This type of content is what made me join a BJJ gym a bit over 2 years ago. Really helped me during my 3 year police program (its mandatory to complete this before the academy where I live. We had legal, social and physical clases( which included co,batives))., right now I am a couple weeks out from the academy.
I always kept the police job in mind when rolling, so I stayed focused on wrestling and control. I am a blue belt now, good wrestling and overall a solid game (for my level), but my guard sucks haha
Have also been working security for 3 years. BJJ has helped me multiple times restraining aggresive people( people that tried to punch me, a collegues, kick others, bite etc.). Couple of my team members have joined BJJ gyms because they saw how efficient it was at restraining people without me getting injured or the individual.
BJJ has saved my butt a couple times now, and it was crazy how efficient it was. All the situations were handled in a matter of a couple seconds. Went from very dangerous to controlled very quickly.
I encourage anybody with LE career aspirations to go train. I can't wait to finally be in the patrol car.

Great interview. I am working my way through the mentioned EF Combatives Online modules with private BJJ lessons from a civilian instructor. It really gives a great way to structure your learning.

Anyone interested in training Police Jiu Jitsu in the Sacramento area. Ares BJJ in Roseville has Police Jiu Jitsu classes Mondays at 0930 and Friday at 0930 open to all sworn LE.

Great topic. On the topic of the difference of mat BJJ and LEO BJJ. The skill is awesome but there is a difference in applications in LEO. For example terrain will dictate. Border Patrol Agents work in some of the most unforgiving terrain from deserts, mountains and forests. Some of these techniques would be hard to apply however it is good to have on your tool belt.
