Most people just do intermittent fasting because they don't want to bother about nutrients but if you go along with good & clean eating for sure lots of benefits you can achieve

That small beginning sparked massive further research into autophagy in human bodies. The NCBI and PubMed websites have search functions where one can find numerous articles into autophagy. Also Professor Valter Longo is doing applied research, starting with mice and rats and applying to humans, and he has come out with his own version of fasting diet to induce autophagy.
Prof. Longo also featured in the BBC program, "Eat, Fast, and Live Longer". It is an eye opener. Empirical data for humans is gathering.

Muslims fast for almost 30 days during the Month of Ramadan where they abstain from consuming any form of food or drink including water for a period that varies between 12 -17 hours depending on the location. The Holy Qura’an tells about fasting: “But to fast is best for you, if you only knew” Surah 2: verse 184. Moreover, it was reported that the prophet of Islam peace be upon him said: “If you fast, you get well”. It is amazing and worth pondering about: how the proven science of autophagy confirms the accuracy and the wisdom of Qura’an and the prophet traditions.

What wisdom of the Quran, the fasting as a method is being used as long as there is written history, also muslims dont drink water during the fast which is dangerous, I had a muslim colleague and the poor guy looked like he was about to die everytime I see him near the end of his fast.
