Waking up in the morning to find out your vehicle has a flat tire is never the way you want to start your day. But ending your day on a mountain pass watching a beautiful sunset is some great redemption.
Back in December 2021 Angie hiked this loop around Weavers Needle in the Superstition Mountains. We started by camping right outside the Peralta Trailhead just east of the Phoenix Metro where we had to delay our hike to change a flat tire out. But after changing the tire we were still eager to do our overnight hike in the Superstition Wilderness and we are glad we did, it ended up being one of the most scenic hikes we have ever done and despite the trail being overgrown in several places, scratching our legs and making navigation difficult and a few spots with steep elevation gain we had a really good time on this hike. We even were lucky enough to find a campsite with an amazing view where we enjoyed both a truly stunning sunset and sunrise.
While we call this the Weavers Needle Loop (the name of it on AllTrails), this route is actually a combination of four trails. We started on the Bluff Springs Trail before getting on the Terrapin Trail where we camped on top of Terrapin Pass. The next day we hiked the last couple miles of the Terrapin Trail until we reached a short segment on the Dutchman Trail before finishing the last six miles on the Fremont trail where we went up and over Fremont Saddle. This loop starts at the Peralta Trailhead, so that's a lot of names to remember; Weavers Needle Loop sticks in the memory a lot better.
We highly recommend this hike for anyone that has the experience to handle a somewhat difficult overnight hike. The views are stunning and until the last couple miles where a lot of day hikers hike to the top of Fremont Saddle we saw hardly anyone out there in the wilderness leaving us to a great since of solitude. Just make sure you bring plenty of water because it is DRY out there! Also as mentioned in the video long pants were nice because you will surly be poked by a variety of thorny plants. Having GPS was very helpful and saved us a lot of stress as well in the few spots were it became difficult to find the trail with our vision alone.

Same here, it's hard to believe you're right outside one of the nations largest metros when wandering around out there!

@@WanderingBlock totally awesome, we’re thinking tarantulas, coyotes, scorpions, lizards, bobcats, and even cougar when we see these types of desert hikes.

This is a difficult range to hike, particularly Mid September when i always come to the Southwest from the UK. The kids are back in school, so quieter. I took a look around the Goldfield Ghost town. This place is never mentioned and i find it fascinating before only a short hike... too hot to venture far.

For being right outside of one of the country's largest metros it really does feel like a bit of an underrated gem.

Don’t start your video with you changing your freaking tire
