Paul I can’t tell you how much I enjoy watching your videos , I don’t care what the subject I just enjoy your manner of explaining things . Keep up the great work . It is great to watch because of how much you seem to enjoy every facet of life . Love to sit and have a beer one day and chat , you pick the topic .
It would be my pleasure to do so.
I love your optimism, Paul, especially during the pandemic time like now. BIG THANKS, sir.
"...i ain't breaking that spell!..."
i thankfully know that magic. wise words to live by. thanks for the effort and the sharing. thumbs up.
Paul, I admire your honesty and passion. I'm glad you and your wife have made a good marriage. Thanks for the videos.
I agree Paul, most people treat music as something to do while they are doing something else
When I listen to music, THAT IS WHAT IM DOING
Agreed! Listening to music is an activity in itself. Trying to concentrate on work while good music is playing is difficult for me, and maybe you and Paul as well. Also, strolling along with earbuds in, oblivious to the sounds around me, doesn't do justice to either, and it can be risky, too, plus you miss whatever interesting things may be seen or be happening around you. Multi-tasking is a myth. Tests have shown that people can't literally do two things at once. Instead, their attention flits from one job to the other, and neither one gets 100% of the person's attention.
Many decades ago, while I was a motorcycle mechanic, the other mechanic brought in his older home stereo, complete with cassette deck. We gave up on it within a week or two, because our attention had become focussed on which tune or album to play next, instead of getting the valve clearances or timing exactly correct on the bikes we were working on. We went back to the tinny radio playing the local Top 40 station, and we did better work, with less mental fatigue.
@@nomorokay while i dont agree with killing the brain cells with top 40 garbage, if you must have something going, it should be something that you arent paying attention to.....when i work, its in silence, but thats me......
It is very easy to falling into the trend of keeping work and home separate, so I don't fault you paul. I worked as a sous chef for 5 years when getting my education, and I STILL have a hard time making myself cook anything more complicated than a hot pocket, and the weird part is, when I actually do cook, I enjoy myself. My brain labeled it 'work' and thus, doesn't even want to touch that when 'off the clock'.
No other company does this, the sheer enthusiasm and belief in the product is incredibly positive. Thank you, very enjoyable.
Believes so much in his product that he uses Emotiva amplifiers at home......... wow
@@jsmctch , cheap shot, funny, but cheap. to top it off, you _missed_ .
PS Audio only makes 2 channel amps.
@@googoo-gjoob Last time I checked you can use multiple 2 channel amps in a home theater system also who said he or I were talking about home theater. Nice shot trying to play gotcha but you missed

oh, & who said? he said... & you sniped.

Great video!!! Very revealing!!! Isn’t it amazing that in the end, it’s all about family and the people you love!!! ☮️🖖🏽
Just discovered your channel... Love it can't believe I hadn't seen it before! Some straight forward answer without the bull. Thanks!
Great Paul! You are always honest with your audience. That’s One of the reasons that we like you.
You seem like such a very cool guy and again thank you so much for the really interesting videos! Your honesty is so refreshing! I also have a feeling you're probably a good guy to work for as well.
I enjoy listening to Paul. He always has a way of putting things in context... Popcorn, grandkids, and a wife chosen over a HiFi system.
Harmony with the family is key. You’ve got your priorities intact , you’re the coolest!
Very nice, fun video as always. Thanks for sharing your stories in your affable demeanor with a loving heart.
It took me a long time to learn that marital harmony is more important than loud speakers in the living room 😉. Had to smile as I listened to your tale. Love your videos.
Fascinating Paul, always love your videos and enjoy your honest and down to earth answers to questions. I can relate too, as a Hi-fi reviewer for Soundstage network I do have a good hi-fi system at home, but as an airline pilot which is the day job my wife has a tough time pursuading me to fly anywhere on vacation! Bliss for me is a car packed with a tent, our kayak and the open road leading to a campsite in a wild location... No check-in, no queues, no flights, no foreign currency...
Rumor has it that Paul has a Bose Wave Radio at home
That's not a rumor. Fact stranger than fiction.

that's funny !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!-a bose wave radio !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bose. Lol
spingarn he is old now i believe it
This is always the way it is. The gardener's garden. The car mechanic's car, the builder's house.
I love watching your videos Paul. They are always great
Wonderful detail. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing your Saturday.
My Grandfather had a saying.... " The shoemaker's kid was always barefoot" . I think it sorta fits what you are saying about your home system. I enjoy your videos, keep it up.
