This has been an eye opener. I knew Michael Rose and Junior Reid was part of the group, but I didn't know Don Carlos was also there. So much talent in one group. Wow. I'm telling you, there has to be a film about this group, the runtime will be about 3 1/2 hours!
they were all part of the group but each one in different times. Michael R., Junior Reid and Don Carlos, they never performed together as Black Uhuru.

Wow x wow. So enlightening to hear about this band and history. I had no idea Junior Reed and Don Carlos was apart of B.U and also Michael Rose to be honest. I have loved dearly Shine eye Gal and got loads of joy from it. My mother had one album of them. They seem as big as the wailers nearly who conquered the world who also had there issues. whether male Ego was the cause of Black Uhuru's destruction, is anyone's guess. However, I can't help but wonder why were they signed to one of the biggest labels on the planet, but didn't receive royalties for six years. Also, why are there so many group split ups and in fighting where ever Chris Blackwells name is mentioned ?

I always wondered what had happened so thank you for this video. Although MR wrote great songs with Black Uhuru, he never emulated that quality as a solo artist.
Uhuru 3.0 was the greatest line up of any reggae group ever. Still number one after 4 decades have passed.
Saw Black Uhuru on the Iron Storm tour 91-92. Charleston SC. Don Carlos, Duckie Simpson, Garth Dennis. I was 18, been hooked on reggae music since that day! Later around 2001 saw Michael Rose solo performance in Charleston SC, he paid tribute to Puma Jones, who was born and raised in South Carolina. Great show! Black Uhuru, like many bands goes through change but still keeps trodden on! Bless and blaze! ❤️💛💚
The 1983 Rockpalast concert in Germany blew me away. Mikal Rose wanted the crowd to sing after him the word "Red". The crowd probably didn't understand english/ patwah at the time and responded with "Yeho". That was a bit embarassing but germans catched up in the meantime✌️😁
If he was chanting "Red," chances are it was 1981, which was a legendary show.

Very sad story indeed. After all the wonderful vibes. My intro to BH was Love Crisis, a great album. Duckie ought to have been better respected by M. Rose. Rose didn't do right at all. RIP Puma Jones. Duckie, keep on trucking. Thx RAS for another great story!

Changing members is part of life and not tragic but the tragedy of this story was not mentioned in the video. Puma was diagnosed with cancer and had to remove herself from the group and died at such a young age. Great video 👍

Thank you @Reggae Appreciation... Although I'm familiar with the band's split, you've provided some details i never knew about... I'm not surprised at Michael Rose's ego trip and even suspected it.😄😄. I learned of Rose's exit in 86 after i bought the Brutal cassette ( Which was actually titled Great Train Robbery). The lead voc raised my eyebrows....It sounded like Micheal Rose yet oddly different..I then later learned an unknowned new lead singer Junior Reid had replacef Rose...Being a Massive Uhuru fan,, what a Shock, that was..!!!!😯😯

Black Uhuru is Duckie Simpson ....thats the only ego . He taught all the singers the style but a hard , mean man. Sly and Robbie couldn't deal with him either

It's just another example of the generation gap, the difference in age between a 19 year old and a bunch of mid twenty somethings is vast. He was bound to rebel eventually, especially as a home loving Cancerian who constantly needs reassurance. Drabbit Crabbit!♋ 🦀..... "Better to take pleasure in a rose than to put it's root under a microscope" quoth Oscar Wilde. As for Robbie the Virgo - who probably had an overwhelming compulsion to put himself and everyone around him down - must have let his temper get the better of him. Like his namesake Williams, it was a blatant expression of Take That.... And Shakespeare had him barred for (What Is) life!

It seems like the Don Carlos second era of black uhuru was pretty successful as well, I'd love to hear about how that ended? I saw black uhuru twice in the 90s the second time there was no duckie Simpson on stage..
Yep the second Don Carlos era was great as well. Those shows without Duckie is what ended that party. We did a video on the feud between Duckie and former members a while back. You can scroll down our video timeline to find it.
