁
I'll try that.
We called it chili Mac and was a childhood regular
Potatoes and and chilli
I'd eat that rn 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Wolf was the best choice because it was their "homestyle" option with tomatoes, bell peppers and onion. I would suggest adding a can of fire roasted diced tomatoes to any can of store bought chili when cooking. I think you'll be pleased with the result.
Or fresh chopped tomatoes it kills a little bit of the can flavor
If you don’t like it why did you buy it in the first place?
@@larrymurphy3877 Because we're men and we're lazy!
I didn't know that wolf even made chili with beans. I think every can I've ever bought at heb was sans beans. I actually would buy a can of red kidney beans and diced some onions into it because it's a bit heavy them. I never liked Bell peppers in chili but onions definitely and shredded cheddar.
@@CtrlAltRetreat The original Wolf Chili sold to cowboys on the Chisholm Trail from a wagon did NOT have beans.
"Wolf" Home style is the only one I buy. It's amazing.
dad always made chili with deer meat! it was delicious! and he used beans! but when I smell chili it always takes me back to my childhood on cold winter days!
James Jackson love deer meat!
James Jackson venison chili is the best
We mixed the deer meat with ground beef. It was quite good!
What does deer meat taste like? Sounds like it was really nice.
code470926 It has a great taste, but it is very lean. That's why I always mixed it with ground beef for chili. The back strap is the best.
Wolf Brand chili without beans makes a great chili topping for chili dogs. A little brown mustard on the bun, hot dog, chili, diced onions and cheddar cheese. Yum!
That is what we use it for - hot dog topping with chopped onions.
Wolf is the only canned chili I buy and eat. Been buying it for years.

Hormel is the No 1 Selling chili , not the best tasting however throw in your favorites , cheese some cajon season and corn chips and lunch is served.
Stagg chili ... ? ... certainly sounds delicious.
I agree. To me opening any other brand smells just like a can of dog food. Stagg actually smells like human food before you cook it. Dynamite Hot is the one for me... and I add Tobasco Habenero to get more Habenero flavor in the chili.

Yeah; it's nice to see the better half, shopping at Family Dollar, Walmart, Dollar stores, LOL!
Where’s the Denison chili that’s my favorite. Not a fan on normal.
May i also add; that i'm in Hillary's "basket of deplorables". Effin' corrupt demoncrats!!!
I always go for the Dennison's- one of the few I can find with no added sugar. Chili ain't supposed to have sugar!!
Yep! Dennison's for canned - no sugar, no frills, no BS, just REAL Chili! For Chili mix I always go with Carroll Shelby's Texas Brand Mix - BEST thing next to a scratch recipe.
@Jim Burnett yeah you put a little bit and it reduces any bitterness or sour, but the big food companies put in 15 grams of the sh1t in a can of chili, that's because they know we the consumer is addicted to sugar, and since like 1930 they've been adding more and more sugar to more and more things, when they see one product selling more than another simply because it has more sugar included, you pretty much have your business model right there and look what has happened...imagine that, sugar is in EV E R Y T H I N G. I'm addicted to it, you are too though, we all are 98% of us. Oh the healthcare industry has one hell of an insurance policy when all the food companies are pumping out sugar and trans fats that metabolize into sugars when ingested.
Obesity lol
Diabetes lol
Chili can have whatever people like including a little brown sugar.
What are you the chili aficionado?
@@cletusspucklerstablejeaniu1059 probably more than half the states in usa have state sponsored chili competitions in some way or another, its a pretty big deal just like anything can be, i mean at one time people bought pet rocks. they give trophy cash rewards notariety and theres people taste testing it, do exist chili aficionado.
My favorite is Hormels' Angus beef chili. I like it the way Gomer Pyle had his, with chopped onions on top. 😀
Hormel is chunks of meat and color water. Wolf Brand is the best can chili. Austex was my favorite years ago but it must have disappeared.
Had recall. Went bankrupt apparently
I knew Hank Hill was onto something when he recommended Wolf Brand Chili. I bought it once for my chili dogs for that reason and noted it had the highest fat content. The flavor was good but I could beat it on texture with chili con carne chubs. I add cumin, chili powder, garlic and onion powder to them all anyway, so flavor for chili dogs is not an issue. Fat=Flavor.
Wolf Brand specifically uses a blend of beef and pork to get that fat content, because they allege that the old school Chili Queens used lard as the cooking fat in their comals to brown the beef before they put it in the pot with the chilis, cumin, etc.
@@bradleyheck7204 Good info, thanks for sharing.
I just found Wolf Chili on the big island right here in Kona. At Walmart! I bought a can, and I am going to try it tonight to see how it compares to my favorite, Cattle Drive (Costco). Cross your fingers.
@@AuntyLaniLee I hope it lived up to the hype. At least you're eating it in Hawaii. Shoe leather would taste good in Hawaii. Cheers!
Higher fat means it tastes a hell of a lot better! It’s a shame that so many food companies have been shying away from high fat foods, mostly because of our obesity epidemic here in the US. This is supposed to be the land of the free, let people give themselves diabetes and heart disease if they want to!
Campbel's chunky chili with beans is my favorite canned type chili, but I prefer to make it from scratch when I can.
I am a native Texan. My go to canned chili is Wolf Brand. Used to be made in Ft. Worth,Tx. and their plant was next to the old stockyards. We always bought the all beef no bean style.
I love watching your videos, you are such a delight and a gift to mankind. I love your sense of humor and honesty! : )
For those who like chili but don't like biting into beans, I use 1 can of refried beans. It helps to thicken up the chili while appeasing the "no bean biters club."
That sounds tasty. When you heat them up, do you throw them in together or cook them separately?