Your a good man. Enjoy your channel. Thanks.
just by listening to Paul, you can tell he is a good man
Wonderful Paul. I enjoy every vid, Thanks 4 keeping it real 😁 Almost exact storyline of my life & Audio...
3 Adult Children & 5 Grandkids too👍 I’ve Loved helping others become
Lovers of Audio. Giving up some gear but keeping others is hard work😂😂 like a toy
when you were a little kid eh? And I like the Fact that Video did their part in R&D over the
decades, knowing the 2 are like soul mates👍
May God keep on Blessing you and everything that you do. Love your videos all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦
I like your videos. I have two receivers, in my office (actually the front room) in my house. One is a Panasonic RA-6100 connected to my desktop computer at my desk. The other is a Yamaha RX-396 connected to a drum synthesizer on my full-size mock-up of a drum set. I also have an old Marantz receiver on my electronic work bench in the basement. All the plugs in the back are connected to a panel in the front so I have access to them all. When working on audio equipment I use those for testing input and output of whatever I'm working on.
I'd also like to say congrats on your years of marriage. This coming New Years Eve will be our 31st Anniversary.
Good stuff Paul! Been watching for about a month now, not sure what caught my attention, but its pretty cool to know your background, especially with the Infinity towers and your contribution to that company. Always remember wanting to have high end equipment but now in my 40's, I'm slowly acquiring some great stuff. Thanks for the info!
N S Do it! That’s the way to go. I always wanted a really good stereo, but kept putting it off. When my younger brother passed away at age 51, I thought that I’d better get to it! I bought a little receiver (used), then a good Technics turntable (and learned how good vinyl can sound). I had my 1980 speakers re-surrounded, and there was a start. I’d dreamed of getting a pair of Klipsch La Scalas since I was 20, so when I spotted an old pair of them in the vintage hi-fi shop I grabbed them. A couple of minor updates and upgrades, and they sounded better than new.
The trick (a main one) is to have the money when you spot a bargain. Another “trick” is patience. Keep your eyes open for genuine bargains. Open a stereo account, and put something into it every month. It will keep building up if you keep adding to it. That way, when you see a great deal, you don’t need to hesitate. Research carefully and quickly, and snap it up if it fits your plan. Saving up is the best way to buy, and cash is king.
Finally, don’t upgrade in little steps. It’s more economical and fun to try to get what you really want in the first place, not something that’s halfway there, unless you enjoy selling stuff as you upgrade. I don’t, so my plan worked for me.
One thing led to another, and 16 years later, I have a system beyond my wildest dreams. I’m really glad that I made that first step, because it was the start of a great trip, with many exciting stops. Now, just walking into the living room puts a big smile on my face. Good luck on your trip.
Anto from India. Total respect for you. One track mind. Family time. Family over self. Total respect.
Love the videos Paul keep them up!!!!
Everyone chasing the perfect dream system and this icon doesn’t have one. Helps put our budgets in perspective. He’s got an emotive amp at home. I feel my ears didn’t let me down, plus it was budget friendly. Now if I could only have a career I’m just as passionate about too!!!
Doesnt have a dream system? Music room one is probably more than sufficient.
I am new to your channel but really enjoying it. I know a good amount about electric guitar amps and business of making loud rock & roll, but only a wannabe audiophile when it comes to high end home audio. I'm only 58 so there's plenty of time to get there! I do really enjoy analog equipment and tube amps. I do some home recording and production work. My income comes from a different passion and that is for software development and emerging technology.
What inspired me to comment was I loved the way you closed out this video with "I ain't breaking that spell" talking about marital harmony. That said a lot to me about Paul, the man, and more than I've learned already about Paul, the CEO and co-founder of PS Audio.
As an IT professional I can kind of relate to this. I’m often asked what kind of crazy computer I have at home or which video games I play; When frankly, the last thing I want to do when I get home from work is touch a damn computer.
I have written bespoke software for the last 25 years. All my current customers insist on one version or other of Microsoft Windows. Some ask me what version of Windows I run at home. Their eyes glaze over when I tell them "Linux". That's just what gives me the least trouble.
You missed the point. Paul loves what he does and we wants to have a high music system at home!
@@Fluterra I didn't mean to suggest that our circumstances were strictly analogous; it’s clear Paul is accommodating his wife's aesthetic preference as much as anything.
