There are probably hundreds if not thousands of people that downloaded the yuzu source code as soon as this lawsuit was announced. It will continue to be developed or at least hosted in its current state in countries where Nintendo cannot reach.

Nintendo is stupid, crying over how emulation does things better than Nintendo. Yuzu shouldn't have caved and settled, they should've fought like they announced. Nintendo should be taught fan-made games should be honored who inspired them. But taking yuzu to court not after the Switch been around for years.
Nintendo's stupid sometimes and should lay off.

@@neskid26 Nintendo ain’t stupid in this situation. Yuzu literally was selling stuff behind Patreon. Also an extreme large majority of Yuzu users does not know how to dump there own ROM, so because they don’t know how to do it, they download it instead. In this case that is stealing aka Piracy.

@thesuperjag I was aware what yuzu was doing, thank you very much, didn't need to explain and dumb down my intelligence, I said Nintendo was stupid bc they take down fan-made games, please ask before on what I meant by 'Stupid'.
If I was the head of a big video game company, and if I found out someone was developing a fan-made game upon one of our games, I'd be honored.
Why did you feel the need to dumb down my intelligence? A better way would be 'Did you know what Yuzu was doing?... But why like a comment and turn around and attack me? To me 'Like' is AGREEING with that person, do you understand?

@@thesuperjag Stealing and software piracy are not the same thing. Stealing is me taking your car and you don't have a car anymore. Software piracy is me taking your car and you still have your car. Also what about the people who played for a physical switch game and then pirates that same switch game?

Here's my hot take. This is gonna stop NOTHING. I'm sure someone RIGHT NOW has downloaded Yuzu's (pronounced You Zoo) source code to archive it... I wouldn't be surprised if a code fork (slightly different version of aforementioned source code) comes out sooner rather than later. It's open source. Nintendo needs to get younger more hip people working for their company... AFAIK all the employees of all levels are aged 60+ and they're outta touch with what consumers and gamers want. Sure we have greats like Shigeru Miyamoto (inspiration for my namesake here and elsewhere online) working there, and I respect him a great deal, but Nintendo needs a reform from the inside out. Another thing is Yuzu is not to blame for ToTK's early "release" aka leak. Someone with an advance copy and a hacked/modified Switch dumped a copy of the game, and released it online for the world (at least those with modded Switch consoles) to enjoy early. Another emulator of which I shall not mention to not ...jynx... things actually was the one that people were/probably still are using to play games like ToTK and others from the Switch game library. One last thing I want to mention is that Yuzu has a setup guide to get you going to play games/homebrew, and it needs certain files to make it all work, but NOT ONCE did they host any of the decryption keys anywhere as part of the guides. To my knowledge the prod.keys file is unique to each Switch system, and you need to provide a copy of the file yourself from your own system. Nintendo likes to jump the gun too quickly, and it's going to be their demise at some point.
    BUUUUUT I digress.

the thing that companies and people don't understand is that, we wouldn't buy the game, one common misconception is that without piracy people would be buying their games when in reality they would not, most people use piracy for games they would not have bought.

Should it be such a shocker that they go after an emulator that had a publicly funded patreon that equaled $28,000 every single month?
There's no way in hell they used all that money to pay people to maintain the emulator without pocketing a little bit of it for themselves.

    • @cob1million
      @cob1million Před 5 měsíci

A lot of the work on Yuzu was done by open-source contributors that never saw a cent from the Patreon. It's safe to say that most of the Patreon money was going to the project owners, not the maintainers.

Richest company or richest gaming company, big difference. But even so Nintendo are being petty because they don’t lose money from the majority of people who purchase their games since majority of people don’t know anything about emulation or care about emulation. It’s basically society going after the homeless saying they are causing tax evasion problems for the government.

so a few years from now.. switch games wont be supported.. and game preservation is low.. digital is now the new normal soon.. how is this legal for nintendo to get rid of memories.. games they worked on and truly loved..? this is why emulators exist.. to give people reason to save memories of games and to keep the retro gaming scene alive

Lets be honest here. Majority of the people using the emulator aren't using it to "preserve" their own games. Nothing is gonna stop people from going to rom hosting sites and just downloading the rom. Using the excuse "To preserve games" is just another way to justify privacy 🤣🤣🤣

I think the other emulators that's not Nintendo related are going to be fine. I think the MAIN problem is that, they where emulating a console that's still alive like The Nintendo Switch.

  • @robert_roland63

Actually Yuzu isn’t the only Switch emulator out there. Basically Yuzu couldn’t play TotK when it leaked early, but there was another one at the time that could run it.
Also even though their website is still up, but I have found out any download link on their pages are giving an error so after this settlement those downloads were immediately deleted.
I personally don’t feel the need to emulate current gen stuff because you have to have a pretty decent computer to today’s standards so I’m not really into emulating any Switch games since my wife and I have a Switch for each of us so I have no need to emulate something I can play on the console.

Sorry to say it but getting an emulator for current hardware is piracy and stealing (it is on any hardware but it really is for a console that is still being supported.) and I’m kinda glad Nintendo took them down because it’s in fact stealing. People might not think it is but you’re wrong. Now if it’s an old console that Nintendo isn’t supporting anymore. I don’t really care as much but still ya’ll need to stop playing pirated games and play the real game system.