Add some fresh onion and bell pepper to the Wolf brand chili. That sets it off.

Wolf hands down. With or without beans. Great on hotdogs.
I am 59 and a born and raised in Texas Texan. I was raised on Wolf brand chili and it used to taste great, until they sold out to Con-Agra Foods. It used to have a sweetness to it that is now gone. I have just recently discovered that the taste is different between the 15oz can and the 19oz can with the chili from the 19oz can tasting much more like it used to. I buy no beans chili I want all the chili in that can as they can put in to it. I'll add a can of pork and beans, which is delicious and makes more meals.
Wolf chilli is the best I've tried out of a can.
It has a bit more flavor to me. But a pork flavor not beef.
Wolf brand has the most spice to me as well.

I suffer from chronic depression; some days it's not so bad, i have some energy and can make my own food, which i think I'm pretty good at. Some days, though, i can barely drag myself out of bed, and easy canned meals like this are a fucking godsend on those days
I love canned chili but damn, there’s a lot of salt and calories in one can.
I like Hormel chili with beans. Half a can on each chili dog is th' bomb. Love that stuff! 👍
Hormel is gross
I'll eat it in a frito pie and it is awesome. Chili cheese fritos, Hormel with beans, and a big sss mountain of cheese and it is paradise. Even though my blood pressure will shoot through the roof😂
Nothing is more gross. Than the dinty.. moores..beef stew.. ewwww..dont kniw??? What are those big chunks of meat ..realky are in there..
Thank you. I stock up on canned good just in case we have a power failure during winter.
When I make my homemade chili, of course all the veggies are fresh, but I also use fresh Roma tomatoes, that I roast in a low oven for a couple hours. This makes them sweeter, and concentrates the flavor.
I've had Hormel it's actually not bad! I put onions and peppers into it and Tabasco too!!
James Jackson Just like any other chili. I needs those extra ingredients.
"It was very thick and didn't want to come out. I bet that's not the case after we eat it" - Hilarious!
I got a couple of cans of the Wolf chili to try and it was great. I normally always make homemade but wanted something easy to have around. It was great. I served over a baked potato and topped with chopped onions and cheese.
During my teen years in the mid-1970's frequently I would buy a can of Hormel Chili with Beans, dump it into a pot (microwaves didn't exist in my house then) add water to the can, swish it around to clean the can out, heat the chili up and eat it with about 4 - 5 slices of bread. I'm a bread guy so I loved dunking the bread into the soup of the chili. As a young adult in my 20's I would buy the Stagg brand chili. But I since haven't bought a can of chili in probably 30+ years; I enjoy making it for my family and co-workers.

Chef Boyardee had a really good chili. Don't know why they stopped. My mom bought it back in the 1960`s. I never had a homemade chili til I was in school. I ate their chili everytime they made it. Yes they did make it!
I once won a First Place trophy (and $50.00) on a Chilly Bowl. I used the best ingredients. Spared no expense, but what I think people liked best was the seasonings. Great video. I do buy a can of chilly every once in a while.