(𝑊ℎ𝑖𝑐ℎ 𝑖𝑠 𝑏𝑜𝑡ℎ 𝑤𝑖𝑠𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎𝑑𝑚𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒.)
I just appreciate the kind of irony that often arises when one is a professional in such industries. People expect that the ‘system’ you 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑥𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑡 have at home is really going to be something special; When in actuality having ‘ᴛʜᴀᴛ’ home system just isn't so important when you're lucky enough to do what you love every day for a living.
Paul, I think you would have to be probably the coolest CEO I have ever come across. I love that you don't take yourself or life too seriously, but are passionate about the things that really matter. Should I ever venture to the other side of the planet, I would love to meet you.
Happy wife, happy life! You are a smart man, Paul!
Love that Paul has Emotiva for his home theater !
RS-1bs were my second set of speakers, back in 1983. My first set were Magnepan MG-1 Improveds, in 1980 (purchased at Listen Up). I started off strong, for a college student (when I was going to school in Boulder BTW)! I used the RS-1s with a Conrad/Johnson PV-5 preamp, MV-75a1 amp for the top end, and Phase Linear DRS900. Front end was a Linn, followed by a SOTA. I am fortunate enough, after all these years, to have a surround system, and a separate purpose built music room dedicated to stereo. Domestic harmony ensured!
I went to Audio Engineering school at Colorado Audio Institute. We used to go to Listen Up all the time. Back in the summer and fall of 1982. They had the coolest sound gear there. That was back when they were on Pearl St. While I know there were better speakers on the market, I fell in love with Klipsch La Scala's. I have yet to own a pair. They may not be "the most refined" set of speakers, they would probably sound as good to my old ears as anything else, and do it at volume...
Paul, I'd love to see the home theater setup. Please make a vid one day when you get a chance, thanks!
My wife and I downsized to a mid century ranch a few years ago anticipating retirement. The house had a mid 60's era 14 x 21' screened in porch with the ceiling part of the house's roofline and a concrete floor with a crawl space under. We finished it into the best listening room I've ever had in my home. Better than almost any I've ever had in my store as well. My wife is great!!! As is my system, but your new speakers intrigue me....
40 yrs - congratulations!!
U are great man🥰
Paul do you use a differential discrete input stage with current mirror on all your amplifier designs?
„You are a great man“ PAUL! cheers
Hi Paul. I have a pair of Harbeth monitors that would make your head spin and would go great in your living room. The imaging from them is amazing!
That input board you are holding 0:30-0:59, i see that you have 3 types of capacitor on it. Please tell us which ones are they, and what they are dedicated for. i think those tall ones looks like elna silmic II? which yellow and short ones are. thanks
Paul, thank you for keep promoting audio... last 10 years was like the world changed so fast, the audio world in many places just becoming less relevant to our life and enjoyment.
I spent 3 years to modify a small music player to my liking, just as an old age challenge, but often it's very lonely. Unlike in the 60s and 70s, electronics readily attracted everyone attention
Sometimes a good home cinema it's all you need actually :) Anyway, interesting to know you use Emotiva Amps; Great value for money, I will also use one of them in my surround setup.
I've been to Chautauqua a couple times. Very nice area around that. There's a castle looking house on one of the streets.
Could you please link me to the video, in which you describe the differences between balanced and unbalanced outputs?
dir why are you instaling professional input xlr to your home amps range?
What do you think of the Denon PMA-2500NE? There seem to be few words about it online.
Do you use Hipex class d module in Stellar amps?
Good chat, really enjoyed it and now I will search out your products up here north of the border. I am not technical but know my speakers are transmission line, old castle Chesters, any opinion on that method of design?
Hi Mr. Paul. I'm sure this will go unnoticed, but I have to comment on this video. Up until 2 months ago I had no idea who you were. Fair enough. I googled a question about surge protectors and came across your video that was titled "audiophile surge protectors".. I listened to your words and came out more knowledgeable than going in. I am a self-proclaimed Audiophile with no money. I may not have the best of the best,... but I have the best of what I can afford.. your demeanor and heart goes a very long way with me. You mentioned grandkids in one of the videos and that's what it's all about... But since I set up this new system from surge protector to new TV to new receiver to new 4k DVD and Atmos stuff, I will always come back to see what you think. Thank you so much for these lessons later in my life. I wish I would have been following you since 1985- 86 - 87.... Your heart is one of a kind as an Audiophile. ❤️
I can remember he said they have now the KEF LS50 and love it.
