In this video BJJ Black belts and popular podcast hosts Joe Rogan and Jocko Willink talk Jiujitsu and discuss how it's almost like a Super Power once you have spent years learning the martial art. They also talk about the reasons that Jiujitsu is so addictive compared to other sports and how other sports a lot of the time end up in fights.

Im 54 , I started at 49 and I train 4 days per week every week. I roll 15/ 20 people per week . My sons do it and my 5yr old grandson got his first white stripe 2 days ago. 3rd generation . Jiujitsu transforms lives for the better.
Thatâs gold mate
Same thing here brother. Its awesome
Iâm 49 now and been boxing for the last year. Really wanting to get started with BJJ as well. Thanks for the motivation.
Thatâs freaking awesome sir
I got my blue belt in 2002 and quit in 2003. I am currently 41 years old. The pandemic gave me the motivation and time to start backup. I have been doing it 3-4 days a week for the last 13 months. I still have a way to go for my purple. Now I don't even care about the ranking. I just love the activity and doing cool things. I got the basic hip bump, roll mount reversal on a pretty good blue belt today. I don't think that has worked on him in years. He was quit surprised. That was my win for the day.
I just got my Black Belt. I came back to this video after the adrenaline and exhaustion of the ceremony. I needed this. Thanks Stuart. 12/18/2023 Gracie HumĂĄita Black Belt.â€
Thank you
started at 17 now 31 years old and im still thanking my younger self for starting and sticking with it.
You must be very skilled
Iâm 29 I started at 28 hopefully 38 year old me is a black belt and my son will be proud of me đ
Started 7 months ago at 59 and chubby. One of my grandsons was spending the summer with us and had been bullied at school, so I took him and we went together for a couple months until he went home. Iâm addicted and still going. I am the oldest guy at this Gracie school. I love all my buddies there and I go 3-4 days a week. I am a nail amongst many hammers, but someday ! đ
My grandson went home and a different bully started in on him. Heâs 11 and quiet and took all he could take and finally took the kid to the ground, got in side control, and held him there until teachers arrivedâŠ.bully was crying when teachers arrived. Jake just did exactly as he had been instructed. He hopes someday to be a red belt like Relson, who he got to meet at our school. Life changing !
Made me tear up a bit. Bullying is awful!
I love that, I am a nail amongst many hammers. hahahaha
That's what's great about it. Kids can stop a bully without hurting the bully back.
The fact it helped him stand up for himself is a great change.
I struggle with anxiety a lot and havenât made it to class past few weeks Iâll be going tonight thank you for the video
Hope you're still going brotha. I'm new to BJJ and the whole community is so welcoming and there isn't any judgement. Best community I've ever had the pleasure of being part of.
Stop thinking about it so much and just go bro
The same thing has been happening to me my whole jujitsu career. I started when I was 5, I went every day for a long time. until my father decided to let me take a break so I wouldn't get burnt out. It's been a long while since then but the break was probably around 2 weeks. Before I took the break I was one of the best in my gym for my age group, despite that, I still remember feeling constant anxiety and sorrow. Of course, there were still great times and it was a great period in my life. But after this break, I was even more anxious and scared when coming back and that eventually led to more breaks, longer breaks, and more anxiety and more stress. This caused me to become even more insecure about my abilities and become even more scared of embarrassment. Eventually, I stopped coming for a few months 'and when I came back I followed one of the best coaches in my gym to his new gym. I started to get back in the flow of things but I still had a crippling feeling of nervousness. I felt this weird feeling of disconnection when it came to socializing with others at my gym. At this new gym after a while, I would start to not come as frequently because I was so nervous about going. While at that gym, I won first place in a state tournament, but I was still scared and I felt disconnected. One day I sprained my wrist so I took another break and due to anxiety and stuff like that, this lasted almost 2 years. This March I came back, but due to anxiety and my parents not having as much time as they used to I have only gone 10 days since late March. Today I was supposed to go, the last time I went was a month ago. I can't begin to describe the immense feeling of regret because of this that has just been eating me up for years. I love and love Jiu Jitsu but I just can't bring myself to go especially after losing so much time. Although if I go back and stick with it, I most likely could make something of myself again since I'm still young . It really hurts to think of how much anxiety has controlled my life, but as of right now I'm starting to think I may just be lazy like my parents thought I was for so long when I didn't want to go to jiu Jitsu, before they knew I had anxiety. ( i wrote this in a fairly fast manner so i apologies for the poor writing . )
Get at it!!
Check out Eckhart Tolle's book 'The Power of Now' my friend. Wonderful book!
Started at 28, Iâm 32 now and a purple belt, surfed my whole life, this is the next best thing I ever decided to do. You will not regret.
Thatâs good going brother white to purple in 4 years, big respect đ
Hey man, I just started at 27 and want to improve quickly (although i have a busy schedule) how many times did you train per week? thanks and hope you are well
I started 3-4 times, then started doing double days, (noon)-(night). I felt progress when I started understanding concepts, exploring my game on the internet and using things that simply made sence to me. Forget about the belts , rather be a badass white belt then a shitty blue belt đđđ
@@miertastrain Fair play thats alot of training, Ill probably only be able to do 2-3 times per week I think so will have to make reasonable, steady progress. thanks!
I'm 41 and starting my 2nd class tomorrow.. I'm all in with this art form. It's self defense, self esteem building and overall sense of an extended family is what's drawn me to the discipline. I wish I started my journey sooner but that's what's so great about it.. as long as you are physically able to do it, you can do it past your 40's and 50's, other sports your career is ending in your late 30's.. I'm hooked on JJ.. Can't stop watching CZcams videos like Jocko and Echo, Royce Gracie, Dean Lister, and all the other great personalities in the sport
Congratulations and welcome to our club, Andrew. I wish you good health and learning all the knowledge you're able to! I hope you check in throughout your journey and never quit. I wish you nothing but a wonderful ride in this sport we all love. You're never too old, and we appreciate you joining us. #OSS