I have tried various canned chili `s and my favorite is Walmart`s Great Value w/ beans. Only $1.24 and is everything I expect in a can of chili! I also make homemade chili, too.

Buy canned chili without beans, then when cooking drain a can of cooked beans and combine = much larger serving of meat and cheaper overall cost for more servings.
Exactly how I do it. Throw it on some rice or mashed potatoes. You can get even more.
That's too much work.

I've used Hormel without beans in the past, but only as a base for my chili. I'd add in seasonings, salsa, veggies and beans of my own. It's good if you want a shortcut to making your chili. These days I'm going more along your route of chili making. :)
I like the Steak and Shake ones in the little plastic containers the best. It has a lot more spice (without being spicy) and flavor. Wolf is probably 2nd best. My least favorite is definitely the Armour brand one.... its like pure salt.

I've never watched one video from this channel but I was having a sh*t day today, clicked on this video and just 30 seconds in, you got me laughing. Good on ya buddy, I needed a laugh lol.
I make my own chili, in 8 qt batches. This lets me freeze about 3 qts at a time. A good idea is to freeze small amounts that have very little liquid, for topping hotdogs.
My favorite chili is Bowl of Red seasoning and 80/20 ground beef. The recipe also calls for suet which I don't use. I brown the meat, mix in the seasoning and sever it over spaghetti with a couple of slices of cheese. However, on a chili dog, I prefer Hormel's chili no beans. I also like the soup-type chili where I mix in noodles.
Wolfe brand chilly hands down my favorite or home made or crockpot!
I'm 45 and I've never eaten chilli out of a can but now I want to try the wolf brand. Reading the comments it looks like most folks recommend it.
I must say I love Wendy's chilli and if I can ever get my chilli the way I want it I'm gonna try to can my own.
I like Campbell's Chunky spicy chili. It's more of a soup than a spread and has just the right amount of kick to it.
I usually take Camble's' Roadhouse No-bean chili because it has a good amount of vegetables in it, but it's kind of watery so I'll mix it with Hormel No-bean chili.
I’m from Canada. We pretty much just have Stagg and Campbell’s. Thanks for what you are doing Sir
You chose the Wolf brand as the best brand? No shit, Larry. 😁
Jai Courvoisier I would concour
No shit, Shelock.
Wolf brand is garbage too. Just use Skyline
That one is my favorite too. I always have a couple of cans in my pantry. The Wolf Homestyle is better than the Wolf Authentic, with beans...just sayin'
That first bowl of chili looks like it has big turds in it.
Mixing the chili was genius. I tip my hat to you sir.
i enjoy your sense of humor.
Let me just say that before I even watch this episode, I know its going to be my favorite.
I know homemade is the better choice, but Hormel (no beans) is my 'go to' for chili cheese dogs. I slather it on thick with cheese and onions on top of a Kogel Vienna and enjoy the ride :D
The family dollar brand is great for putting over spaghetti noodles. It may not be "cincinnati style" chili but it definitely works over noodles the same way.
Sup Larry, growing up i thought chili lived in a can, once had bowl homemade i realized chili died in a can lol. Ive been making texas style chili no beans about 20 years, when cookout have to separate it and add beans to dome to please all. Tyvm tc
I never coook it in the microwave i put it in on the stove
I agree that's how I heat it up too, and I also add a half a can of water so that I can use that water in the can to stir it up and get more goodie out of the can that's left behind, and then I add a dash of Cajun seasoning salt, a pinch of cumin, and a little cayenne pepper. I get it going pretty good and then I turn it down really low and let it simmer for 30 minutes. 😎👍
I started stockpiling Hormel chili about a year ago as I realized it tasted pretty good and had lots of protein and fiber. I add green pepper, onion, and zuchnii to it for a more well balanced meal. Tip: its frequently on sale buy one get one free so it doesnt cost much to build up a stock pile same with soup which I also add fresh veggies too when possilble.
Wolf so much better. Not watery. When as a kid working the concession stand. When somebody bought a Frito pie. The next question was do you use wolf brand.
i stockpile as well ... can of chili and some crackers is easy to make and cheap ...
Appreciate the fact that your body had to go through this or was it the other way around....you get the point!
When I make homemade Chili, instead of using canned Tomato sauce, I use the equivalent amount of Mild jarred Salsa. That makes a huge difference in the flavor and texture.
