    john henry bonham was a spontaneous powerful diverse drummer listen to many led zeppelin bootlegs and you can see how outstanding he was and why led zeppelin couldn.t continue without him

      Agreed. I was going to comment "Who cares what other drummers think?" I would be interested in Neil Peart's opinion though. I'm sure John was a hugh influence.

      @@wassupnomesayin Ginger Baker from Cream is another. I love a lot of other bands but no one compares to John Bonham as a drummer.

      @@leslieperkins2722Ginger Baker needs to put others down, to boost his own ego, that alone makes Bonham a million times better. Bonham didn’t need to put others down, just like Page didn’t either. If you need to toot your own horn, you have nothing to toot about.

    Please gimme a break, couldn’t swing? Just listen to the raw drum track on Whole Lotta Love. Sounds like a freight train at a steady 65 MPH, amazing groove. Or no quarter, great groove. Bonzo over baker any day!💥

      Well, you can’t dance to Zeppelin. And in that respect he doesn’t swing. Unlike his hero Krupa. For that matter for rock including the Roll, it’s Charlie Watts, triplets be damned. BTW I saw the Stones up close in ‘66 and everyone was shaking their ass. I saw Zep up close 3 years later and everyone was banging their heads. Nothing wrong with that, in fact Z was phenomenal, but they didn’t swing.

    Ginger Baker was a very good drummer but he was an arrogant Fu**, he was more technical than John Bonham, but ginger Baker couldn’t replace John Bonham in Led zeppelin, for me John Bonham was the best.

    Played the drums for years. Massive fan of Bonham, Peart, Moon, Copeland, Cobham, Gadd, and dozens of others. To be honest, Baker was never on my radar - nor on the radar of other drummers I know.

    "LOL" at Ginger Baker. Today, you can buy a Ludwig 'John Bonham" Vistalite kit and a Paiste "John Bonham" cymbal pack. Who makes one for Baker? Who would want one? Dude is all kinds of envious.

      You do know that Ginger Baker’s roots are in Jazz and not rock, despite being a member of Cream. So comparing rock drummers to Jazz drummers is pointless. The techniques are different. Jack Bruce always stated that Cream was essentially a Jazz band, Most of these iconic drummers of the time will cite Buddy Rich as the best drummer.

    On the how the west was won compilation which is amazing theres a two minute thing and its John Henry doing a soundcheck and he sits down, no warmup and just does this 30 second long blitz not a solo but just this unbelievable assault on the drums, then gets up and walks off like its nothing. Lots of unbelievable drummers but seriously. Miss that dude.

      @@johnhoran9840 I love Rush but Neil was kinda one dimensional. Actually 58 bud. Seen Rush a few times. Neil really couldnt ad lib and definitely had problem doing anything jazz related. Even Neil said that. He was a compositional drummer.

      @@skyemoz6559 I used Neil as one example, my favorite drummer is actually Bill Bruford. I don't dislike Zeppelin, but there are better heavy rock drummers from the classic era.

    Baker brilliantly but hates everyone. Richard’s jealous that zeppelin soared past them. Never got the Stones although they are great anyone listen to a Richard’s solo nothing special

    Ginger took himself and drumming way too serious. John showed the world that having fun playing drums is the most important aspect of playing. I wish this had never has happened. Very few drummers bring me to tears and John is one of them, Gavin Harrison being the second.

    If I had to pick one album to have on a desert island, I’d take “Houses of the Holy” by Led Zeppelin.

    There is & will always be, one Bonzo. There was no Zeppelin, after Johns passing. Other pretentious drummers can say what they want, it's just opinion. They're great, in their own right. But, when you start comparing styles & unique individuality , we are all different. The combination of funky solid groove beats & powerful, memorable fills, there is only one. John Henry Bonham will always be my favorite drummer. Just one mans opinion.

    Bill Ward of Black Sabbath spoke very highly of John. Bill called John a true musician and referred to himself as more of a 'reactionary drummer'. I think Bill felt that John was better than him but it never stopped Ward from achieving greatness. In much the same way that Bill was Black Sabbath, John was Led Zeppelin and their music must be taken in that context.🎼🥁🎹

    To me,,Bonham isn't the best rock drummer in the world,however he's definitely in my top five.His use of only one bass drum to do the fills he does,that normally require two bass drums or one bass drum with a double pedal,is likely one of his most notable assets.

    Ginger is spot on. Bonham was a plenty good rockin tonight pub drummer who got lucky when he landed the Zep gig, without them he would have worked Butlins/cruise ships. It’s like me saying McCartney was a great bass player, popular yes, but great? mmmmm

      @@CarloTurner-vl7rl if I was jimmy page I would have chosen Bonham as drummer because he was perfect for that band, that sound, my point is that he was limited technically. Do you think he spent a lot of time on rudiments, on theory? I dont. If he wasn’t in Zeppelin you would never have heard of him purely because of his drumming.

    was Ginger Baker serious?? he couldn't have been. I've watched both of them many times and I have never ever seen Ginger Baker perform like Bonzo! not even close and Ginger was great! but Bonzo was on another planet and he wouldn't have cared what anyone said about him but I truly believe Ginger was jealous of Bonzo. I'm not saying Bonzo is the greatest drummer of all time that's up to you to decide for yourself but he was one of them that's for sure

    Bonham wasn't a guy to mess with. Journalists who were allowed backstage at Zeppelin concerts were told not to talk to the band members unless the band members talk first. They were also told, for their own personal safety, to never make eye contact with John Bonham

    I like Ginger Baker but C'mon, his evaluation of other drummers are not to be taken seriously. Bonham had the primal rhythm that you can't teach. Keith Moon was as raw and intuitive as they come. But the winner is John "BONZO" Bonham hands down.

    Ginger has always been a pompous guy. John could rock with the best of them. Yes he was heavy handed but that’s what the music called for. His shuffles were great and we all know shuffles are one of the hardest techniques to master on the drums.

    The overwhelming amount of drummers you talk to will say Bonham was a huge influence on their playing or desire to play. far less will say Ginger. Facts.

      They were both huge influences on me and both shinned in different ways. Ginger was an angry nutter though and I’ve never understood his criticism of Bonham. Keith Richard’s on the other hand is just a jealous and unremarkable musician in my opinion.