@@johnhernandez4734 thanks for the warm welcome. I appreciate you guys letting me into this extended family. I'm now a full month in on my BJJ career. I will be competing in my 1st grappling tournament on April 1st! Super excited and can't wait to get into the mats! Thanks again for the warm welcome
@andrewgrignon826 keep us posted on your results! Good luck my friend!
Iâm 39 just started on Monday. Been thinking about it the last 48 hours, I loved it. My body is wrecked though haha. Should be good to make it in tomorrow though.
JJ is addictive because it speaks to that natural instinct to grapple, and you can only get better at it but you'll never be *the best* - theres always new things to learn from EVERYONE.
I started when I was 14, stopped at 23 and started again at 27. Love it.
Just started training BJJ at 53, been retired 5 years from law enforcement. I absolutely love it, the philosophy of it!! Humbling & inspiring!!đŠđŻ
Hey welcome to the club man! Enjoy! Keep moving, keep growing, keep learning. I'll see you at work.
Iâm 48 and retired myself last year. Iâm new to consistent Jiujitsu training and loving it. I was nervous as I have many herniated disks but like the saying goes the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the next best time is today. Everyone dies, but not everyone lives. Get after it bro!
@@Discipline_equals_freedom stay frosty my brother đŠđȘđŒ
I have been in LE for only 3 years. Last summer I got a new assignment and really fell off the wagon, wasn't exercising. I strained my back about 2 months ago... don't know how. It wore off after about 6 weeks. Once it healed up I started working out again.. was going good for two weeks, I was pain free besides normal muscle soreness. I decided to start BJJ as well, and on my first class less than a week ago, I strained the same muscles in my back. Didn't know it until the next morning. Can barely sit down for a minute, can barely breathe when I'm standing up or doing certain movements. It is worse than before. Ibuprofen won't touch the pain. It's really disheartening. I watch these videos and I want so badly to train. I was as humbled as I was hooked after the first session. I'm honestly afraid to show my face at my bjj gym because it's been 5 days since my first class and I haven't shown my face. I am probably gonna go this weekend just to watch and explain to my coaches why I haven't come, and why I am not training, just to show I am very much still dedicated. I'm basically just venting my personal struggle here. I know my back can heal but it took so long after the first strain, I don't want to wait months to continue. At the same time, I'm afraid of being in an endless cycle. I don't know whether to try to overcome the pain, or if I need to wait till I'm pain free for a really long time to continue.
Im seriously interested in joining at 51. not too late?
After about 14 years skateboarding, I felt stuck in the context of progressing in that sport. I found Jiu Jitsu at that time which took the front seat in my life (athletically) for the proceeding 7ish years. About 6 months after I got my purple belt, I decided to take a step back and refocus on skateboarding. Since then, I havenât been back to Jiu Jitsu⊠Not because I donât love Jiu Jitsu, but because the principles within Jiu Jitsu helped me rethink my entire approach to skateboarding (in addition to providing me a new skill set for falling (amongst several other things)).
Thereâs not a day that goes by that I donât think about Jiu Jitsu, but ultimately, Iâm married to the game of skateboarding. Alongside skateboarding, Jiu Jitsu is the greatest sport in the world. And in many ways, it was THE thing that ultimately saved my marriage with skateboardingâŠlol