I’ve also been a victim of fingers in a tweeter, and also my turntable’s acrylic platter sports a rather fetching scratch across it which follows the arc of the stylus as my 4 year old dragged it across.
I had the same problems in the mid 80's, kid's with speaker killing fingers. 😅
Have a fairly high end system and it demands to be listened to not talked over. If you want to talk then there's always Elac UniFi or Yamaha 1000 mini monitors but not Martin Logan. Cheers Paul for your unassuming and honest approach to our business and hobby.
Paul. The circuit boards you show at the beginning of the video are made in the USA or overseas?
"Marital Harmony means more to me than just about anything......" that is the most important ingredient to a good sound system. Best way to reduce background hum and remove transients from your listening space. God bless you Paul.
I was hoping it would be 80's double deck boombox. :)
paul what do you think of van den hul carbon cables
how about exiters on sound boards?
I also can not listen to music and do other tasks. As an audiophile and a musician, when I’m listening to music my brain locks in.
Paul McGowan ,
5:47 - As opera music is sometimes an acquired or niche taste ( I listen to a little during free-flowing, nebulous, open creativity around but only have grown to listen to maybe a dozen pieces ) , what makes up your operatic listening?
The wife factor man... that is more important than any other number on your stereo system, for sure!
You have also lost your way in this culture of confused individuals (females). Yes I did say that! Man up and take back your passion for things that are your bliss! If you don't it will turn you into someone your wifey does not respect or even like. Why would any man remove the passions he has in life when they define the man that attracted his wife to him? Take it or leave it. Ive been with my wife for 30 years. I give you licence to take back your bliss!
I now return my attention to logical and rational subject matter.
Listen well
Mark Nash it's a wonderful advise to be honest. Plus every time you dish your passions, you dish what makes you be alive and cheerful. No partner would appreciate that.
I listen to music with no problem at home, and I have what I can. We don't step on each other's heads or hearts. However, it's a fun joke... Because still, I refrain my music sickness to also direct energy in other things we both enjoy.
But hey, I absolutely agree. Thank you for taking the time to say that... To me or anyone else who need perspective.
Best regards
Or you could just make sure your partner loves the same things as you before you marry them and they you don't have to run off and hide to enjoy them...my girlfriend loves good audio and music as much as me and hifi is in pride of place in the lounge
I love lots of things that my wife also does. We are even both professionals on the same field, but I mean, we all do our best! haha I think I was lucky enough already. And she likes music, I am just a maniac about it sometimes... But I agree with your point overall Neil.
I use to be sound engineer working with Neve and SSL consoles. Listening to $60.000 speakers everyday for 10-12 hours. When I was driving home I NEVER turned my car sistem that I bought a year before I started sound enginering and I payed $6000 for it (Becker with Focal speakers) At home I also listened maybe once or twice a week for an hour or so. The joy of sound was gone.....
Would be so awesome to get to work on audio industry as an audio engineer. To put my heart and soul into designing new amplifiers and speakers, build the prototypes by hand and hear the results really fascinates me.
It's called DIY. Have at it.
I remembered Paul my age 15 I love to hit my finger to the tweeter
really love this series, but the fact that Paul does mostly background music at home is quite funny in my opinion
I just made a old school to-3 transistors amp whit only the essential components and it sounds amazing no buzz no high pitched wine no treble/Bass only volume control and I still thinking if I need it
How cool that you use Emotiva! I use their low end stuff but I do like their stuff.
You mentioned the effects of children's fingers on tweeters. In my case, my son threw a baseball, the dog missed, and the left side woofer ribbon of a pair of Apogee Duetta II speakers was torn beyond repair. I gave them away to a good friend for salvage. Never did know what he did with them. I love my son more than the speakers and it wasn't as big of a deal as it could have been. That was about 18 years ago. I've been married for 40 years like you. Lots of amps, speakers and the like have come and gone. Stories accompany each piece.
I once had my young daughter push in a driver. That was because I used them grilles off. Years later, I now use Audio Note speakers, which have no grilles. My dedicated music room has a door with a lock, to keep the grandkids out!
Mr. Paul, you are a good man...
Paul, Invisa speakers are from Goldenear and I'm sure you were thinking of the Sonance Invisible series speakers. How about a small pair of Totem Tribe Towers or won't the wife go for those?
Long may you rock, Paul.
Thank you, kind sir!
Nice
you are one likeable dude:)
Just wonder, why you use emotiva instead of your company amp?
I can't find Pauls Home Theater video =/.
