I learned way more than I ever knew about boning out and using a squirrel. My son and his wife knew this stuff years ago: she said it was her duty to cook whatever her man brought in.
An American fella can't go wrong with Uncle Ben's Rice! The SPOON is 'Ace.' A generous-sized spoon is just what is needed to stir, serve, and dine from. MY GRANDFATHER brought spoons like this back from his Navy service in WWII.
My son trend 11 today and he loves to go outside and he has made bushcraft camps I am so proud of him for what he has done and he has your bushcraft101 book and he loves it so 1 day he will hopefully come out to your survival school and you are such a big role model for him and he looks up to you 😊
Squirrel and wabbits make for some good eats. Make you some stew next go round with the old timey lima beans and corn and tomatoes and black pepper and such. Squirrel and ramens is a good meal too. Hopefully your pack won't have 43 pockets like most of the packs offered these days. A canvas version of the ALICE pack would be a good one if it had good shoulder straps. Have fun. Be safe Thanks for the video
I bought the 8” skillet when it first came out. I thought it was too small at first but it turns out that the DEPTH is perfect! It holds plenty of food as well as ample room for storage. I have yet to use my 10” skillet but I’ve got grandkids now… This is my go to gear for Bushcraft cooking. Dave’s background is in engineering and he is constantly adding and improving this line of gear. I’m looking forward to what’s next😃
Thank you for the video Dave!! I plan on buying the Woodland camp chef kit. I would like to see the spatula and spoon added with the tongs, added to make a complete cooking kit. This is a brilliant idea/kit! Thank you for all you do, and the fantastic items you offer! Keep up the fantastic work my friend!!!
I do cast iron pot over open fire with quick tripod, make a roux and have squirrel gravy with a cathead biscut. More to the recipe than that, but it's great
Another, Spot On video Sir! I've been watching your videos for a long time (at least since you just started developing the sling bow (so, maybe 14ish years?)) And I keep getting new ideas to teach my 8yr old grandson. I actually showed him how to make a dish similar to this yesterday ,only using dove instead of squirrel.
Thx again "chef dave". You should try making my favorate camp dish. I use knorrs mac n cheese. And a starkist buffalo chicken packet. But i would imagine you could substitute the chicken packet for some similar game animal and some franks red hot. Give it a try. Any animal that eould be good with cheese and buffalo sauce flavoring would work. Knorrs are usually only about a 1.50 each and the chicken packet is usually only 2 bucks and some change. And they are pretty compact and lightweight.
Hey Brother. I just need a couple little things to round out my cooking kits. I have your Woodland Chef Kit, stainless steel bottle cook kit with extra nesting cup, and stainless steel canteen cook kit. Along with a second small bushpot, and an alcohol stove. So I have multiple kits for different situations. I'll be putting in another order here real soon.
Thank you for the videos dave! Don't know how you put up with some of the negative comments but all part of it i guess...keep on keeping on shoot straight and keep your powder dry..
I can watch these all day. Lots of skills here. A question for you also. You had a single squirrel and never cracked it's skull for the brains. Whenever my Father had several squirrels he always cooked their brains with bacon and eggs. Have you enjoyed them before? I know timing is a factor in these presentations, only curious, wishing all the best for ya.
Great video, Dave! Any idea when the Woodland Chef Cook Kit 2.0 will be available again? I've been wanting to pull the trigger on one, but it seems to be out of stock for a while.
What kind of water can/jug is that you have there? The guys from Coalcracker had a tan one looked like that with all kinds of attachments on the cap, forgot to ask while I was there. By the way the ring tripod trick is badass in the rain when you don’t want to be messing with knots. I wanna find some lightweight polymer rings for the kit
Great video! Still can't bring myself to eat a rodent unless I'm really hungry, but they are one of the most fun hunts to go on. I didn't even care if I got one. Did you just cook the rice in an unopened bag? Can you do that with all of the bagged rice like Knorr and others? Cool trick and nice cook set. It's a shame that they use some of the old style cookware around the world, that's more reasonably priced and lasts a long time, and we can't get it as easy here. I'd have to admit the stuff you've been working on at Pathfinder is really nice stuff. Quality and functional as camping gear (nesting and folding).
No. Knorrs has no liquid added. Thats ready rice. Knorrs is instant rice. The downside to the ready rice is that your carrying a lot of extra water weight to be able to cook it in the bag. I prefer instant rice. Like knorrs because it takes about the same ammount of time. For a lot less weight.
??? Could you do some cooking that diabetics could eat without causing there sugar levels to shoot up? Yes they have insulin they can use but it would be good if they have camp cooking ideas that wont cause their levels to go crazy and have a problem bringing back down. Just a thought.
Anyone requiring such a diet most likely already knows what they could and shouldn’t eat. I doubt Dave wants to venture into medical dietary needs. I will say that everyone should skip modern wheat and buy Einkorn flour. Look it up!
Enjoying the series!
I learned way more than I ever knew about boning out and using a squirrel. My son and his wife knew this stuff years ago: she said it was her duty to cook whatever her man brought in.
Canp biscuits, a scrambled egg and squirrel gravy. Breakfast, or dinner fit for a king. Yumm yumm.
Man you’re making me crave my late grandfathers squirrel and dumplings with every video Dave..❤
An American fella can't go wrong with Uncle Ben's Rice! The SPOON is 'Ace.' A generous-sized spoon is just what is needed to stir, serve, and dine from. MY GRANDFATHER brought spoons like this back from his Navy service in WWII.
My man the gear is cool and all but I can watch vids like this all day.
The beauty of this system is you can easily add outside gear to better serve your own purpose😃
You’re a great teacher and a great salesman, but it’s easy when the product is terrific.
That Cup Is An Old Jailhouse Cup LOL
Enough is as good as a Feast. I'm loving this series. A lot of neat ideas. Keep them coming and great job .
Mmmmm mmmmm! Backwoods basted squirrel! Dave, you definitely know how to smooth it. I'm really enjoying this series.
Excellent! Squirrel is so yummy! That 8” skillet is my own favorite when I’m camping!
wow very nice experience friend
Glad to see you doing the cooking show again mate. Great simple cooking kit, light & functional. Cheers DC from Australia.

