guys theres more to Sam than you know, he is relatively well off since he co-owned a business with multiple locations and sold it about 2 years ago, he used to race in the past with a 7-up sponsored team and before that he was the engine builder for that team, he used to drag race motorcycles, he is also a metallurgist and used to teach a college course on it and he is also a master machinist and he just recently built his own race shop, he is not the old bored retired guy you think he is, he knows more about cars, racing and fabricating than anyone on cleetus's team.

I give you MAD props for keeping your cool on camera after spinning the tires after all that work. It takes a lot out of someone to keep their cool after that ON camera
Never a good idea to “hot lash” valves. By the time you start lashing to the time you finish lashing the engine has cooled some. Meaning your first valve lashed will be a different clearance than your last valve lashed. If no choice besides a hot lash do one bank as fast as possible start the engine to get it back up to temp, the same temp. Then lash the other bank.
Thats kinda what i was thinking, i always heard it was better to do them cold or with it running

@@brandonleisure9999 doing it running isn’t recommended either. Also only pertains to hydraulic cams not solid. It’s an old school shade tree way people would set the lifter preload. I’ve even seen people cut old valve covers up to make access windows to help control oil spray. They back the adjuster off till the rocker clatters, tighten it just till it quits, then go 1/2 turn. Lock it down. Basically when the clatter stops that’s “zero lash” then half turn sets the plunger preload inside the lifter. Can be done, but not very accurate imo. I follow exhaust opening, intake closing method.
Best time to do valve lash is first thing in the morning - aka when the motor has absolutely NO heat in it. I wouldn’t do it any other way unless it was an emergency.
They did it with heat in the motor and look what happened.
I learned that lesson very early on.
Can’t believe they did that, but hey, I guess that’s how they got their lesson.
I tend to warm up the engine, then set the lash on an intake and one exhaust.
Then after everything has cooled, I use those two valves as my reference to set cold lash.
After that, checking hot lash is easy and fast. Remember there's a big difference between setting hot lash and checking hot lash. I set mine cold and sometimes check hot. Only takes a few minutes to check once the valve covers are off as all you do is stick in that feeler gauge to verify lash.
If lash needs adjusting, find out what's wrong, because lash usually only changes if something is about to break or is already broken.

You know this morning I went to start my car and it caught fire and almost burnt to the ground and I’ve been bummed out all day until I saw this video and even after everything that happened to y’all today you still put a smile on your face and made the best of it and this video made my day! That nasty backfire was exactly what my tuned Evo 8 would do in colder, and even damp summer temps. No amount of data logging could figure it out. I’m just guessing colder and denser air causing overboost? The flames out the back were cool though! 😂

And it's great to have almost everybody on the trip this year. I do miss Brent riding with Cleet, but I know he's stoked to be riding with his son, and Dr. BendaRod is great too, so it's all good.

I’ve used this in in multiple commercial vehicle applications, but instead of using rain-ex have Sam apply some of that fine wax that he’s using to make the units look amazing (great job Sam) to the windshields and all windows of the fleet units. Lower cost and works better!
Sometimes if we didn't have bad luck we wouldn't have any luck at all. Just remember that nothing last forever. One day the valley the next your on a mountain top. Keep working and your luck will change for the better. We love that you keep it real. You show the bad and we live it with you. So when things are awesome we can share with your success. But we have a 1993 Mercedes and a 94 Miata for the fun things in life, and they will both stay naturally aspirated for now ;)
