Merlin have now reworked their bestselling jacket and tweaked and improved a few things, without straying too far from the original’s timeless looks. I have the edale 1, it's the best jacket I've ever owned. I'm using mine as a winter / non summer jacket in Australia and I love it, the amount of pockets seem silly, but are so usable, when I'm going to back to my other jacket I'm looking for pockets, wipes for helmet, phone, wallet, ear plus, medicines, etc. Pockets are handy and it's so comfy! So I would hope the 2 is even better!

Thanks for the detailed reviews! 6:20 Gotta go with the Perton over the Edale...it looks more moto jacket and less Barbour jacket.

I wanted a Merlín wax jacket until I tried one on earlier this year. It was so heavy!

I notice the double storm flap from the first Edale has gone, replaced by a single flap.
Will this make a difference in terms of water ingress through the zip?

Can you separate the waterproof and insulated liners, or do they come out of the main jacket as one?

Hi! The Waterproof, breathable Humax membrane is something that is integrated into the jacket itself. However, it has a Full body removable Outlast temperature regulating liner. Hope this helps! - Iza

Can the armour be upgraded or will it hold only level one pieces?

Looks like the zips aren't waterproof, £400 for only AA protection?

I have the Tewkesbury jacket with the same zip arrangement. I've ridden in hours of heavy rain and the flap keeps the zip completely dry. I wouldn't get hung up on the AA rating. There are reliable stories of people having severe accidents in Merlin jackets which have survived with no damage.

Having bounced off a car, somersaulted over the bars and skipped of the pavement like a stone in my Merlin Edale 1 I can say both it, and I survived a lot better than the Livewire Del Mar I was test riding at the time.

Pleased to hear you survived your spill, £400 is still expensive for a AA rated jacket, you can get triple A rated for the same price, just saying.@@AlexOnABoat

If you think £400 is expensive for an AA jacket, take a look at the Rukka Navala 2 jacket which costs £1400 and is single A rated. I think people get to hung up on the A ratings to be honest. They are simply down to abrasion resistance but the Rukka for example has CE level 2 armour in all impact areas which would offer far more protection than this jacket, yet has a LOWER A rating.
I read that each A rating implies around 1 second of extra abrasion resistance which is naff all in the grand scheme of things. The armour underneath is far more important.

Again, looks too tight under the arm. I don't like it.