And the lid with no vent holes makes it a mini Dutch Oven!
More campfire cooking vids. Great work!
Basic Chef Kit and add on extras. Very cool. Dave's always trying to innovate. I like it.
Cool kit lunch looks great I've been looking to get the tan pack but out of stock Everytime I look
A chefs size cook kit, just what I need to go camp.

Sunday dinner with the Canterbury’s!
Yes Sir ! Thanks 👌 ...Alan in 🇨🇱
i love my pathfinder bush pot and canteen set bet gear i ever bought... should last my entire life..
I like that pot hanging chain and ring. I found one on your website, but I like this ring design better.
I breaded some squirrels with hushpuppy mix the other day and ir was great.
Keep some in my camp box for that purpose exactly
Duluth Pack, wow that’s going to be amazing!!! Probably pricey but I bet it’s incredible and US made!
Great kit

Perfect!!!
You may look at prison mugs for your cup issue. I have a steel mug from Alcatraz that looks the same as your cup you have. Indestructible.
Thanks Dave

You should have a list for your cook set😮
Perfect

Coleman Surplus has stainless steel mugs.
Mmm squirrel !
Whooo.. Man! Golly
Excellent. I like the utensil set. I might have missed it on another video but how long is the chain on that steel ring? (Roughly)
Im just also prepairing a kit like this
Food always taste better in the woods lol
What brand of Squirrel call do you recommend for use when hunting? 🐿

🤙🏻
Wish i could do that
Dave, how big is the bowl you use for mixing? I want to get one to put in my Woodland Chef cook kit.
That cup looks like an old US NASH cup
It’s not o have looked at those in reseach
All I see missing is some onion or a foraged leek to spice it up a little.
How did the tent without the waterproof floor work out? I've never seen a tent built that way.

The rice is already cooked. He's warming it

Did you cut back on your use
of Old Bay ?
In the beginning - was that water you were washing the skillet out with before you turned it over? or a seasoning step?
Been looking at your Bush pots but hard to gauge the size… is that the 64oz you’re using in this vid?
Yes
Forgot- n*rthern t**l used to have stainless steel "camping"
cups. I have a half a dozen.
2 or 3 dollars each IIRC
How much of the squirrel did you use? Are they good?
Hey Dave what, if any, last resort items do you carry in your wallet?
So how is the shotgun working out, or is that propriatory information?
Which SG are you asking about?
Want to get the community’s opinion. I’m going to be cutting down a black gum in my yard how would this work for a kuksa, bowl and spoon?
I think King Charles might disagree. He might complain. About SOMETHING!
Nice job. Thanks for loosing the cheap shots. Keep up the good work.
But where are the veggies?
