      Regarding MS' ABK layoffs- a popular CZcamsr that runs a law firm specializing in mergers and acquisitions claims the 1900 people laid off is right in line with industry M&A norms. Additionally, it's likely ABK delayed layoffs during 2023 in anticipation of the acquisition completing successfully.

      There are a few YTX cases already. YTX started off from a collab with Bilibili creator known as DIY Ape. Xikii has a case that's built for a specific GPU, LTT even did a video on it. XTIA also has a version of the xproto made for YTX boards. It also seems like certain MATX cases are compatible with this design

    The YTX form is basically mATX cut down, not ITX scaled up. They say it is cheaper to manufacture than mATX. Since most people buy matx just because of the price and do not fully utilize all pcie lanes, they decided to cut these board parts and use those pcie lanes to put more m2 port on the board.

    • @MisterLindsay
      @MisterLindsay Před 3 měsíci +40

      Indeed. If I used this in my mATX case, it should fit the case fine, would be much less awkward for cable management around the GPU, and especially accessing the m.2 slot that requires GPU removal.
      (Could also be solved by having a better laid out mATX board, but with this it's built into the design.)

      @@JiajuChenCould also make a lot of sense as alternative to ITX for compact gaming builds. GPUs are long, so you typically end up with a lot of empty space next to the motherboard. Might as well use that for some extra expandability.
      Yeah, in some cases you may have to move the PSU up slightly to put the MB behind it, but then you'd also have a decent amount of room for air coolers, or even a wider radiator.

      Still sucks for current Ally owners because of the sd card issue. Straight up evil to not at least say something about it. Doesnt affect me because SSD, but either a trade in program or discount for owning the first Ally. Idk, something. Cant imagine how fast id return the Ally if the Sd card port was fine and the internal m.2 slot would fry at some point. Not to mention everyone HATES the damn locked down XG port. Meanwhile everyone else can use their desktop gpus on their handhelds if they want to. Regardless if its slower, the barely faster doesnt help the alot more expensive trade off. Those 2 things sometimes make me stare at my Ally and feel like its inferior, even if i dont use those features. Paid for something i cant use or im not rich enough to use.

      Clevo put even HEDT sockets in laptops in the Ivy Bridge era alongside their desktop sockets, they did LGA1151 after Intel stopped doing mobile PGA sockets with Haswell, their final one was the X170SM with 11900K. Got a 9900K in P870DM3 right here that pulls up to 170W, the fact its still working fine 7 years on is why I havent really bothered upgrading
      These days it still kinda continues, but they're soldered, Dragon Range 7945HX3D is the same dies and packaging as 7950HX3D, and 13900HX is the same 8P+16E core silicon as 13900K, just with lower power limits

    I feel like the first case that comes to mind when I see this YTX board (apart from the rear-mounted I/O connections) is the NZXT H210. I feel like if they had just left the connectors on the "traditional" side of the board then you would have a much better chance of fitting it into cases, especially smaller dual-chamber ones like the DIYPC-Q3-ARGB (highly recommend checking out that case by the way. Basically a $50 O11 Dynamic that's mATX but fits an ATX PSU in the rear).

    @17:20 that form factor is a perfect match for cases like the Krux Naos/Intertech IM1/Nox Xtreme (it comes with different brandings) or the SSUPD Meshroom D - i.e. cases that are designed to just barely fit a micro-ATX board (in case of the SSUPD you even need an extension base to actually with the full height).
    I have the IM1 here with an mATX board and a full-size ATX PSU, and it's really tight for intake fans at the bottom (they interfere with the FP connectors at the edge of the mainboard) - YTX would really be _perfect_ in this case.
    Only problem is that SFF cases generally don't have room for connectors on the back of the board (that would be kinda counter-productive to being small...). So to be actually useful they'd need to use a more traditional connector placement on the front.

    I spotted those MAXSUN boards, too ... and (frankly) they should fit in MANY ITX cases ... I'm specifically looking at the passive cases ... this is for good reason, though ... because they give themselves more space for NVME (potentially) ... meaning that you can *_potentially_* build an NVME based NAS in a silent case and still have a slot free to improve connectivity / amount of drives.