Glad to hear your involved with family when home, as few are these days. Family is and should be No.1. But hopefully you instilled the importance of music, which I imagine with your job you have, and I think should be a top 5 priority in people (and hopefully 1 or all 4 children wish to follow in your footsteps. lol ). Music is the ONLY thing that can stimulate the soul. Even Opera. lol! I'm single now, 50, and listen on average 4 hours of loud (so you feel the music don't just hear it) of music a day. I have a pretty decent JBL set up, run everything digital fiber optics and it sounds really good and clear. I think it is terribly healthy to listen to music as it evokes emotions which is the "soul". Remember, we are mind, body and spirit. All need stimulation and cared for to be healthy. We work our brains (problem solving) and body (exercise) but forget about the soul (that voice you think is in your head when you think to yourself. yep, that's the soul. or any feeling of anger, love, happiness etc yep that's the soul too). And it is music, the sound waves that pass through your body that stimulate it. And I believe it is the stimulation of the soul that empowers it to be healthy. (I like to think my evil rock and roll scares everything bad out of my body. lol! ) Life without music would be a mistake! That's why Heaven is full of music. Probably Opera. And hell too, that damn rock and roll. LOL! Thx.
You're a good man
"in house of blacksmith the barbecue skewer is made of wood" - LOL Brazilian popular saying

A true audiophile cannot be married. 🔊🎼
that is true but for home stereo it is best to use a preamp with gold rcas.
Hi Paul,
Being a non-youngin myself I find myself going through phases...
First a Sound Design (JCPenny stereo)then car, then a car with nice stereo, Hotrod, Hotrod with nice stereo, Motorcycle, Ultimate computer gaming machine, then Virtual reality and then home Theater. All in all I guess I always come back to the music but nowadays it doubles as surround sound for the VR as well.
Waiting on that price drop on the TI, currently ruining 980 OC
We only have computer speakers. Ben thinking about building a vacuum tube amp. Maybe some panel speakers.
Hey Paul, happy 2019; just curious that you are the CEO/Cofounder of psaudio and you have emotiva amps powering your home theatre
Probably a cost/benefit thing.
He wont use state of the art ps audio to eatch movies
Hello Paul. I do enjoy your videos. In your home theater it looks like you're running either Emotiva XPA or maybe XPR amps. Why on earth would you not use your own? I'm just curious. I also use Emotiva amps. I think the older XPR's are better than anything they currently offer. That and the fact that they won't service the older signature series says something. Does PS continue to service the older equipment? I'm asking because I'm hunting a used upscaling DSD direct stream DAC. That's the only way I can afford one. But I'm still curious about your company's repair/rebuild policy?
what a guy!
The IRS 2.5 with the EMIM's and the EMITs were hard to drive but sound pretty damn good.
Such a nice guy who knows his audio
Yeah my music addiction heped end two marriages .Both of them used to tell me dont buy anything else until you listen to or watch all your albums ,then DVDs and then Cds...and how many speakers do you need to buy .
geno pal meanwhile they usually go out and buy all sorts of things :)
Wie trying to dictate to you how you spend YOUR money?
Paul I would love for your company to design a range of av receivers. I think your knowledge on how to design and implement technologies would lead to some world class av receivers.
Multichannel amps might be viable, but have you looked at the setup costs associated with licensing for receivers / AV prepro gear ? PS Audio would be trying to compete in a very competitive market - even at their prices - and I very much doubt that the volumes would justify the investment. That aside, those of us who love 2-channel dont want to see another name brand move into HT : the 90s were painful enough.
Arthur Watts I hear you, good points.
Great story Paul, thank you! And hey, you have all the goodies at work!
What do you think of Definitive Technology?
my question pertains to Theater Room opinion, not music.
Great story and so much like most of us have experienced. My rec room, the wife refers to as the mancave, has a 2 channel (reference) system but also functions as the home theater. So a new SONY 65" OLED into the optical output on the DS Dac to BHK Amps to Sopra 3's w/ subs. No way was my wife letting me take over the living room or any other room in the house, for that matter , with a reference 2 channel system separate from the TV. It may be overkill but I do though enjoy the TV sound thru the 2 channel system.
I had to separate them, or I would never get to play music. Experience bore that out in a prior home...

My biggest take away from Paul's videos is he's a great guy and I'd love to hang out with him.
Thanks! It'd be fun.
Interesting.. why Emotiva amps? :). You have an ownership or they are a supplier?