Iâm 30 and thinking about it. Is it a good way to get in shape?
@@phillbernal I worry about very little including my fitness. Lifting, cardio, whole body, Jiu-Jitsu takes care of a lot of that. I lost a little body fat and put on a little bit of lean muscle. My girlfriends have noticed
hey man how often do you train per week for that progress? cheers
@@ofin9335 since becoming a truck driver I didn't roll for almost eight months because if how much I was working. but I started back up this week. Honestly if you can go even twice a week you'll learn a lot and gain a ton of confidence and see results. Ideally four or even five times a week is excellent, and once a week is better than not at all. It's so good for me that if my work gets in the way I'll change careers before sacrificing martial arts. It's made that big of an impact on who I am
Itâs 30 minutes before class starts and Iâm debating on taking the night off because the last week Iâve felt like Iâve been going backwards. Thank you for this. Putting the Gi on now and headed in to get some work in.......
Every single person experiences the feeling you're going back or not progressing, you are my brother, everything is a learning curve and you're improving, everyone has off days everyone has days when they're more tired than usual, I've experienced those and so has everyone and the best feeling is when you finish that session being like that you know, you'll always be able to keep going

Jujitsu gave me the confidence to live life. I was always afraid of everything and everyone, until I won my first đ„ in comp
Iâve been rolling for two months now, 4 times a week. And I was thinking to myself why is this thing so addictive. After some thought, I think Iâm captivated by the idea that an attack, can get reversed and that gets reversed and so on and so on and the infinite roll concept where two people, equally matched, could go on forever without a tap is the thing that captivated me. Then, you realise when youâre on the mat getting tapped, that to achieve that infinitesimal level, you need to work harder to up your game. Itâs like a life quest đđŒđđŒđđŒ
Iâm 112 and started 3 days ago. Feelin pretty confident now
Iâd be willing to bet that 50% of purple belts and down are doing BJJ because of hearing Joe talk about it non-stop. For the people thinking about starting and are scared, donât be. My ego kept me from walking through the door of a gym for 10 years before I started, and after my first week, I regretted 10 years of my ego keeping me from it. It is one of the absolute loves of my life, and I might be a white belt for life, but I donât care. Iâll keep training 4+ times per week until I die.
Yet another masterpiece....

Iâm heading to my first class today. Thank you for the video. It is time to start the journey.
Glad you liked it bro
How'd the class go??
It was great! I have a great sensei and the people were super helpful. It is humbling and encouraging
My 1st interest with BJJ was while watching Lethal Weapon 1 backnin 1987 with Mel Gibson locked Busey in a leg triangle choke. I was impressed with the technique. Now I'm turning 50 and my daughter is 11, we will start next week.
Hey, just saw your post. Wondering if you started training? I'm a black belt instructor, jiu-jitsu changed my life. Hope it has done wonders for you. If you haven't gone, this is the universe telling you now is the time
Man I love jiu jitsu!! I ALWAYS kick myself when I miss a training day.
I am 50. I am BACK on the mat after a 20 year hiatus. So thankful. So humble. So empowering!!
Respect to you for getting back in man.

Same mate, 25 and went to my very first BJJ lesson on monday, was diffcult but I'm gonna stick it out.
That's What's Sup bro definitely Stick it out If you don't mind can you share with me what was difficult about it? How was your Exp personally for your first day I just found a Jiu-jitsu School today in my Area going to check it out tomorrow
@@DEVINOBOY Well im from NZ and found a combat gym where they do kickboxing etc too so rocked up and I found the warm up hard as we were planking all in a line while the person at the end would crawl under everyone. By the end was sweating a lot but then it was onto getting out of a headlock with someone on top of you which was alrite. I have natural strength from going to the gym daily so can kinda outmuscle the white belts but just don't know the technique. First hour was technique then I just watched a bit of the 2nd half free rolling n yea I enjoyed it
Keep turning up men. For the first 6 months youâll question every lesson if youâre getting better. Youâll get beat 10,000 times.
But just you wait until you last a 5 minute round without getting tapped.
Just you wait until you get your first win.
BJJ is a wonderful brotherhood, full of love, void of ego
Devin how has it been for you?? Have you started? Any questions??
I like when jocko says "no one could stop you it was awesome"

The pencil necks see the muscle, strain and exposition of just practice...and see that as a threat. They don't see the bond of brotherhood of physical contact. My instructor maybe old, had his 7th degree in judo always told us, "There's always someone more hungry". (Glenn Negen) Miss him like a father and best friend.

Nice sound bites from Rogan and Willink here about BJJ, but for me personally, it was Rogan interviewing Guy Ritchie and talking about BJJ that got me to try it out in the end. They way they talked about it made it sound very appealing to me :)

In order to progress and to get better at something, it always comes down to having the right understanding and the right attitude. It is good to remember the old proverb "A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool". So always be curious and open yourself to the endless possibilities.
