YES! I’ve wanted Leroy with a normal trans and a 9” for two years, excellent news. WAY less breakage, more time to make the suspension work right. Excited to see what Mullet will do with the 400, too. Next year’s gonna rock pretty hard.
I think a lot of us on here has been pulling for Leroy to go front mount transmission for awhile.

A friend had a 71 Chevy estate wagon (402 powered) and shifted the turbo 400 into reverse at 35mph. it just smoked the tires and started going backwards! Toughest trans I ever saw.

I accidentally did the same in my 79 C20. The th400 was fine. It now has a well built 406sbc and a th400 that my Uncle built....he has done th400 units for some of the top baja 1000 trucks with the same reid case this trans has, and he does drag strip versions as well. My truck is built for hauling a trailer or hauling ass, not necessarily racing, so the trans isn't as wild...stock ugly case with good internals.

M&M transmissions are unbelievable. His shop is about 45 miles from me. Back in the day he used to build transmissions for stock applications and built his own torque converters. They are bullet proof...you won't be sorry.

I had a feeling you were thinking about doing a 4 link conversion but I wasn't really sure if it was the way to go either. Just switching to the front mounted T56 will be a game changer! I would love to see Leroy move back into that top tier of fastest stick shift cars in the world next year!
He was never the fastest stick shift, he was the fastest GM stick shift. There's stick shifts in the 6s. Mullet ain't even close to the fastest stick shifts yet

He's going to have to get into the 6.70's if he wants the world's fastest stick shift car. He only held the gm stick record before. I'm not sure what that record is now.

Thinking about making the switch to faceplated on two of my T56’s for a couple of my Trans Ams and you guys have been a big help in seeing what sort of things a guy would deal with on breakage,maintenance and clutch adjustment.

What a gorgeous piece! Glad to see you got a bolt together lock up converter! It’s going to take a little time to dial in the tune but this is going to make a huge difference both in performance and reliability. Tunnel is gonna need a little “massaging”.

Yep. Remove one bottleneck and another one always forms. Engine will probably be next, and I don't think Texas Speed makes a better motor than the one he has in Mullet now so maybe there will be a Steve Morris engine coming soon.
SMX with a crank driven/direct Pro-Charger. Turbos aren't consistent enough for the track. Only time will tell
@@Hanibul_Lecktor Turbo's aren't consistent? it's not the 80s and 90s anymore, all turbo's do is create boost, the issues lay in the wastegates, superchargers use power to make power and can only go so far
Garrett I really love how you incorporate Texas Speed in a lot of builds, but that transmission deserves something like a Steve Morris engine hooked up to it.
Your not wrong I feel like Texas speed is good for a street car but need a real "race" engine to out that car into the 6s
He only uses parts from his sponsors. It's sad and definitely limiting but what can you do. If anything mullet should be the "racecar" and Leroy, ruby, any others should be using sponsor parts. My opinion though
SM built Cleetus a motor a while back but i havent seen it on the channel yet or heard anything about it or where its going....

When Steve Griner died, Mark got all his 400 valve body fixtures and blueprints. Steve invented the trans brake as we know it today

Moving the trans forward will be interesting. I get it from a service side of things but moving the weight forward off the rear tires seems like it has the potential to be a little counter-productive for 60 foots on an IRS car.

Considering the record in X275 is 4.156 at 175, those tires are just barely getting warmed up.

@@drewlehnert5497 yes, the trans has been in the stock location, bolted to the diff until now. He's getting a t56 manual to bolt to the engine with a conventional driveshaft to the new diff.

A 5 second top fuel dragster would be the slowest car in the class. Those things are running mid 3s these days and without a big time sponsor even the big boys can't afford to run.

Pretty sure what he meant was they'll finish the quarter mile in 3rd so there won't be a need to lock the convertor. But we'll see - there might be a benefit to locking it once they do some test hits.

keeping Leroy irs would probably be a lot easier than making it four link it will probably go just as fast as a four link if you get that suspension dialed in just right
been around transmissions my entire life and let me tell you how much fun you are about to have with that new 3 speed. you are gunna love having that 3rd gear to push it down the track it is literally a make or break situation for your power range. your "tuner" knows exactly what to do lol.

I'm really impressed in that transmission! I was wondering if a Quick change rear would work in Leroy? My thoughts were you can change ratio per track. The nice thing with one is changing in mins and the gears don't weigh a lot which means you can have a bunch of different ones. Just an idea

@@davidjohnson8474 the problem with that is a rear end change changes how the car launches and thus changes the launching strategy
As long as they’re always running a quarter mile there isn’t really a need to change rear end gears a bunch. The main point of a quick change is changing gears for different circle tracks or road courses where the tracks are way different speeds or sizes.
Plus a quick change will have a bigger power loss compared to something like a 9”. The quick change has more gears which adds more drag.
Remember they do run 1/8th mile too and more gear can help

With the tail gear in the rear end and pretty tall tires it won't be that bad. I had a similar set up gear wise (no where else was even close, haha) and 70 was a little under 3 grand.

Absolutely!!!
M&M is just as good. When you get to this level, the builds are bullet proof. There are only small items that make the racers choose between the two. Just because you hear about Rossler all of the time on the TV show doesn't automatically make them the best.

@@paulcopeland9035 Yes, I agree. We’ve run both transmissions. Just prefer Rossler. We actually know Carl Rossler personally. My father competed against him for years, and lives in the same area. Just know a lot of other people as well that prefer his transmissions as well.
